Entrance Length Calculation

According to the litearture, the entrance length can be calculated as follows:

𝐿ℎ𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑏𝑢𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑡
= 1.359 ∙ (𝑅𝑒)1/4
𝐷

𝐿 = 𝐸𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝐿𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑡ℎ

𝐷 = 𝑃𝑖𝑝𝑒 𝐷𝑖𝑎𝑚𝑒𝑡𝑒𝑟

𝑅𝑒 = 𝑅𝑒𝑦𝑛𝑜𝑙𝑑𝑠 𝑁𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟

Jet Reynolds Number (d = 0.01 m)

4 ∙ 𝑞𝑚 Re𝒅 ∙ π ∙ d ∙ μ ∙ n
Re𝒅 = → q𝒎 =
π∙d∙μ∙n 4

For the at most case, the Re number is taken as 50,000. To ensure for the minimum cases.

50,000 ∙ 𝜋 ∙ 0.01 𝑚 ∙ 1.846 ∙ 10−5 (𝑘𝑔 ∙ 𝑚)/𝑠 ∙ 36

q𝑚 = ≈ 0.26097 𝑘𝑔/𝑠
4
Reynolds number in the pipe (d=0.08 m)
4 ∙ 𝑞𝑚 4 ∙ 0.26097 𝑘𝑔/𝑠
𝑅𝑒𝐷 = = ≅ 225,000
𝜋∙𝐷∙𝜇 𝜋 ∙ 0.08 𝑚 ∙ 1.846 ∙ 10−5 (𝑘𝑔 ∙ 𝑚)/𝑠
Entrance Length

𝐿ℎ𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑏𝑢𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑡 1
= 1.359 ∙ (𝑅𝑒)4
𝐷

1
𝐿ℎ𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑏𝑢𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑡 = 1.359 ∙ (225,000)4 ∙ 80 𝑚𝑚 ≅ 2367.85 𝑚𝑚 ≅ 2.368 𝑚

According to the literature, the exit length should be shorter than the entrance length. Therefore,
foreseen length for the exit is approximately ≈ 1 𝑚
