Job Description

Overview / Responsibilties

Wood is recruiting for a Field Engineering & Interface Manager to work on the ITER project based in
the South of France.

► Takes direction from and interacts directly with the CMA Construction Preparation
Manager, and works together with Construction Work Pack Preparation Manager and
Configuration Management Manager

► Support timely approval by IO of CMA deliverables according to Field Engineering,


Interface and Workface Planning functional inputs

► Form strong relationships with the IO client and CMA teams

► Focus on safety, delivery, value for money and value creation activities

FIELD ENGINEERING LIAISON

► Responsible for preparation of the constructability review outputs from CMA to IO (e.g.
supports to IO in constructability review workshops/meetings, Final Design Reviews)
► Liaison/coordination of construction preparation activities with Completions,
Construction and Engineering and other CMA and IO functions as follows
o Supports the contribution of technical tender package reviews
o Supports/interfaces with IO (including engineering) to define EWPs requirements
(e.g. expected document types, EWP content, format, structure, scope coverage) and
suitability for SmartPlant suite
o Addresses significant/recurrent issues escalated from the Construction teams and
Completions for continuous improvement in construction preparation activities
o Contribution to the Construction Readiness Reviews including assessment of
EWPs/CWPs/IWPs and Interfaces

► As-constructed dossier assessment:


o Support Quality, Supervision and Configuration Control teams in the review of as-
constructed document dossiers (content, NCRs/DRs/FCRs, formatting)
o Address construction feedback from implementing CWP's/IWP’s and support
continuous improvement in Construction Preparations (EWPs – IO, CWPs- CMA,
IWPs-Contractor)
► Overall management of the Requests for Information (RFI's) process and
capture/escalate lessons learnt.
► Handling other site queries as required (e.g. analysis/summary of significant quality
issues – DRs/NCRs)

► CMA point of contact for the SmartPlant suite:

o Gathers CMA and contractors’ main recommendations and escalate to the IO for
deployment of new modules and maintenance of existing ones
o Supports (as required and in a certain extent) solving day to day issues raised by
CMA and Contractors users and/or routes to the right points of contact.

INTERFACE MANAGEMENT

► Form strong relationships with the CMA Planning Team, Construction Team, H&S
Team, Coordination teams with respect to the planning of the interfaces
► Contribute (on request) to the update of the significant interfaces and scope allocation
issues during the construction tender process
► As required, contribute to the Construction Preparation activities regarding the planning
from the interface point of view of the work and logistic in the ITER Site
o Provide recommendations during constructability reviews and Final Design
Reviews for optimizing interfaces
o Supports the review of the EWP content and organize inputs for CWP from an
interface perspective, including technical and contractual interfaces and scope
boundaries, and schedule interfaces to support the planning function and CWP
preparation author.
o Organize proposals for construction sequence optimization against interfaces
issues
o Support the review of IWP’s relevant data, including access plans, IWP schedule
from scope/interface perspective; review of IWP physical interfaces and contractor
shared resources including lifting, handling, scaffolding and access.
o Provide inputs during the Construction Readiness Reviews from an interface
perspective
► In liaison with Supervision/Coordination teams, supports the re-configuration of the
interfaces during construction execution:
o Manages the RFIs related to interface issues to address significant coactivity
issues, conflicting requirements

► Organize &/or contribute the interface / integration cell meetings and follow-up of
actions, as required

► Support client development of 4D planning, as required


Skills / Qualifications

Fluent in English, with additional French preferred.


Very organized and structured
Clear ability to lead
Work experience internationally or in multi-cultural environments, with excellent communication and
interpersonal skills, and creative solution and problem-solving skills
Capability to understand and fulfil customer needs (that may be expressed either formally or
informally) in order to obtain full client satisfaction, within a context that is contractually acceptable to
the JV

Technical
Ability to interact (conversant) with multiple disciplines & function representatives (e.g. schedule,
mechanical, QC, piping, EIC) and to provide relevant technical input from his/her area of knowledge
Program and project management including engineering data planning

Experience in managing contractors in a large-scale project environment (in particular to address


interface issues)

Ability to conduct lessons learnt and/or trend analysis from a complex set of data

Ability to analyse complex situation/conflicts and to conduct negotiation with multiple stakeholders
resulting on optimized and consensual solutions

Ability to pre-assess technical queries and collate answer(s) from the relevant parties

Planning and management of project gates/milestones meetings (Design &/or constructability


reviews, readiness reviews, interface meetings)

Ability to interact with IT people for the development and improvement of Software solutions (e.g.
needs expression, testing)

Specific
Conversant with the requirements for nuclear equipment and plants in France (e.g. INB Order, RCC-
MR, ESPN…)

Conversant with the key codes and standards that relates to construction techniques associated to
physical interfaces (e.g. Tolerances - ISO 14638:2015, Welding codes and standards, EIC
connections …)

Conversant with the key HSE regulation and guides that governs interface/co-activity management
(e.g. Decree No. 94-1159 26-12-1994, INRS Guides…)

Understanding of planning principles and familiarity with 4D planning for interface management

Practical experience with the SmartPlant Foundation suite of modules e.g. SmartPlant Owners
Operators (SPO), SmartPlant Systems Completions (SPO SC), SmartPlant Construction (SPC),
SmartPlant Materials (SPMat) or equivalent system
