d) Select the Add Licenses option and record the Serial Numbers listed in the Activated Licenses
table
2. Locate the upgraded Backup Exec entitlements in your Veritas Licensing Portal account
a) Log into your MyVeritas account (https://my.veritas.com) and select the Licensing tab.
b) If you a member of more than one Licensing Portal account, you will be asked to select an account.
Select the account that contains the upgraded Backup Exec Entitlements.
c) Select the Entitlements tab and use the search feature to locate the Entitlements using the Serial
Numbers recorded from the Backup Exec 15 Activated License table.
If the Serial Number starts with an ‘A’, then this number is the Entitlement ID for the Entitlement.
Select the Entitlement ID search option to locate the Entitlement.

If the Serial Number starts with an ‘M’, then this number is the Legacy Symantec™ Corporation
Serial Number for the Entitlement. Select the Legacy Serial Number search option to locate the
Entitlement.
Note: If you are not able to locate the Entitlement for a deployed Backup Exec 15 license, search other Licensing
Portal accounts by using the Switch Account link at the top right of the page to switch to another Licensing Portal
account. If this link is not visible, then your MyVeritas account is only a member of a single Licensing Portal account.

d) Click the Entitlement link in Entitlement ID column (see Figure 4) to get to the Product Information
page for the Entitlement.
Backup Exec 16 should be listed on the Current Version tab. If it isn’t, then check the Service
Expiration date as needs to be greater than or equal to November 7, 2016.

f) Click the Generate button and follow the steps to generate and save the license key to the local
system.

g) Repeat these steps until all Backup Exec 16 license keys required to upgrade the Backup Exec 15
server have been generated.
3. Upgrade the Backup Exec 15 server to Backup Exec 16
a) Click the Backup Exec 16 Download Software button (see Figure 5 above) or by clicking the Files
tab if the current page is the Licenses page (see Figure 6 above) to get to the Files page.
b) Check the boxes next to all the Veritas Backup Exec 16 files and click the Download Selected Files
button. Follow the prompts to download the Backup Exec 16 install image.
c) Follow the steps in the Backup 16 documentation to prepare downloaded install program to be
executed on the Backup Exec 15 server.
d) Start the Backup 16 installer, and then choose Install Products option followed by the Choose
Backup option.

e) Continue to follow prompts through the Licensing Terms and Installation pages. Once the
Installation location has been selected, the Environment Check will start.

f) Wait until the Environment Check completes, then review the results. Address any issues found
and click the Next button.

g) Add the Backup Exec 16 license keys to the Backup Exec 16 server. Click the Next button when
done.
If the server is able to connect to the Internet, license keys may be added to the server by
entering the Entitlement ID in Enter an Entitlement ID box and clicking the Add to List button.
If the server is not able to connect to the Internet, license keys may be imported by clicking the
Import Veritas License File button.

h) Validate that Backup Exec 16 and the correct license keys are installed. Click the Next button when
done.
i) Update the configuration options, click the Next button and follow the remaining prompts to
complete the upgrade.
