Phenomena The HDD installation into a repair slot may fail in a Single mode.

Conditions of Occurrence A. Single mode
B. HDD blockade occurs.
C. HDD is installed in the repair slot.
Cause When a HDD is inserted into a repair slot, the firmware checks HDD type,
SAS or SATA. The HDD insertion fails in case of Single mode because the
firmware recognizes illegal HDD type by firmware bug.

Phenomena Controller blockade may occur when IP Address is changed on ISCSI The

4 CTL Failure occurs at Windows Exchange 2007 Jet stress test

Phenomena When the Windows Exchange 2007 Jet stress test was run, CTL failure
occurred. Host transfer DMA error was over the threshold(CTL-0,DMA-23)

Conditions of Occurrence When all of the following conditions are met, the phenomenon will occur.
1. I/O commands to all port in the CTL are issued by severs
2. Queue full status happens in the disk subsystem Or ABTS or LOGO
commands are issued by servers
Cause When Queue full response, ABTS or LOGO command are executed, An
unjustified operation by SMS I/F controller is executed to the chip. As a
result, I/F controller respond unjustified response to SMS, and
the CTL failures.

5 LRC/LA error occurs

Phenomena Read commands to HDD are rejected when failure occurs such as CRC error,
but LRC error or LA error occurs by cache memory accesses come afterward,
and HDD blockade occurs.

Conditions of Occurrence Conditions of occurrence A. Recovered error occurs on drive I/O B.
Command (read) is rejected due to a failure such as CRC error when the
command use the ones which are used in A from I/O list (1000 in total).
Cause If a failure occurs such CRC error, there are cases when read job fails to
receive SSB information from drive. When this happens, job does task
according to previously stored SSB information. Errors shown below will
occur because read command is incorrectly recognized as normal end if
previously stored SSB information is recovered error (Sense key 0x01).
・ LRC or LA error occurs by cache memory access which comes afterward
because information is partially stored on the cache.

6 Copy process of Shadow Image or Auto Migration freezes
Phenomena This problem causes the following:
1. Copy process of Shadow Image pair freezes if a series of LU ownership
changes occur due to user’s operation from HSNM2 or load balance function
when pair status is Synchronizing or Reverse Synchronizing
2. Copy process of Auto Migration freezes when a series of LU ownership
changes occur due to load balancing function when Auto Migration status is
Copying

Conditions of Occurrence "When all of the following conditions are met, the phenomenon may occur.
1. If Shadow Image problem occurs with all the following conditions met
A. The pair status is “Synchronizing” or “Reverse Synchronizing”
B. Number of pairs which copy process is actually in progress is 4 per CTL
C. LU ownership change occurs on both CTL on all the pairs where copy
process is in progress; that is, LU ownership of 4 pairs on CTL0 is changed
to CTL1 and that of 4 pairs on CTL1 is changed to CTL0

2. If Auto Migration, phenomenon occurs with all following conditions met

A. Auto Migration status is Copying
B. LU ownership change occurs on both CTL by load balance. LU ownership
of 1 LU on CTL0 is changed to CTL1 and that of 1 LU on CTL1 is changed
to CTL0
Cause Deadlock occurs by LU ownership change during copy process of Shadow
Image or Auto Migration.
