OBSERVATIONS & FINDINGS

In the summer this year, we had our internship program. This internship
program is a part of the university’s goal to provide quality education to its
student. This Internship program is a vital part in order to develop the student’s
potential and preparedness to deal of what they would encounter once they are in
the field practicing the knowledge they attain in our years inside the border of the
classroom. This would strengthen the theories we have learned through actual
organizational practices, systems knowledge and decision makings, in which
would be beneficial for them once we have graduated and practice our profession.

I have my internship program in the engineering department of the Franklin Baker

Phils. In there I have learned of many types of machinery that comprises that
made the plant running.

Before we were engage inside the plant we first had undergone orientation and
seminar about the safe practices to do once inside the plant also since the plant is
a food producing company we were oriented of the good manufacturing practices
which highlighted food safety . I learned that once inside the plant experience in
accidents is not a good teacher and we must not avoid it at all cost. I also learned
of types of accident causes, like physical chemical psychological and a like.

Once we were inside the plant we were oriented and toured around and was
introduced with the different heads of the department and the machineries that
they were using inside the plant. We were explained and thought of the different
operations and how each section operates.

After how many days and familiarity with the plant we were asked to conduct a
FMECA or also know as Failure Mode and Effect Critical Analysis. This is a
research study that aims to locate and find out how and where the machine would
fail . this is study that woul determine the common failure the machine would
encounter in its lifetime . through this study the plant could mitigate and prepare
for the possible failure and avoid it . The study was conducted by physical
inspection of the machineries inside the plant, studying the maintenace report ,
and using the internet. After the study we have reported it to the head of the
departrment. I also learned from the head about the efficiency curve of the
machineries of the plant I have learned from him that if we must be an engineer
inside the plant we need to be proactive rather thn be reactive . meaning we must
be prepared of the possible happening and take actions before hand rather than
act afterwards .

All and all my experience inside the plant was fruitful and it did help me realize
what we would face once we are in field , however despite the positive outcome
of this program, it still not a perfect process , I would like to recommend a
coordinated schedule of things that both the university and the establishment
agreed upon to teach the students .
