SWD the ability to give examples of earth's biodiversity and be able to summarize the characteristics that all
living things share.

Complete study guide pages 1.1 Chapter 1

*Anticipatory Set:
What is biology? What is diversity? Support and reinforce student ideas about these terms. Talk about
biodiversity in the room. Biodiversity will be the word of the day…

*Input/Instruction
Power Notes for sections 1.1 and 1.2

*Modeling:
Using the earth ball for reference and examples again talk about biodiversity in the classroom….bugs in hair,
insects in the walls…different types of Homo sapiens…etc…use student ideas if any are given

*Check for Understanding


Go around the room and ask for examples of diversity around students home

*Guided Practice

*Independent Practice
