Rationale: This app serves as a tool to support and inspire student writing. It is a writing prompt
app that helps students come up with ideas of topics to write about. By giving students 125
images and 375 different writing topics to choose from, it assists students to start the writing
process, which is often the most difficult part. Introducing a topic is part of the Ontario
curriculum and meets NYS Common Core Learning Standards.

locate information and other resources for their intellectual or creative pursuits.
Rationale: This app was designed for students with disabilities that have problems writing. It
uses voice recognition technology that allows students to translate their speech to text. This is
extremely important to allow students, who would otherwise have difficulty, partake in the
writing process. By being able to dictate into the app and having the app create text, students are
able to fulfill the writing requirements that are part of the Ontario curriculum and meets NYS
Common Core Learning Standards.

Empowered Learner 1.d. Students understand the fundamental concepts of technology
operations, demonstrate the ability to choose, use and troubleshoot current
technologies and are able to transfer their knowledge to explore emerging technologies.
Rationale: This app is designed to teach kids basic weather elements. It was actually designed
by a 6-year-old boy and his father, who is a meteorologist. The app consists of various activities
that allows kids to change the weather conditions to determine how they should dress. It also
allows kids to calculate Fahrenheit and Celsius. There is a charting feature that allows a child to
choose the day of the week and describe the weather and refer to it later. This is all part of both
the Ontario curriculum and the NYS Common Core Learning Standards.

Knowledge Constructor 3.c. Students curate information from digital resources using a
variety of tools and methods to create collections of artifacts that demonstrate
meaningful connections or conclusions.
Rationale: This colourful app is filled with games that involve addition and subtraction at a first-
grade level. It enables kids to learn how to add quickly as many of the games are in a “race”
format. The gist of the game is that a mean bunnisher has stolen all of the carrots and vehicles
from the Wonder Village and a little bunny needs your help to get them back on a race track.
