PHD – Principles of Human Design

Shaping cities for the success of all people:

Synergine embodies the inspiration, ideation and implementation of city transformation and the
prosperity of people. Shaping cities is no longer a based on principles that simply maintain their focus on
financials and intensification. We need to consider the wider societal impacts and the effects of urban
environments on people’s health and wellbeing and analyse these in a way that empowers positive
change moving forward.

This is the value of Synergine, the holistic consideration of the 5x bottom line approach;

 Economic
 Environmental
 Social
 Cultural
 Spiritual

These considerations are in balance and considered as a holistic framework by which all aspects of our
work is aligned. This is seen in the reports that our clients receive and the projects/legacies that we
implement through our respective teams whether it be at a strategic level or during the design and
delivery phase. (This is a structure that requires an emotive response and on a personal level for each
team member).

Synergines process for achieving human centric design:

To be used to offer a better internal and external measure, for pitching, response process and delivery
of reports we ask ourselves:

- What opportunity can Synergine provide in order to address our clients’ needs and/or values?
- What can we sell to clients that will benefit their organisation and have positive impact on the
economy and people?
- Is this process sustainable and does it cultivate growth in both the short and long-term?
- What genuine value can we add to projects and what tangible change will our impact have?

This approach is broader than development, it is a holistic device for all projects and a process that is
followed by employees to ensure client and consumer centric design.
Synergine follows a systematic process for creating tangible change:

1. Become informed (research, discuss with key stakeholders and local iwi/people- gain
perspective and understand context)
2. International and local best practice to inform decision process (in context)
3. Workshopping (internally)
4. Workshopping (externally – international academic institutions, client, industry leaders)
5. Use innovative data gathering and trend analysis (CitiIQ), algorithms etc to gain evidence base
6. Run simulations and scenario planning to test theories and/or strategies.
7. Create core concepts and provide transformational projects (ideate)
8. Design, write and create documentation (Design)
9. Review from executive team
10. Client - in hand
11. Changes if necessary

This guides the Synergine process in both a theological and secular application. This enables client
interaction and benefit with a premeditated idea of cost, time, and product. Our clients are aware that
they will receive a balanced product that is backed by a strategic and logical process, and successful
delivery.

A human centric response

This process stems from an understanding of human behaviour. Through research, the Synergine team
immerses within the situations that our strategy and designs will be implemented so as to observe the
thoughts, actions, and experiences of people within and about them. This builds empathy – a deep
understanding of how and why people behave as they do and the needs of communities, cities and
specifically people in the relative context of which we are working. This shapes our work, making sure
that we are working alongside clients to both optimise and develop their product or service.

From this, Synergine generates solutions, in combination with best practice, to select projects that have
the most value add and are human centric across social, economic, cultural, economic (and spiritual)
outcomes. Through simulation, data analytics, best practice, evaluation, and iteration, solutions are then
evolved and produced in a tangible, effective manner.

Synergine works toward shaping cities of the future whereby the relative success of cities is dependent
upon a holistic consideration of both human and infrastructure considerations.
CitiIQ insight -> informed Decision Making -> transformational concepts -> implementation-> tangible
change and social betterment

This then informs CitiIQ insight again and builds credibility and added accuracy of evidence based service
offering.
