Announcing a Student Art Contest for Children in

Kindergarten through Eighth Grade

Theme
“Get Global Art Contest”
Eligibility
 Any child in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade

Originality
All work must be created by the student. The entry must be conceptualized, developed, and
completed by the student. If a parent or teacher has any doubt about the originality of the piece, it
should not be submitted.

Guidelines for Artwork


 Artwork can be two- or three-dimensional and must be completely dried or fixed.
 Maximum entry size is 24 inches by 36 inches, including matting.
 Each student may submit one piece of artwork, in any of the following media:

 Drawing
Colored or graphite pencil, ink, pastel, crayon, chalk, marker, or charcoal. Pastels and
charcoal must be protected with a fixative spray.
 Painting
Acrylic, watercolor, oil, other plastic paints.
 Printmaking
Block print, monoprint, collagraph, serigraph, lithograph, + other forms.
 Mixed Media
Entries in which two or more 2-D media are combined in a single two dimensional entry;
includes collage.* Materials may extend up to one inch from the surface.
*Collage: No more than 20% of collage material may be from newspapers, magazines,
books, or other material pre-printed with text or designs (such as scrapbook paper).
 3D Media
 Ceramics, sculpture – ceramics, metal, found objects, sculpture, natural materials
 Original Photography
 Must be a student’s own work taken within the last year. It may be black and white or
color prints.
 Digital Media: Must be own work created within the last year, not to exceed 5
minutes. Judging will be based on originality, creativity, visual and audio appeal, and
content.
Please note:
 Original photographs or student-directed photographs may be used by students in the
development of the entry, provided the original photograph is attached to the back of the
entry. Photographs not originated by the student may not be used as source material for
artwork submissions. Copying the photograph exactly in any media is prohibited.
 Images traced with the use of a projector or other mechanical means are prohibited.
 Works on paper should be matted to protect the artwork. Works on stretched canvas or
canvas board do not need to be matted. Please, no framed artwork.

Preparing Artwork for Entry

Divisions
The artwork submitted to the Student Art Contest is grouped and judged in the following
divisions: Division I: Grades K-3, Division II: Grades 4-8

Entry Fee
There is no entry fee for the Student Art Contest.

Forms

Entry Forms must be submitted for every piece of artwork that will be submitted for final
judging. Please note that students’ artwork will first be submitted to the school art teacher for
pre-judging, and only the resulting selections are delivered for final judging.

 Public Schools:
Each public school building may submit a maximum of 10 entries.

 Private Schools and Home School Students:


Each home school teacher and private school may submit up to 10 entries; forms should be
submitted for all 10 entries.

All entrants must accurately complete the contest entry forms and submit with the artwork. For
each entry, please submit:

 2 copies of the completed Entry Form – signed by student, parent/guardian, and teacher
- One copy of the Entry Form should be affixed to the back of the artwork.
- The second copy should be submitted to the contest representative, _______, at the
time of artwork submission.
Judging Criteria:
The entries will be judged according to the following criteria. Each criterion is weighted
equally.
1. Creativity and Originality
There is evidence of imagination, creativity, and individuality. The result is distinctive and the
concept presented in a unique way that is imaginative and inventive.

2. Technique
The student chooses and utilizes media and tools competently to enhance the appearance of the
work.

3. Organization
The use of elements and the principles of art are used effectively and selectively to enhance the
overall appearance of the work.

4. Clarity of Theme
The work combines technique, expression, and organization through artistic and critical
judgment to achieve an effective interpretation of the theme.

5. Presentation
The presentation is in accordance with the style of the art piece and the theme of the competition.

Note: Jurors have the right to exclude any work from consideration in the contest. The decision
of the jurors is final as relating to all contest matters.

Final Adjudication
The jurors will judge all finalists based on the criteria listed under Judging Criteria. The final
selections will be made solely on the consensus of the panel of jurors.
