NOTE IMPORTANTI
• Prima di collegare l’alimentatore del Galileo alla rete accertatevi che la tensione
corrisponda a quella indicata sull’alimentatore.
• Non applicate eccessiva forza alle strutture ed ai comandi (manopole, interruttori).
• Non collocare, quando possibile, lo strumento in prossimità di unità che producano

forti interferenze come apparecchi radio – TV, monitor, ecc...
• Evitate di posizionare il Galileo in prossimità di fonti di calore, in luoghi umidi o polve-

rosi o nelle vicinanze di forti campi magnetici.
• Evitate di esporre lo strumento all’irradiazione solare diretta.
• Non introdurre per nessuna ragione oggetti estranei o liquidi di qualsiasi genere
all’interno dell’apparecchio.
• Per la pulizia usate solo un pennello morbido od aria compressa, non usate mai
detergenti, solventi od alcool.
• Utilizzate sempre cavi schermati di buona qualità. Inoltre quando scollegate i cavi dalle
prese abbiate cura di afferrarli per il connettore e non per il cavo stesso; avvolgendoli,
inoltre, evitate nodi e torsioni.
• Prima di effettuare i collegamenti accertatevi che le altre unità (in particolar modo
sistemi di amplificazione e di diffusione) siano spente. Eviterete rumorosi se non
pericolosi picchi di segnale.
NOTE RIGUARDANTI LO STRUMENTO

Al fine di ottenere una performance ottimale dello strumento, si raccomanda di seguire le
seguenti note:
• Il Galileo gestisce unicamente memory card di tipo Smart-Media.
• Ponete particolare attenzione alla cura delle memory card evitando di posizionarle in
prossimità di fonti di calore o in ambienti umidi e polverosi e di toccare con le dita i
contatti metallici. Si raccomanda, quando non inserite nel Galileo, di alloggiare le card
nell’astuccio di protezione.
Riguardo alla tipologia di files da utilizzarsi, tenete presente che:
• Il Galileo gestisce unicamente MIDI files standard (estensione .MID), file MIDI Karaoke
(.KAR) e file audio (.MP3). File con estensione diversa non vengono visualizzati.

• Al fine di essere correttamente interpretati dal lettore, i file MIDI devono appartenere
allo standard General MIDI (GM).
• Non è possibile eseguire file MIDI di dimensione superiore ai 320 KByte.

possono essere ritenuti responsabili di qualsiasi tipo di danno sofferto dal cliente causato
da un uso improprio o da modifiche allo strumento, nonché per la perdita o la distruzione
dei dati.

UNA BREVE DESCRIZIONE DEL
GALILEO
Il Voice Systems Galileo è un lettore in grado di riprodurre file in formato Standard Midi
Files (.MID), Karaoke (.KAR) e file audio codificati secondo lo standard MP3.
Oltre a ciò è altresì possibile eseguire file MIDI contenenti tracce audio e file MP3 con il
karaoke.
La generazione sonora dei Midifile è affidata ad una scheda General MIDI (GM), la quale
dispone di una polifonia di 42 note, 393 suoni, 10 drum set ed effetti di Riverbero e Chorus.
Grazie alla scheda video incorporata, il Galileo è in grado di visualizzare sullo schermo
televisivo le parole delle song eseguite sia per i formati Midifile e Kar sia per i file audio
MP3™ (codifica ID3 Ver.2.00). Il segnale in uscita è in formato RGB con audio incorpora-
to.
Come memoria di massa il Galileo utilizza le card Smart-Media™, nei formati da 8 MBytes
a 128 MBytes; per la gestione dei files sono supportati nomi di file lunghi (superiori a 8
caratteri), le folders (cartelle) e subfolders.
Quando connesso ad un computer, tramite il cavo USB, il Galileo viene gestito come unità
“Mass-Storage”, diventando a tutti gli effetti un Hard Disk rimovibile. E’ importante rilevare
che il dispositivo non necessita di software dedicati per memorizzare i files: una semplice
operazione di “trascinamento” (“drag and drop”) o un’operazione di “copia-incolla” sono
sufficienti per trasferire i files dal computer alla Smart-Media™ card inserita nel Galileo in
modo semplice, veloce e sicuro.
La macchina dispone inoltre di un ingresso microfonico (con controllo di livello e Gain

indipendenti) provvisto di effetto interno e di due equalizzatori dedicati alle basi MIDI e ai
file MP3.
Il segnale audio generale del lettore viene anche inviato alla presa SCART, permettendo
l’uso del lettore senza che esso debba essere necessariamente collegato ad impianti di
amplificazione.
L’interfaccia utente multi-lingua (italiano incluso) unita all’adozione del display grafico e di
pratici dispositivi di data entry, rendono l’uso del Galileo facile ed intuitivo.

1. [GAIN]: potenziometro per la regolazione del guadagno in ingresso del segnale

proveniente dal microfono collegato al jack [MIC IN].
2. [LCD GRAPHIC DISPLAY]: display da 122 x 32 pixel retroilluminato tramite il quale

vengono visualizzate le videate di impostazione del lettore.
3. [MASTER]: regolazione del volume del segnale in uscita ai jack [LINE OUT] e alla
presa SCART [RGB VIDEO OUT] presenti sul pannello posteriore.
4. [BALANCE]: regolazione del bilanciamento tra le sorgenti MIDI e MP3. I Led presenti
a fianco dello slider indicano le sorgenti attualmente in fase di riproduzione, ovvero:
• [MP3]: il lettore sta suonando file MP3

• [MIDI]: il lettore sta eseguendo file MIDI
Richiamando basi non mixate (ovvero solo MIDI o solo MP3) consigliamo di posiziona-
re il cursore all’estremità corretta o al centro, dato che l’altra tipologia di file non è al
momento eseguita. Qualora si stia suonando un file MP3, per esempio, posizionare lo
slider su MP3. In caso di basi MIDI contenenti una o più tracce MP3, entrambi i Led si
accenderanno: regolare quindi lo slider per ottenere il bilanciamento desiderato.

5. [MIC.]: regola il volume di uscita del segnale proveniente dal microfono. E’ inoltre
presente il Led [OVL] che, quando acceso, indica saturazione del segnale. In questo
caso diminuire il guadagno in ingresso tramite il potenziometro [GAIN] facendo in
modo che il Led si accendi raramente.
6. Sezione CURSORS: in questa sezione sono raccolti i pulsanti per il movimento del
cursore visualizzato a display e per la selezione delle cartelle, e più precisamente:
• [UP]: sposta il cursore in alto.

• [SELECT]: muove il cursore a destra. Nella videata principale richiama la
funzione Dir.
• [DOWN]: sposta il cursore in basso.
• [BACK]: muove il cursore a sinistra. Nella videata principale richiama la funzio-
ne Dir.
7. Sezione CONTROLS: pulsanti per il controllo generale dello strumento.
• [ON / ENTER]: pulsante per l’accensione del Galileo, per il caricamento dei file
che si desidera suonare, per la selezione delle funzioni a display, per conferma-
re eventuali richieste da parte del sistema e per memorizzare le modifiche
apportate ai parametri di impostazione.
• [ESC]: pulsante per abbandonare la videata corrente senza salvare le modifi-
che.
• [PLAY]: avvia la riproduzione della song caricata. Premuto in fase di play
arresta temporaneamente la riproduzione (pausa).
• [OFF / STOP]: arresta immediatamente la riproduzione del file. Premuto per
qualche secondo posiziona il lettore in modalità di “Stand-By”.
8. [MEMORY CARD]: inserire qui le memory card

Smart-Media.
Prestate particolare attenzione nell’inserire la
card con il lato con i contatti metallici rivolto
verso il basso.
9. Encoder [DATA ENTRY]: encoder rotativo per

la regolazione del valori visualizzati a display.
10. Sezione SET-UP: in questa sezione sono pre-

senti i pulsanti per il richiamo delle impostazioni
generali del lettore.
• [GLOBAL]: visualizza il menu per la regolazione del contrasto del display, la

modalità di riproduzione dei file e i parametri di sistema.
• [VIDEO]: funzioni riguardanti la visualizzazione sul TV.
11. Sezione CARD: qui sono raccolti i pulsanti per la gestione della memory card inserita.
• [SAVE]: salvataggio su memory card delle liste o dei parametri riguardanti le

song.
• [LIST]: visualizzazione dei file inseriti in una lista.
• [DIR]: visualizzazione del contenuto della memory card.

• [MIC.]: regolazione dell’effetto applicato al segnale del microfono.

• [EQ.]: impostazione degli equalizzatori separati per la generazione dei file MIDI
ed MP3.
13. Sezione MIDI SONG SETTINGS: pulsanti per la visualizzazione delle funzioni di mo-
difica dei MIDI File.
• [TRANSP.]: trasposizione generale della song.

• [MUTE]: muting di determinate tracce della song.
• [TEMPO]: regolazione del tempo metronomico con cui viene riprodotta la base
MIDI.
IL PANNELLO POSTERIORE

1. [RGB VIDEO OUT]: presa SCART per il collegamento di un televisore. In aggiunta alla
visualizzazione del karaoke eventualmente presente nella song in corso di riproduzio-
ne, tramite un TV potrete amplificare il segnale audio del lettore, evitando così di
collegare sistemi di amplificazione / diffusione.
ATTENZIONE!
Per il collegamento del Galileo con un TV utilizzare esclusivamente una cavo con
presa SCART con tutti i 21 poli collegati.
2. [MIDI OUT]: presa DIN 5 poli dei dati MIDI trasmessi dal Galileo per il collegamento di
unità MIDI esterne quali sequencer, expander, batterie elettroniche, ecc…
3. [USB]: connettore USB per il collegamento del Galileo con un computer.

4. [SW]: presa Jack per il collegamento di un pedale di tipo foot-switch (non fornito in
dotazione con lo strumento).
5. [LINE OUT]: prese Jack di uscita del segnale audio generato dal Galileo per il collega-
mento di sistemi di amplificazione, mixaggio e diffusione. In caso di utilizzo di un se-
gnale monofonico utilizzare esclusivamente la presa [L/MONO].
6. [AC-IN]: connettore per il collegamento dell’alimentatore esterno fornito in dotazione.
ATTENZIONE!
Per l’alimentazione del Galileo utilizzare esclusivamente l’alimentatore fornito

in dotazione. Qualora si verificassero problemi con l’unità presente nell’imballo
contattare il più vicino centro di assistenza. VOICE SYSTEMS non garantisce lo
strumento qualora vengano collegati alimentatori non certificati per l’utilizzo con il
Galileo.
IL PANNELLO LATERALE

1. [PHONES]: presa Jack stereo per il collegamento di un set di cuffie. Si consiglia di

utilizzare cuffie con impedenza minima di 16 Ω.
2. [MIC. IN]: presa Jack per il collegamento di un microfono. Utilizzando questo ingresso,
sulle uscite audio (e sulla presa [RGB VIDEO OUT]) sarà presente il segnale prove-
niente dalle song riprodotte e quello proveniente dal microfono, evitando così ulteriori
collegamenti con impianti di mixaggio e di diffusione.
Oltre a ciò, il Galileo è provvisto di un effetto interno tramite il quale aggiungere spazialità
e profondità alla vostra voce.

ESEMPI DI COLLEGAMENTO

LA PRIMA ACCENSIONE
Dopo aver collegato il cavo dell’alimentatore alla presa [AC-IN] posta sul pannello poste-
riore, il Led del pulsante [ENTER] si accenderà indicando che il Galileo è in modalità di
basso consumo (“Stand-By”).
Per accendere ora il lettore tenere premuto per qualche istante il pulsante [ENTER].
Il display visualizzerà, dapprima, la videate iniziale:
quindi la versione del sistema operativo attualmente installata nel sistema (campo
FIRMWARE REL. - VER. FIRMWARE):
Dopo qualche istante verrà visualizzata la directory principale (denominata anche “Radi-
ce”) della memory card inserita:
Accendendo invece il lettore senza card inserita, il display visualizzerà:
informando che per procedere è necessario inserirne una.

SELEZIONE DELLA LINGUA
Il Galileo è provvisto di un interfaccia utente multi-lingua, per cui la prima operazione da

eseguire è la selezione della lingua desiderata.
Per fare ciò premere il pulsante [GLOBAL],
tramite il pulsante [CURSOR DOWN] portare ora il cursore sul campo SYSTEM e preme-
re [ENTER],
selezionare quindi il campo MORE:
ed impostare il parametro LANGUAGE come ITALIANO.
SELEZIONE DELLA MODALITA’ USB
Anche se non avete ancora collegato il Galileo al vostro computer, è buona norma sin da
ora impostare la modalità di trasmissione dati USB, evitando così possibili errori durante
la prima connessione.
Il Galileo prevede tre diverse modalità di funzionamento, in base al sistema operativo con
il quale dovrà dialogare.
L’impostazione della modalità USB è presente nella stessa videata descritta per la
selezione della lingua.
Nella tabella riportata nella prossima pagina vengono indicati i modi USB previsti dal Galileo
in funzione del sistema operativo presente nel computer che si desidera collegare.

Dopo aver impostato la lingua e la modalità USB desiderate premere [ENTER] per confer-
mare le nuove impostazioni ed abbandonare la videata corrente. Premere infine [ESC]
per tornare a visualizzare la videata principale.
SPEGNERE IL LETTORE
Lo spegnimento del Galileo prevede un salvataggio di tutti i parametri interni del sistema.
Per spegnere il lettore e salvare pertanto queste impostazioni tenere premuto per qualche
istante il pulsante [STOP], il sistema chiederà una conferma tramite la videata:
premere quindi [ENTER] per posizionare in modalità di “Stand-By” lo strumento o qualsi-

asi altro pulsante del pannello frontale per tornare al normale modo di funzionamento.
ATTENZIONE!
Qualora il lettore venga spento scollegando il cavo di alimentazione senza prima

premere il pulsante [STOP], tutte le modifiche effettuate ai parametri sopra
riportati verranno perse.

COLLEGARE E REGOLARE IL
MICROFONO
Collegando un microfono al Galileo tramite la presa [MIC IN] presente sul pannello latera-
le, sarà necessario innanzitutto regolare il guadagno del segnale in ingresso, evitando
così possibili distorsioni indesiderate. A tal fine utilizzare il potenziometro [GAIN].
Posizionare il potenziometro a circa metà corsa e lo slider [MIC] nella posizione in cui si
desidera ascoltare il segnale. Questo slider difatti regola il livello in uscita, per cui non è
responsabile di eventuali distorsioni. Agire ora sul [GAIN] in modo che il Led [OVD] si
accenda solo in caso di elevata dinamica del segnale (urlo).
NOTA
Per una migliore resa del microfono consigliamo di effettuare il collegamento

utilizzando un connettore Jack bilanciato.
UTILIZZARE UN SET DI CUFFIE

Per collegare un set di cuffie inserire il Jack nella presa [PHONES]. Il sistema rileverà
automaticamente la presenza delle cuffie, visualizzando la videata:
Per la regolazione del volume del segnale in cuffia utilizzare l’encoder [DATA ENTRY]
durante la visualizzazione della videata principale.
NOTA
Lo slider [MASTER] non regola il livello del segnale in cuffia.

SELEZIONARE E SUONARE LE SONG
CARICARE UNA SONG
Terminate le procedure di accensione e di controllo, il sistema si posiziona automatica-

mente nella funzione Dir, richiamabile comunque in qualsiasi istante premendo il pulsante
[DIR]:

NOTA
La funzione Dir viene automaticamente visualizzata ad ogni inserimento di una

memory card.
Questa funzione permette di accedere al contenuto della memory card attualmente

inserita, di caricare la song desiderata o di programmare una lista.
Come è possibile notare dal disegno, la videata informa circa la directory (o cartella)
attualmente selezionata.
Al primo accesso viene sempre visualizzata la directory “Radice”.
Al centro della videata viene invece visualizzato il contenuto della directory selezionata, la
quale può contenere altre sotto-directory (o sotto-cartelle), file MIDI, file MP3 o liste.
Di seguito una descrizione delle icone:

Nel disegno sottostante è invece riportato un esempio della struttura “ad albero” che si
può creare nelle memory card.
Per muoversi ora all’interno delle directory e selezionare il file desiderato utilizzare i
seguenti pulsanti:
• [UP]: per muovere il cursore in alto.

• [SELECT] quando il cursore sta indicando una cartella: per aprire la cartella selezio-
nata.
• [SELECT] quando il cursore sta indicando un file: per caricare in una lista il file selezio-
nato.
• [DOWN]: per muovere il cursore in basso.
• [BACK]: per tornare alla cartella precedente.
• [ENTER] quando il cursore sta indicando una cartella: per aprire la cartella seleziona-
ta.
• [ENTER] quando il cursore sta indicando un file: per caricare il file selezionato (ovvero
file MIDI, MP3 o List)
Per il movimento del cursore è altresì possibile avvalersi dell’utilizzo dell’encoder [DATA
ENTRY].
In caso di caricamento di una base MIDI il sistema visualizzerà il messaggio:
per il tempo necessario a caricare i dati nella memoria interna.

SUONARE UNA SONG
Terminato il caricamento del file il display visualizzerà la videata di play della song, videata
che risulta essere differente in base al file caricato.

Premendo il tasto [PLAY] il Led si accenderà e la riproduzione del brano avrà inizio.
Con il tasto [STOP] l’esecuzione della song verrà terminata, mentre premendo [PLAY] la
stessa viene sospesa ed il Led del pulsante inizierà a lampeggiare, indicando la modalità
di pausa.
Ripremendo [PLAY] l’esecuzione riprenderà dal punto in cui era stata interrotta.
Per caricare immediatamente una nuova song, terminare l’esecuzione di quella attuale
premendo [STOP], visualizzare il contenuto della memory card tramite i tasti della sezione
[CURSOR], il pulsante [DIR] o l’encoder [DATA ENTRY] (se non è collegato un set di
cuffie) e selezionare la song desiderata.

Per prenotare invece la song successiva, visualizzato il contenuto della memory card,
selezionare tramite il pulsante [SELECT] il file che si desidera suonare e premere [ENTER].
Tornati alla videata principale premere [STOP] per eseguire immediatamente la nuova
song o attendere la fine naturale di quella attualmente in corso di riproduzione.
NOTE
E’ importante ricordare che tutte le funzioni di controllo e configurazione del lettore

sono accessibili in qualsiasi momento, senza quindi dover necessariamente inter-
rompere la riproduzione del brano. Oltre alle normali regolazioni dei volumi e/o
bilanciamenti, pertanto, potrete impostare in tempo reale le funzioni di modifica
delle basi MIDI, l’equalizzatore, il microfono, programmare una lista, ecc…
Per quanto riguarda la programmazione ed esecuzione di liste di song si rimanda
al capitolo “Le List”.
Durante la riproduzione di un brano, sia esso Midifile o MP3, abbiate cura di non
estrarre la memory card onde evitare l’interruzione delle song.
Qualora la funzione SALTO HEADER (vedi par. “Modalità di riproduzione delle
song”) sia attivata, dopo aver caricato una base MIDI il campo MISU. non
visualizzerà la misura 1, ma quella in cui è presente il primo evento nota o la prima
sillaba del testo.
Per quanto concerne la descrizione dei delle basi MIDI contenenti file MP3 di
rimanda al manuale avanzato.

COLLEGAMENTO CON UN COMPUTER
Per copiare, cancellare, spostare e rinominare i file nella memory card è necessario
collegare il Galileo ad un computer tramite il cavo USB fornito in dotazione.
Durante il primo collegamento il computer necessiterà dei driver necessari al corretto

funzionamento dell’interfaccia USB. I sistemi operativi Windows ME, 2000, XP e Mac 9.1
(o superiore) installeranno automaticamente, dal proprio database, i driver necessari al
dialogo con il Galileo.
Qualora, invece, si stia utilizzando Windows 98 Seconda Edizione sarà necessario instal-
lare manualmente i driver contenuti nel CD fornito in dotazione con il lettore.
Di seguito verranno quindi descritte le operazioni di installazione dei driver in base al

sistema operativo utilizzato.
WINDOWS 98 SECONDA EDIZIONE

Accendere il Galileo ed impostare la modalità USB NORMALE nella videata ALTRE
INFORMAZIONI del menu Global (per maggiori informazioni consultare il cap. “LA PRIMA
ACCENSIONE”).
Accendere il PC e attendere il completamento delle operazioni di caricamento del sistema
operativo.
Inserire il CD-ROM presente nell’imballo del Galileo e collegare il lettore al PC tramite il
cavo USB.
Il sistema operativo rileverà automaticamente la presenza di un nuovo dispositivo,

identificandone il tipo ed il produttore, ed iniziando l’installazione dei driver necessari:
Cliccare sul pulsante “Avanti”,

e selezionare l’opzione “Cerca il miglior driver per la periferica”. Cliccare di nuovo sul
pulsante “Avanti”:
E’ ora necessario informare il sistema operativo circa il percorso in cui effettuare la ricerca
dei driver. Selezionare pertanto “Unità CD-ROM” e cliccare su “Avanti”.

Accendere il Galileo ed impostare la modalità USB NORMALE (Windows ME e 2000) o
AVANZATO (Windows XP) nella videata ALTRE INFORMAZIONI del menu GLOBAL (per
maggiori informazioni consultare il cap. “LA PRIMA ACCENSIONE”).
Accendere il PC e attendere il completamento delle operazioni di caricamento del sistema
operativo.
Collegare quindi il Galileo al PC tramite il cavo USB. Il sistema operativo rileverà automa-
ticamente la presenza di un nuovo dispositivo identificandone il tipo ed il produttore:
ed installandone i driver necessari:
Verranno infine visualizzati i messaggi circa il dispositivo USB collegato:
e come questo è stato installato nel sistema operativo:
Al completamento delle operazioni verrà visualizzata l’icona:
Questa icona indica che è stato collegato un dispositivo munito di memory card, verrà
pertanto visualizzata ogni qualvolta il Galileo sarà collegato al PC.

MAC O.S. 9.1 o superiore
Accendere il Galileo ed impostare la modalità USB MAC nella videata ALTRE INFORMA-
ZIONI del menu Global (per maggiori informazioni consultare il cap. “LA PRIMA ACCEN-
SIONE”).
Accendere il computer e attendere il completamento delle operazioni di caricamento del
sistema operativo.
Collegare quindi il Galileo al computer tramite il cavo USB. Il sistema operativo rileverà
automaticamente la presenza di un nuovo dispositivo installandone i driver necessari.
Al completamento dell’operazione verrà visualizzata l’icona “Senza titolo” la quale indica

che il Galileo è stato collegato correttamente e che l’installazione dei driver è andata a
buon fine.
NOTE
In aggiunta all’icona visualizzata dal computer, ad ogni collegamento (o accensio-

ne con collegamento già effettuato) il Galileo visualizzerà:
informando circa l’avvenuta connessione ed il modo USB impostato.

Utilizzando un computer Macintosh e richiamando la funzione DIR del Galileo
verranno visualizzate, sul display del lettore, quattro cartelle nominate “Desktop
folder”, “The volume settings folder”, “Trash” e “—Move & Rename”.
Queste sono cartelle di sistema le quali non verranno visualizzate controllando il
contenuto della memory card con il computer.
Per estrarre la memory card dal Galileo quando questo è collegato ad un
computer Macintosh, è necessario selezionare il comando “Espelli” ed estrarre
velocemente la card. Il comando in oggetto è selezionabile cliccando sull’icona
del Galileo con il pulsante della tastiera C premuto.

UTILIZZO DEL COMPUTER PER LA GESTIONE DEI FILE
MEMORIZZATI NEL GALILEO
Una volta installati i driver necessari alla gestione della memory card, l’utilizzo del compu-
ter (sia esso PC o Mac) quale dispositivo di controllo del Galileo risulta facile ed intuitivo.
Difatti il sistema operativo “vede” il Galileo come un’unità di memorizzazione esterna
nominata “Disco rimovibile”.
Cliccando quindi su “Risorse del computer”,
verranno visualizzati i vari dispositivi installati nel sistema, tra cui “Disco rimovibile”.
“Disco rimovibile” è il Galileo. Cliccando sull’icona potrete controllare il contenuto della

cartella “Radice”:

Qualora siano presenti altre sotto-cartelle sarà sufficiente cliccare su di esse per verificar-
ne il contenuto.
Potrete ora copiare file dal vostro computer nella memory card inserita nel Galileo,
cancellarli o creare / cancellare cartelle.
Sarà altresì possibile riprodurre i file MIDI o MP3 memorizzati nella memory card qualora
nel vostro computer siano installati applicativi atti a questo scopo.
Durante qualsiasi operazione eseguita con il computer, il monitor visualizzerà i messaggi

relativi l’operazione in corso (es. “Copia in corso…”). Sul Galileo, invece, lampeggerà il
Led del pulsante [SAVE].
A causa delle caratteristiche di alcuni sistemi operativi potrebbe verificarsi la condizione
per cui il messaggio sul monitor venga cancellato quando ancora il Led del pulsante [SAVE]
lampeggia, indicando quindi che l’operazione non è terminata. In questo caso evitare di
scollegare il cavo USB e/o di estrarre la memory card fino allo spegnimento del Led.
COPIA DI FILE DAL COMPUTER NELLA MEMORY CARD DEL GALILEO
Per copiare uno o più file nel Galileo sarà necessario selezionare la cartella dell’hard disk
in cui sono presenti i file che si desidera copiare e trascinarli sull’icona “Disco rimovibile”.
E’ altresì possibile utilizzare i comandi “Copia” e “Incolla” o la combinazione di tasti C +

c e C + v.

CANCELLAZIONE DI FILE O CARTELLE PRESENTI NELLA MEMORY CARD DEL
GALILEO
E’ sufficiente selezionare l’icona “Disco rimovibile” quindi la cartella e/o i file che si deside-
ra cancellare. Utilizzare il comando “Elimina” (presente nella finestra visualizzabile con il
tasto destro del mouse) o il tasto ® e cliccare su “Ok” alla richiesta del computer:
CREAZIONE DI NUOVE CARTELLE NELLA MEMORY CARD DEL GALILEO
Per creare una nuova cartella nella memory card selezionare l’icona “Disco rimovibile” (o
una cartella in esso contenuta) e utilizzare il comando “Nuovo” (presente nella finestra
visualizzabile con il tasto destro del mouse):

quindi “Cartella”.
Verrà creata una cartella nominata “Nuova cartella”. Comporre il nome desiderato e
premere E.
Oltre a creare cartelle nella “Radice” potrete creare altre sotto-cartelle. In questo caso
tenete presente che il Galileo supporta un massimo di 5 livelli di sotto-cartelle.
NOTE
Utilizzando il modo USB NORMALE, in caso di errori durante le operazioni sulla

memory card, il sistema operativo potrebbe visualizzare messaggi non propria-
mente legati al tipo di errore verificatosi. Per conoscere l’esatta causa dell’errore,
pertanto, controllare il messaggio visualizzato sul display del Galileo (per maggio-
ri informazioni consultare il par. “Messaggi di errore”).
Non è possibile memorizzare più di 512 file nella directory principale “Radice”.
Utilizzando computer Macintosh potrebbe verificarsi che, dopo aver inserito una
memory card nel Galileo, non compaia l’icona sullo schermo. In questo caso è
necessario estrarre e reinserire la card.
Al fine di garantire una perfetta gestione delle memory card, raccomandiamo di
eseguire le formattazioni tramite il Galileo (vedi par. “Informazioni card”).
Utilizzando Windows 98 S.E., in caso di estrazione della memory card dal Galileo
si consiglia di attendere circa 7 secondi prima di reinserne un’altra.

FUNZIONI DI MODIFICA DELLE
BASI MIDI
Il Galileo permette di usufruire di alcune importanti funzioni di modifica delle basi MIDI,
richiamabili con i pulsanti raccolti nella sezione MIDI SONG SETTINGS del pannello
frontale.
Queste funzioni sono attivabili in tempo reale ovvero durante l’esecuzione di una song,
offrendo quindi il notevole vantaggio di essere estremamente veloci nella loro applicazio-
ne e di valido aiuto nell’apportare modifiche temporanee alle song in esecuzione.
Le funzioni in oggetto permettono:
- TRANSPOSE: trasposizione per semitoni della tonalità.

- MUTE: esclusione di determinate tracce dalla riproduzione.
- TEMPO: modifica del tempo metronomico.
Per richiamare le funzioni premere il relativo pulsante (sia in fase di riproduzione che di
stop).
Il display visualizzerà la videata di impostazione qualora sia necessario modificarne i
parametri. In questa fase, inoltre, il Led del pulsante premuto lampeggerà, informando che
si stanno regolando i parametri interni della funzione, ma che la stessa non è ancora
applicata alla base.
Premendo [ENTER] le nuove impostazioni verranno memorizzate e la song suonerà in
base alle modifiche impostate.
Per disattivare la funzione, premerne il relativo pulsante.
Le modifiche eseguite tramite le funzioni descritte in questo capitolo, non modificano i dati
delle basi MIDI memorizzate nella memory card, ma il modo in cui questi vengono
riprodotti dal Galileo. Qualora si desideri modificare definitivamente i parametri interni
delle basi è necessario eseguire le operazioni descritte nel par. “SALVARE SU MEMORY
CARD LE IMPOSTAZIONI DEL GALILEO”.
Per quanto riguarda la modalità di attivazione delle funzioni MIDI SONG SETTINGS e dei
file memorizzati con la funzione di salvataggio fare riferimento al par. “Modalità di riprodu-
zione delle song – Impostazioni utente”.
NOTA
Queste funzioni non sono attivabili per i file MP3. Ponete particolare attenzione,
pertanto, all’uso delle funzioni in oggetto in caso di riproduzione di basi MIDI con-
tenenti tracce MP3.
Vediamo ora in dettaglio le tre funzioni MIDI SONG SETTINGS.

TRASPOSIZIONE DELLA BASE
La funzione TRANSPOSE permette di modificare la tonalità del brano in esecuzione,
ovvero di trasporre di un numero regolabile di semitoni le note su tutte le tracce (i canali
MIDI) ad eccezione di quella relativa la batteria.
Questa traccia, infatti, (di norma la n.° 10, denominata DRUM TRACK) non deve essere
trasposta per evitare l’esecuzione di timbriche di batteria differenti da quelle previste, le
quali comprometterebbero la ritmica della base musicale.
Premendo il pulsante [TRANSP.] il display visualizzerà la videata di regolazione della

trasposizione:
in cui sono presenti i seguenti parametri:
• SEMITONI: regola la trasposizione in semitoni

• TRACCIA DRUM: imposta la traccia di batteria
Eseguite le regolazioni desiderate premere [ENTER] per memorizzarle ed applicarle alla

base in corso di riproduzione.
Volendo invece annullare le nuove regolazioni e disattivare la funzione di modifica preme-
re [TRANSP.] o [ESC].
In entrambi i casi il display tornerà a visualizzare la videata principale di funzionamento.
Qualora si desideri visualizzare e/o modificare i parametri di trasposizione quando la

funzione è attiva, tenere premuto per qualche instante il pulsante [TRANSP.].
MUTE DELLE TRACCE

La funzione MUTE permette, in fase di riproduzione di una song, di ridurre la dinamica (e
quindi il volume) delle note o eliminare completamente dall’esecuzione uno o più canali
MIDI.
Per attivare la funzione premere il pulsante [MUTE], il display ne visualizzerà dapprima la

videata di configurazione:

contenente i seguenti parametri:
• CANALE: seleziona il canale che si desidera impostare

• TIPO: regola il modo di Mute, ovvero:
- OFF: la traccia non viene esclusa dalla riproduzione
- HALF: le note presenti nella traccia selezionata vengono suonate con volume
dimezzato
- ON: la traccia viene esclusa dalla riproduzione
Premere quindi [ENTER] per memorizzare le nuove impostazioni ed attivare la funzione in

oggetto.
re [TRANSP.] o [ESC].
Qualora si desideri visualizzare e/o modificare i parametri di Mute quando la funzione è

attiva, tenere premuto per qualche instante il pulsante [MUTE].
MODIFICARE IL TEMPO METRONOMICO

Scopo della funzione TEMPO è quello di variare il tempo metronomico con cui suonare le
basi MIDI. Premendo pertanto il pulsante [TEMPO] il display visualizzerà la videata:
Questi i parametri di configurazione:
• PERCENTUALE: permette di regolare la variazione non del tempo metronomico

assoluto ma di una percentuale di ricalcolo, onde garantire una variazione proporzio-
nale anche in caso di “rallentati” od “accelerati” che possono essere previsti durante
l’esecuzione del brano. Impostando, per esempio, 50, il nuovo tempo sarà la metà di
quello originale. Regolando 200 sarà il doppio.
• NUOVO: visualizza il nuovo valore del tempo metronomico.
• ORIGINALE: visualizza il valore originale del tempo metronomico.
Eseguite le regolazioni desiderate premere [ENTER] per memorizzarle ed attivare la

funzione in oggetto.
re [TEMPO] o [ESC].
Qualora si desideri visualizzare e/o modificare la variazione del tempo metronomico quando
la funzione è attiva, tenere premuto per qualche instante il pulsante [TEMPO].

LE LIST
Con il termine List si intende la possibilità di programmare e salvare nella memory card
sequenze di song, siano esse basi MIDI o MP3, memorizzate anche in directory diverse.
Per programmare una List visualizzare innanzitutto il contenuto della memory card
premendo il pulsante [DIR]:
Tramite i pulsanti [UP] e [DOWN] della sezione CURSOR posizionare ora il cursore sulla
prima song che si desidera inserire nella List: a tal fine premere il pulsante [SELECT].
Come sarà possibile notare verrà visualizzato un piccolo numero vicino al nome del file:
Questo numero sta ad indicare la posizione della song all’interno della List. Oltre a ciò
viene visualizzata l’icona “LISTA” informando, appunto, che si sta componendo una List.
Eseguire la procedura sopra descritta per inserire tutte le song desiderate, residenti
anche su cartelle diverse. Per deselezionare un file inserito nella List è sufficiente posizio-
nare il cursore sulla song desiderata e premere di nuovo [SELECT].
Terminata la selezione dei file premere [ENTER] per confermare la programmazione o

[ESC] per annullare il tutto. Alla conferma il sistema caricherà la prima song:
e tornerà a visualizzare la videata principale:

indicando, tramite l’icona in alto a destra, che attualmente è caricata una List e non la
singola song.
Premendo ora [PLAY] il Galileo inizierà a riprodurre il brano, terminato il quale (sia a
causa del termine naturale o forzato tramite il pulsante [STOP]) verrà caricata la seconda
song della lista, quindi la terza, e così via.
Tenendo premuto per qualche istante il pulsante [STOP] sarà possibile arrestare
definitivamente la riproduzione della List.
Per verificare o modificare in qualsiasi istante (anche durante la riproduzione di una song)
il contenuto della lista premere il pulsante [LIST].
Qualora si desideri modificare la posizione di una song, puntare la stessa con il cursore
tramite l’encoder e, utilizzando i pulsanti [UP] e [DOWN], selezionare la posizione deside-
rata.
Premendo invece [SELECT], la song selezionata verrà esclusa dalla lista.
Per escludere, invece, tutte le song della List tenere premuto per qualche istante il pulsan-
te [LIST]. In questo caso il display visualizzerà:
premere [ENTER] per confermare o [ESC] per annullare.
NOTE
Nella videata IMPOSTAZIONI MODALITA’ PLAY del menu GLOBAL potrete

regolare la modalità di esecuzione delle song presenti in una List (per maggiori
informazioni consultare il par. “MODALITA’ DI RIPRODUZIONE DELLE SONG”).
Il campo “LISTA” in alto alla destra del display non viene visualizzato program-
mando una lista contenente una sola song.
Per quanto concerne i messaggi di errore visualizzati durante il play delle song
fate riferimento ai par.”MESSAGGI DI INFORMAZIONE” e “MESSAGGI DI
ERRORE”.

SALVATAGGIO DELLE LIST
Per salvare una List precedentemente programmata premere il pulsante [LIST] e, alla
visualizzazione del contenuto, premere [SAVE].
Il sistema chiederà di inserire un nome con cui salvare la List:
Utilizzare i pulsanti [SELECT] e/o [BACK] per muovere il cursore e [UP], [DOWN] o
l’encoder per inserire i caratteri desiderati.
Qualora si desideri salvare la List in una directory diversa da quella attualmente selezio-
nata premere il pulsante [DIR] e selezionare la cartella desiderata.
Premere infine [ENTER] per procedere con il salvataggio. Durante la scrittura nella memory
card verrà visualizzata la videata:
ATTENZIONE!
A causa delle caratteristiche dell’interfaccia USB, qualora il Galileo sia collegato

al computer non sarà possibile salvare la List nella memory card. In questo caso
verrà visualizzato il messaggio:
Scollegare il cavo USB e rieseguire l’operazione di salvataggio.

Salvando una List con un nome di una già presente nella memory card, il sistema
eseguirà automaticamente una sovrascrittura del file originale.

RICERCA VELOCE DI UN FILE
Il Galileo permette, tramite la funzione CERCA ELEMENTO, la ricerca all’interno della
memory card inserita di un determinato file (sia esso una base MIDI, un MP3 o una List) o
di una cartella.
Grazie a ciò sarà possibile trovare in maniera veloce un determinato file senza bisogno di
controllare manualmente tutto il contenuto della memory card.
Per richiamare la funzione in oggetto tenere premuto per qualche istante il pulsante [DIR],
verrà visualizzata la videata:
Inserire ora, tramite l’encoder e/o i pulsanti [UP] e [DOWN], le lettere con cui inizieranno
il/i file che si desidera cercare. Utilizzare i pulsanti [BACK] e [SELECT] per muovere il
cursore.
Inserendo, per esempio, la lettera “F”, il Galileo troverà tutti i file che iniziano con questa
lettera. Qualora si conosca già il nome di un file, è possibile inserire il nome per intero, così
da caricare immediatamente il file desiderato.
Inserite le lettere premere [DIR], il sistema inizierà la ricerca:
dopodichè visualizzerà il primo file trovato. Utilizzare di nuovo il pulsante [DIR] per punta-
re il file successivo.
Premere invece [ESC] per abbandonare la funzione.
Al termine della ricerca verrà visualizzato il messaggio:
Premere [ESC] per tornare a visualizzare la funzione DIR.

L’EFFETTO PER IL MICROFONO
Come descritto nelle note introduttive di questo manuale e nella descrizione delle
connessioni, tramite la presa [MIC IN] è possibile collegare un microfono al Galileo.
Il segnale proveniente dal microfono può a sua volta essere elaborato da un effetto
dedicato, simile al Delay (effetto di eco), e rediretto alle uscite [LINE OUT] e [RGB VIDEO
OUT].
Per regolare questo effetto premere il pulsante [MIC.] presente nella sezione AUDIO del
pannello frontale. Verrà visualizzata la videata:
in cui sono presenti i seguenti i parametri di impostazione:
• LIVELLO: regola il livello dell’effetto.

• DURATA: imposta la durata delle ripetizioni.
• FEEDBACK: imposta il tempo di decadimento delle ripetizioni (ovvero quante
ripetizioni verranno generate).
Eseguite le regolazioni desiderate premere [ENTER] per confermare e memorizzare i

nuovi valori o [ESC] per annullare.

L’EQUALIZZATORE
Il Galileo è provvisto di due equalizzatori interni per il controllo del suono generato dalle
basi MIDI e dai file MP3.
L’equalizzatore per le basi MIDI è un due bande semi-parametrico, mentre quello per i file
MP3 è un due bande grafico con sistema anti-clipping.
Per accedere alle videate di regolazione dei due equalizzatori premere il pulsante [EQ.]
presente nella sezione AUDIO del pannello frontale:
L’EQUALIZZATORE DELLE BASI MIDI

Come descritto nelle note introduttive di questo capitolo, l’equalizzatore applicabile alle
basi MIDI è di tipo semi-parametrico a due bande.
Un equalizzatore parametrico permette la regolazione delle bande di intervento sia per ciò
che concerne il guadagno o l’attenuazione, sia per quanto riguarda la frequenza di
intervento. In poche parole è possibile regolare dove il sistema deve agire e di quanto.
Per accedere ai parametri di regolazione selezionare la voce AUDIO MIDI FILE nella
videata precedentemente descritta. Il display visualizzerà:
Questi i parametri di regolazione:
• BAS G: regola l’esaltazione o l’attenuazione delle basse frequenze in un range di ± 12

dB.
• FR: imposta la frequenza centrale della banda di intervento LOW in un range da 0 Hz
(FR=0) a 4,7 KHz (FR=127).
• ALTI G: regola l’esaltazione o l’attenuazione delle alte frequenze in un range di ± 12
dB.
• FR: imposta la frequenza centrale della banda di intervento HIGH in un range da 0 Hz
(FR=0) a 18,75 KHz (FR=127).

L’EQUALIZZATORE DEI FILE MP3
L’equalizzatore per il controllo dei file audio MP3 è di tipo grafico a due bande, permetten-
do la regolazione delle basse ed alte frequenze.
Oltre a ciò l’equalizzatore è provvisto di un sistema anti-clipping, regolabile con tre diverse
modalità di intervento, tramite il quale eliminare un eventuale saturazione del segnale.
Per accedere ai parametri di regolazione selezionare la voce AUDIO MP3 nella videata di
selezione del tipo di equalizzatore:
La videata risulta essere composta dai seguenti parametri:
• BASSI: regola il guadagno (valori positivi) o l’attenuazione (valori negativi) delle basse
frequenze in un range di valori di ± 15 dB.
• ACUTI: regola il guadagno (valori positivi) o l’attenuazione (valori negativi) delle alte
frequenze in un range di valori di ± 15 dB.
• ANTI CLIP: imposta la modalità di intervento del sistema anti-clipping il quale agisce
attenuando le componenti del segnale di maggiore intensità. E’ possibile disattivarlo
(selezionando OFF) o impostare tre diverse modalità di attenuazione: minima (MIN),
media (MED) o massima (MAX).

SALVARE SU MEMORY CARD LE
IMPOSTAZIONI DEL GALILEO
Il Galileo offre la possibilità di salvare, per ciascun file MIDI o MP3, tutte le impostazioni
raccolte nelle sezioni MIDI SONG SETTINGS, AUDIO e VIDEO e di riattuarle automatica-
mente al momento del caricamento delle song.
Come precedentemente descritto, le funzioni raccolte nelle suddette sezioni sono

strettamente correlate al tipo di file caricato. Per cui per una base MIDI sarà possibile
salvare:
• Tutte le funzioni MIDI SONG SETTINGS

• Le impostazioni del microfono
• Le regolazioni dell’equalizzatore dedicato alle basi MIDI
• Le impostazioni video
Per un file MP3, sarà invece possibile salvare:
• Le regolazioni dell’equalizzatore dedicato ai file MP3

• Le regolazioni del microfono
• Le impostazioni video
Per quanto riguarda basi MIDI contenenti tracce MP3 sarà possibile selezionare tutte le
opzioni di salvattaggio sopra descritte.
Le operazioni di salvataggio creeranno nella memory card un file .INI, in caso di salvatag-
gio delle impostazioni inerenti le basi MIDI, o un file .TXT qualora si desideri salvare le
funzioni riguardanti i file MP3. Per una più facile e veloce ricerca, il file che verrà creato
avrà lo stesso nome della song.
Questi file potranno essere successivamente aperti e modificati con qualsiasi editor di
testo presente nei computer, sarà così possibile modificare a proprio piacimento le
impostazioni senza dover necessariamente rieseguire un nuovo salvataggio.
Per salvare le impostazioni desiderate caricare innanzitutto il file MIDI o MP3 desiderato.
Impostare quindi i parametri sopra descritti in base alle proprie esigenze e premere infine
il pulsante [SAVE]. Il display visualizzerà:

collegato al computer. In questo caso il display visualizzerà il messaggio:
Scollegare pertanto il cavo USB e rieseguire l’operazione.

Eseguita l’operazione di salvataggio verrà creato nella memory card un file (.TXT
o .INI) con lo stesso nome della base MIDI o MP3 ma con lunghezza massima di
8 caratteri.
Tutte le informazioni relative la modifica dei parametri presenti nei file .TXT o .INI
sono riportate nella Guida Avanzata.

IMPOSTAZIONI GLOBALI
Premendo il pulsante [GLOBAL], presente nella sezione SET-UP del pannello frontale, si
ha accesso a tutte le impostazioni globali tramite le quali configurare e personalizzare al
meglio lo strumento in base alle proprie esigenze.
Queste impostazioni riguardano (tra parentesi la relativa voce a display):
• regolazione del contrasto del display (CONTRASTO DISPLAY)

• impostazioni inerenti la riproduzione delle song (MODO PLAY)
• impostazioni di sistema (SISTEMA)
Dopo aver premuto il pulsante sopra descritto, il display visualizzerà la videata MENU
IMPOSTAZIONI GENERALI (d’ora in poi chiamato menu GLOBAL):
Per richiamare una funzione selezionare il campo interessato tramite i pulsanti [CURSOR]
e premere [ENTER]. Per la regolazione utilizzare l’encoder. Premere infine [ENTER] per
memorizzare le nuove impostazioni o [ESC] per annullare e ripristinare la configurazione
precedente.
CONTRASTO DEL DISPLAY

Il display del Galileo è dotato di controllo del contrasto così da ottenere sempre la massi-
ma leggibilità in funzione dell’angolo assunto dall’utente.
Per accedere alla regolazione selezionare la voce CONTRASTO DISPLAY dal menu Global
e premere [ENTER], il display visualizzerà la videata:
modalità STANDARD
La quale contiene i seguenti campi:
• VALORE: valore del contrasto del display.

• REVERSE: richiama la modalità “Reverse” del display.
Selezionare NO per visualizzare le videate in modalità modalità REVERSE
standard o SI per visualizzarle in modalità invertita.

MODALITA’ DI RIPRODUZIONE DELLE SONG
Selezionando il campo MODO PLAY nel menu Global, verrà visualizzata la videata:
Come è possibile notare questa videata non contiene parametri di programmazione ma

un sotto-menu di funzioni, adibite al settaggio della riproduzione delle song.
Tali impostazioni risultano essere (tra parentesi la relativa voce a display):
• modalità di attivazione delle funzioni Transp., Mute e Tempo (IMPOSTAZIONI UTENTE)

• modalità di riproduzione delle liste e delle song in esse contenute (MODO START)
• impostazione del pedale (AZIONE PEDALE)
IMPOSTAZIONI UTENTE
Tramite questa funzione è possibile impostare il comportamento della macchina qualora

siano presenti file .INI (parametri SMF) o .TXT (parametri MP3) creati dal Galileo dopo
un’operazione di salvataggio (per maggiori informazioni consultare il par. “SALVARE SU
MEMORY CARD LE IMPOSTAZIONI DEL GALILEO”).
Selezionando la voce IMPOSTAZIONI UTENTE, verrà visualizzata la videata:

IMPOSTAZIONI MODO START
La videata visualizzata selezionando la voce MODO START raccoglie i parametri per

configurare la modalità di esecuzione delle liste e l’attivazione o meno del salto dell’header
delle song.
Questi i parametri presenti nella videata:
• MODO: imposta il modo di riproduzione delle song caricate tramite una lista.
Selezionando SINGOLO, dopo aver caricato una base il sistema attenderà la pressio-
ne del pulsante [PLAY] per riprodurre la nuova song. Impostando invece CONTINUO
la base caricata verrà eseguita automaticamente.
• LOOP: specifica se, raggiunta l’ultima song di una lista, il sistema debba automatica-
mente rieseguirne la prima (impostando SI) o terminare la riproduzione (selezionando
NO).
• SALTO HEADER: specifica se attivare (selezionando SI) o meno il salto dei dati MIDI
antecedenti il primo evento nota o la prima sillaba del testo. Questa funzione offre il
notevole vantaggio di caricare a velocità elevatissima i messaggi di setup della
generazione sonora senza la necessità quindi di attendere la lettura delle prime
misure “vuote” prima di iniziare a suonare.
IMPOSTAZIONI PEDALE
Questa funzione permette di assegnare un comando al pedale di tipo foot-switch even-

tualmente collegato alla presa [FOOT] del pannello posteriore. Per richiamare la videata
in oggetto, selezionare la voce AZIONE PEDALE:
la quale contiene i seguenti parametri:
• AZIONE: impostare in questo campo la funzione che si desidera assegnare al pedale.

Queste le funzioni disponibili:
- PLY-STP: ad ogni pressione del pedale la macchina commuta ciclicamente in Play

ed in Stop.
- PSE-CNT: ad ogni pressione del pedale la macchina opererà ciclicamente i comandi

di Pause (sospensione momentanea della riproduzione della song) e Continue
(ripresa dell’esecuzione interrotta).
• POLARITA’: in questo campo è necessario informare il sistema circa la polarità (N.A.

o N.C.) del pedale collegato:
- -: normalmente aperto (N.A.)

- +: normalmente chiuso (N.C.)
IMPOSTAZIONI DI SISTEMA
La videata IMPOSTAZIONI DI SISTEMA, richiamabile selezionando la voce SISTEMA,
raccoglie tutte quelle funzioni non strettamente legate alla riproduzione delle song, ma
tramite le quale ottenere informazioni di vario genere e configurare le impostazioni
accessorie del lettore.
Le funzioni disponibili sono le seguenti (tra parentesi la relativa voce a display):
• selezione della porta di uscita dei dati MIDI (ROUTER MIDI)

• informazioni relative la memory card inserita e relativa formattazione (INFORMAZIONI
CARD)
• impostazione della lingua (ALTRO…)
• settaggio del modo USB (ALTRO…)
• informazioni relative il firmware attualmente installato (ALTRO…)
IMPOSTAZIONI ROUTER MIDI
Per Router MIDI si intende la possibilità di specificare se i dati contenuti in ciascuna

traccia (a cui corrisponde il proprio canale MIDI) debbano essere trasmessi al generatore
sonoro interno od alla porta [MIDI OUT] presente nel pannello posteriore.
Selezionando pertanto la voce ROUTER MIDI, sarà possibile visualizzarne la videata di

impostazione:

Tramite il campo CANALE potrete selezionare, utilizzando l’encoder, la traccia (da 1 a 16)
di cui intendete indirizzare il contenuto.
Sul campo PORT verrà visualizzata l’attuale associazione. Le associazioni canale-uscita
sono le seguenti:
- INTERNA: i dati relativi alla traccia selezionata sono inviati esclusivamente al genera-
tore sonoro interno.
- ESTERNA: i dati MIDI relativi alla traccia selezionata vengono inviati solo alla porta
[MIDI OUT].
ATTENZIONE!
Si ricorda che selezionando l’opzione ESTERNA per una determinata traccia,

questa non potrà essere suonata dal generatore sonoro interno.
INFORMAZIONI CARD
La funzione INFORMAZIONI CARD permette di essere costantemente aggiornati circa la

capacità complessiva della memory card inserita ed il relativo spazio libero.
Questa videata, inoltre, prevede una funzione di formattazione delle memory card.
Si consiglia tuttavia di formattare le card tramite il computer, dato che questo tipo di
formattazione permetterà di salvare un numero maggiore di file.
Utilizzare la funzione del Galileo qualora la memory card presenti gravi errori per cui il
computer non sia in grado di eseguire la formattazione.
Per richiamare la funzione in oggetto selezionare la voce INFORMAZIONI CARD, il display

visualizzerà la seguente videata:
• CAPACITA’: visualizza, in MByte, la capacità totale della memory card inserita.

• LIBERI: informa circa lo spazio ancora libero, espresso in KByte
Come informa il display, inoltre, premendo il pulsante [ENTER] sarà possibile avviare la
procedura di formattazione della memory card.
In questo caso il display visualizzerà una richiesta a procedere (riportata nella prossima
pagina).

Premere [ENTER] per continuare o [ESC] per annullare. In caso di conferma verrà
visualizzata la videata:
per tutto il tempo necessario a completare l’operazione.
ATTENZIONE!
Tenete presente che formattando la memory card, tutti i dati in essa contenuti
andranno irrimediabilmente persi.
Eseguendo la formattazione tramite il computer, impostare il File System di tipo
FAT.
NOTE
Il tempo di caricamento dei file sarà leggermente superiore in caso di formattazione

della memory card tramite il computer.
Le card formattate con il Galileo saranno nominate “Galileo”. In questo modo,
utilizzando computer Macintosh (no PC), l’icona “Senza titolo” verrà visualizzata
con il nome del lettore.
Qualora il Galileo sia collegato al computer tramite il cavo USB, durante la
formattazione la connessione verrà momentaneamente disattivata per il tempo
necessario a completare l’operazione.
Al termine di una formattazione eseguita con il PC si consiglia di estrarre e reinserire
la memory card dal Galileo.

ALTRE INFORMAZIONI
Selezionando la voce ALTRO… è possibile visualizzare la videata in cui impostare la

lingua per la visualizzazione dei parametri ed il modo USB (per maggiori informazioni
consultare il cap. “LA PRIMA ACCENSIONE”).
Oltre è ciò questa funzione permette di controllare la versione di sistema operativo e

dell’hardware attualmente installato nel lettore.
Questi i parametri visualizzati:
• LINGUA: seleziona la lingua desiderata per la visualizzazione di tutte le videate a

display.
• USB: seleziona il modo USB tramite il quale collegare il Galileo ad un computer.
Questo settaggio dipende dal sistema operativo attualmente installato nel computer,
per cui è necessario impostare:
- NORMALE: in caso di utilizzo di Windows 98 s.e., Windows ME, Windows 2000

- AVANZATO: utilizzando Windows XP
- MAC: utilizzando Mac O.S. 9.1 (o superiore)
• VERSIONE: visualizza le versione del software (prima cifra a sinistra) e dell’hardware

attualmente installati nel Galileo.

IMPOSTAZIONI VIDEO
Come descritto nel cap. “COLLEGAMENTI” il Galileo è provvisto di una presa SCART per
il collegamento di un televisore tramite il quale visualizzare il karaoke ed altre informazioni
riguardanti la song in fase di riproduzione.
Il menu VIDEO, accessibile premendo il pulsante [VIDEO] presente nella sezione SET-
UP del pannello frontale:
raccoglie tutte le impostazioni riguardanti la visualizzazione dei dati sul televisore, e più
precisamente:
• modalità di visualizzazione e dimensione dei caratteri (MODO)

• selezione dei colori (COLORI)
• centratura dello schermo e selezione automatica AV (CENTRO - AV)
Per la selezione delle funzioni utilizzare i pulsanti CURSOR per muovere il cursore e
[ENTER] per accedere alla videata di configurazione.
NOTA
Per una più rapida ed efficace configurazione della sezione VIDEO, consigliamo
di eseguire le regolazioni con il televisore collegato e durante la riproduzione di
una song. In questo modo potrete valutare istantaneamente le modifiche apporta-
te ai parametri.
MODALITA’ DI VISUALIZZAZIONE
Per regolare la modalità di visualizzazione e la dimensione dei caratteri selezionare la
voce MODO nel menu VIDEO.

SELEZIONE DEI COLORI

Ulteriore personalizzazione delle impostazioni video riguarda la selezione dei colori con
cui visualizzare il testo ed i parametri della song sul TV.
Come riportato nei disegni riguardanti la modalità di visualizzazione, le videate sul
televisore sono composte da parametri fissi e testo della song (da cantare, già cantato e
sillabazione). Tramite questa funzione è possibile impostare un colore per ognuna di
queste sezioni.
Per richiamare la funzione in oggetto selezionare la voce COLORI:
E’ possibile selezionare i colori per:
• TESTO: campi fissi, testo della song ancora da cantare, testo già cantato (da sinistra
a destra).
• SFONDO: lo sfondo del televisore.
• SILLABE: il testo della song in corso di sillabazione
ATTENZIONE!
Qualora i parametri o parte del testo non vengano visualizzati sul televisore
controllate i colori impostati in questa videata.
Potrebbe essere capitato, infatti, di aver regolato lo stesso colore per lo sfondo ed
il testo o la sillabazione.

CENTRATURA DELLE SCHERMO E AUTO-AV
L’ultima impostazione riguardante il televisore collegato al Galileo riguarda la centratura
delle videate rispetto allo schermo del televisore e la selezione automatica della modalità
audio-video.
Per accedere alla funzione selezionare la voce CENTRO-AV:
Sono presenti i seguenti parametri:
• CENTRO: tramite questo parametro è possibile selezionare una fra le 16 preimpostazioni

per la centratura delle videate rispetto allo schermo televisivo.
• AUTO AV: selezionando SI è possibile attivare la selezione automatica dell’ingresso
audio video del televisore. In questo modo, accendendo la TV, questa si posizionerà
automaticamente sul canale AV. Selezionare NO per disattivare la funzione.
NOTA
Disattivando l’opzione AUTO-AV sarà necessario selezionare manualmente il

canale AV sul televisore per visualizzare il testo delle song e/o le informazioni
aggiuntive.

APPENDICE
AGGIORNAMENTO DEL FIRMWARE
Il firmware (sistema operativo) del Galileo è residente nella memoria interna dello
strumento. L’aggiornamento a release successive risulta semplice ed immediato.
Assicurarsi innanzitutto di aver impostato la corretta modalità USB, ovvero:
• NORMALE: utilizzando Windows 98 s.e., Windows 2000, Windows ME

• AVANZATO: Windows XP
• MAC: Mac 9.1 (o superiore)
Spegnere quindi il Galileo tenendo premuto per qualche istante il pulsante [STOP].
Collegare ora il lettore al computer tramite il cavo USB ed accenderlo tenendo premuto il
pulsante [ESC] e premendo [ENTER].
Il sistema richiamerà automaticamente la procedura di aggiornamento, visualizzando sul
display:
Tramite il computer ora copiare il/i file nel Galileo, come una normalissima funzione di
copia / incolla. Durante il caricamento dei dati in memoria verrà visualizzata la videata:
A procedura ultimata il display visualizzerà:
Premere ora [ESC] per spegnere il lettore e [ENTER] per riaccenderlo.

ATTENZIONE!
Durante l’aggiornamento ponete particolare attenzione a non interrompere il

collegamento USB o spegnere il Galileo / computer.
Non modificare il contenuto dei file di aggiornamento.
VERIFICA DELLE RELEASE INSTALLATE NEL

SISTEMA
Come descritto precedentemente il sistema informa circa la release del firmware
attualmente installata tramite la videata iniziale e la funzione “ALTRE INFORMAZIONI”
del menu Global.
Tramite il computer è altresì possibile verificare la release del bootstrap e dei preset,
cliccando sull’icona del Galileo quando questo è posizionato nella modalità di aggiorna-
mento (accensione con i pulsanti [ESC] e [ENTER] premuti).
MESSAGGI DI INFORMAZIONE
Il set di videate visualizzate a display si completa con una serie di messaggi atti ad
informare l’utente circa la causa di eventuali funzioni non portate a termine o problemi di
malfunzionamento. Questi messaggi possono essere di informazione o di errore.
In questo paragrafo vengono descritti i messaggi di informazione, visualizzati ogni qualvolta
il sistema non sia in grado di completare l’operazione in corso con i dati presenti nella
memory card attualmente inserita.
CARD PIENA
La memory card non ha più spazio libero

per memorizzare i file al suo interno.
Liberare spazio cancellando eventuali file
inutilizzati o inserire un’altra memory card.
CARTELLA PIENA
La cartella “Radice” permette di salvare al

suo interno un massimo di 512 file.
Qualora si stia salvando un numero di file
superiore verrà visualizzato il messaggio
in oggetto, indicando che è impossibile
eseguire il salvataggio. Liberare, pertanto,
spazio in questa cartella o copiare i file in
altre sotto-cartelle.

IMPORTANT NOTES
• Before connecting the power supply unit to the mains please verify that voltage is the
same as indicated on the power supply unit.
• Handle with care knobs and switches.
• Do not place, if possible, the instrument near units that may strongly interfere with it
e.g. radio, TV sets, monitors, etc.
• Do not place Galileo near to heat sources, wet places, dust or strong magnetic fields.
• Do not place Galileo under direct sun rays.
• By no reasons objects or liquids of any kind should be introduced into the instrument.
• To clean Galileo use a soft cloth or compressed air, never use alcohol, solvents or

• Use always shielded and good quality cables. When you disconnect plugs please use
the connector itself, do not pull cables.
• Before any connection of the unit make sure that all other units (with particular reference
to power amps and speakers) are switched off. You will avoid noisy and dangerous

NOTES ON THE INSTRUMENT

To obtain the best performance, please note and strictly follow the indicated herebelow
instructions.
• Galileo uses only Smart-Media memory card type.
• Be extremely careful with the memory cards; do not place them close to heat sources,
or in wet or dusty environments. Do not touch the metal contacts switch with fingers.
Use the original protection case when memory cards are not inserted into the Galileo.
Files format recommendations:
• Galileo plays only standard MIDI files (extension .MID), files MIDI for Karaoke (.KAR)
and MP3 audio files (.MP3). Files with different extensions will not be shown on the
display.
• In order to be correctly read, the MIDI files must be General MIDI (GM) standard type.
• It is not possible to play MIDI files bigger than 320 Kbytes.

GALILEO BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Voice Systems Galileo is a file player able to play files in the Standard Midi (.MID), Karaoke
(.KAR) and MP3 audio standards. In addition, it allows to play MIDI files containing audio
tracks and MP3 files with karaoke.
The Midifile sound generation is created by a General Midi (GM) card, with a 42
notes polyphony, which provides 393 sounds, Reverb and Chorus effects,10 drum sets
sounds.
By means of the internal video board, Galileo allows to display on a TV screen the song
lyrics, for all file formats Midifile, Kar, MP3™ (coding ID3 Ver.2.00). The output signal is an
RGB with embedded audio.
As to memory cards, Galileo uses the Smart-MediaTM format, in sizes from 8MB to 128MB;
it supports long file name structure (more than 8 characters), as well as folders structures.
When connected to a computer, via USB cable, Galileo is used as a Mass Storage device,
and it is recognized as a removable disk.
Galileo does not needs any particular software for file storage: by a simple drag and drop
operation you may easly transfer data from the computer to the Smart-MediaTM card and
viceversa; everything in a simple and safe way.
The instrument includes a microphone input (with independent Gain and Level controls),
provided with internal effect and two eq sets for each one of MIDI files and MP3 files.
The audio signal is sent also to the SCART plug, in order to connect Galileo to a TV set,
without necessarily connecting it to an audio power amp.
The interface is multi lingual, and together with the graphic display and the data entry
keys, allow an easy use of Galileo.

1. [GAIN]: potentiometer to trim the input gain for the microphone connected to [MIC IN]
plug.
2. [LCD GRAPHIC DISPLAY]: backlit display (122 x 32 pixels) that shows all instrument
settings.
3. [MASTER]: this potentiometer adjusts the Volume level of the signals on the [LINE
OUT] and [RGB VIDEO OUT] back panel plugs.
4. [BALANCE]: balance potentiometer for MIDI and MP3 sources. The LEDs on the side
of the slider show the sources actually active:
• [MP3]: the player is playing an MP3 file

• [MIDI]: the player is playing a MIDI file
Recalling not mixed songs (only MIDI or only MP3) we recommend to place the slider
in the side of the active source or in the middle, since the other source is not active.
In case that MIDI songs contain one or more MP3 tracks, both LEDs will switch on: use
the slider pot to obtain the correct balance between the sources.

5. [MIC.]: this potentiometer controls the microphone output level. The [OVL] LED if it
lighted on indicates the overload (distortion) signal. If this happens, decrease the input
gain with the [GAIN] control, in order to have the LED blinking occasionally.
6. CURSORS section: this section contains, controls the cursors shown on the display
and let the displayed folders run and, more precisely:
• [UP]: it moves cursor up.

• [SELECT]: it moves cursor right. In the main video page it is used for the Dir
function.
• [DOWN]: it moves cursor down.
• [BACK]: it moves cursor left. In the main page, it recalls the Dir function
7. CONTROLS section: instrument general control keys.
• [ON / ENTER]: it is a control which is needed and suitable:

A) to switch on the instrument
B) to load the selected files to be played
C) to select the functions to be displayed
D) to confirm some functions of the instrument which require “ confirmation “
E) to store the modifications which have been made on the presets.
• [ESC]: it is the escaping key to leave a setting procedure without saving the
modifications.
• [PLAY]: play the selected song. When pressed during the playback, it works as
a pause key.
• [OFF / STOP]: stops the playback. By holding down this button for a second,
the Standby mode will be activated.
8. [MEMORY CARD]: insert here the Smart-

Media memory card.
Please insert the card with the metal contact

ATTENTION!
To connect Galileo with a TV set use a SCART cable with all 21 pins connected.

instruments such expanders, electronic drums, etc…

To connect the power supply of Galileo use only the adapter provided with the
instrument. If some problems occur with the original adapter, please address it to
the nearest authorized service point. VOICE SYSTEMS does not guarantee the
instrument if used with other adapters.

1. [PHONES]: 1/4 inch stereo Jack plug to connect headphones. Use only headphones
with a minimum 16 Ω impedance.
2. [MIC. IN]: 1/4 inch Jack plug to connect a microphone. Using this input, on the audio
outputs (but also on the [RGB VIDEO OUT] plug) the signal from both songs and
microphone will be reproduced, reducing the need of using an external sound system.
As stated before, Galileo provides also an internal effect unit, to add depth and spectrum
to your voice.

FIRST SETUP
Once you have connected Galileo to the power supply, the [ENTER] key LED will light up,
showing that the instrument is presently in “energy saving mode” (“Stand-By”).
To switch on the instrument hold down for a second the [ENTER] button, the display will
show the startup video page:
and then the operating system version installed (FIRMWARE REL.):
The contents of the inserted memory card (“root” directory) will be displayed:
If the memory card is not inserted, the display will show:
informing that to proceed it is necessary to insert the card.

LANGUAGE SELECTION
Galileo has a multi-lingual user interface, therefore the first operation to execute is to
select the desired language.
To do this press [GLOBAL],
using the key [CURSOR DOWN] select the SYSTEM field and press [ENTER],
now select MORE:
and, if not, set select ENGLISH for the LANGUAGE parameter.
USB MODE SELECTION
Even if you haven’t still connected Galileo to your computer system, it is a good rule to
setup now the USB mode, to avoid all possible erros during the first connection.
Galileo has three different functional modes, depending on the different operating system
with which it shall work.
The USB mode setup is located in the same video page used for the language selection
(reported above). In the following table are listed all the possible Galileo USB modes:

After having selected the language and the right USB mode press [ENTER] to confirm
the new settings and to leave the setup page. Press [ESC] to abort the operation.
SWITCHING OFF
The Galileo switch off procedure includes also the saving of all internal system parameters.
To switch Galileo off hold down the [STOP] button: the instrument will ask you for a
confirmation:
then press [ENTER] to switch into “Stand-By” mode while, by pressing any other button,
it will switch back to the normal mode.
ATTENTION!
If Galileo is switched off without pressing the [STOP] button (for example by pulling
the power supply cable) all the settings which have been performed by the user
will be lost.

CONNECTING AND USING YOUR
MICROPHONE
Connect your microphone to the [MIC IN] plug on the Galileo side panel. As a first step it
is necessary to regulate the input signal gain to avoid excessive distortions. To do this
proceed as follows:
Set the [GAIN] pot in a middle position and the [MIC] slider pot in the position where you
would like to have optimum volume. Please note that the slider [MIC] controls only the
volume, and it is not responsible for any distortion. At this point, trim the [GAIN] pot so that
the [OVD] LED blinks occasionally while having a loud signal (e.g. shouting).
NOTE
For a better microphone performance we suggest to use a balanced connection.
USING HEADPHONES
To connect an headphone set use the [PHONES] input plug. The system will automatically
detect the presence of headphones, showing on the display the following page:
Use the [DATA ENTRY] encoder, when the main page is displayed, to set the desired
headphones volume.
NOTE
The [MASTER] slider does not regulate the headphones output level.

HOW TO LOAD A SONG
After the power on procedures, Galileo enables automatically the Dir function (that is in
every moment possible to recall by simply pressing [DIR]):

The Dir function is also automatically displayed every time a memory card is
inserted.
This function allows the access to the content of the inserted memory card, to load the
desired song or to program a list.
It is possible to see from the picture above that this video page informs you about the
directory (folder) actually selected. The “root” directory is always selected at the first access
The middle of the display shows the contents of the selected directory (folder), that can
contain other subdirectories (sub-folders), MIDI files, MP3 files, or lists.
For each type, Galileo shows a different icon as described herebelow:

By using the computer, it is possible to create a “tree” of directories (folders) where each
folder can contain itself one or more folders, as reported in the herebelow example:
To navigate inside the directory “tree” and to select the desired file use the following
buttons:
• [UP]: to move cursor up.

• [SELECT] when the cursor highlights a directory: to open the selected directory.
• [SELECT] when the cursor highlights a file: to insert the file in a list
• [DOWN]: to move cursor down.
• [BACK]: to go back to the previous directory.
• [ENTER] when the cursor highlights a directory: to open the selected directory.
• [ENTER] when the cursor highlights a file: to load the selected file (MIDI, MP3 or List)
It is also possible to move the cursor by using the [DATA ENTRY] knob.
When loading a MIDI file the display will show:
for all the time which is necessary to load the data in the internal memory.

When the selected file is ready for the playback, the display shows the MIDI or MP3 “play
page”.

When the [PLAY] button is pressed, the LED will light up and playback of the song will
start.
When the [STOP] key is pressed the playback of the song stops and by pressing [PLAY]
again the playback is it temporarily interrupted and the unit enters a “Pause Mode“ (Pause).
The pause mode is indicated by the flashing [PLAY] LED. By pressing [PLAY] again the
execution will restart from the pause point.
To load a new song, stop the playback by pressing [STOP] and then let the memory card
display its contents using, the [DIR] key, the [CURSOR] section buttons or the [DATA
ENTRY] encoder (only if headphones are not connected) and select the desired song.
To program the next song (that will be played automatically at the end of the current song),
after having displayed the memory card content, select the deired song with the [SELECT]

key (the number “01” will appear near the file name) press [ENTER]. When the display is
back to the main page press [STOP] to execute immediately the new song or wait that the
previous playing will end.
NOTES
It is important to remind that all control and configuration functions are always
accessible, without stopping the playback of a song. In addition to all normal
functions such as volumes and balance, you can control in real time the
modifications on the MIDI files, EQ section, microphone, prepare a list and so on.
To program and playback a song list, please refer to the “List” chapter.
While reproducing a song, either MIDI or MP3, do not extract the memory card to
avoid the interruption of the playback.
When the function “HEADER JUMP” (see chapter “Song playback modes”) is
active, the MEAS. field could not start with measure 1.1 depending of where the
first note is located.
For what concerns the description of the MIDI files containing MP3 files, please
consult the advanced user manual.

CONNECTING A COMPUTER
To copy, cancel, move or rename a file inside the Smart media™ card it is necessary to
connect Galileo to computers using the included USB cable.
During the first connection the computer will ask for the drivers needed for the management
of the USB interface.
The Operating Systems Windows ME, 2000, XP and Mac 9.1 (or superior) are able to
install automatically the required drivers (plug and play feature).
If your system has installed a Windows 98 Second Edition, it will be necessary to install
the drivers from the CD provided with your Galileo.
Hereunder the operations needed to install the drivers are descripted for each O.S.
WINDOWS 98 SECOND EDITION

Switch on Galileo and setup the NORMAL USB mode in the OTHER SETTINGS video
page of the Global menu (for further info see the “FIRST SETUP” chapter).
Switch on the PC and wait until the O.S. is fully loaded. Insert the Galileo CD-ROM in the
PC drive and connect the PC with the USB cable to the Galileo.
The OS will automatically detect the new hardware, identifying type and manufacturer,
and will ask for the needed drivers:
Click on “Next”,

and select “Search for the best driver for your device”. Click again on “Next”:
It is now necessary to select the “CD-ROM drive” and click “Next”. A message box will
display the driver name that will be installed and its path:

Connect the PC with the USB cable to the Galileo. The OS will automatically detect the
new hardware, identifying type and manufacturer:

This icon means that a device with a memory card is connected to the PC and it will be
showed at any connection of the Galileo.

MAC O.S. 9.1 or higher
Switch on Galileo and select the MAC-OS USB mode in the OTHER SETTINGS video
page of the Global menu (for further info see the “FIRST SETUP” chapter). Switch on the
computer and wait until the O.S. is fully loaded. Connect the PC with the USB cable to the
Galileo.
The OS will automatically detect the new hardware, identify type and manufacturer, and il
will install all needed drivers.
When finished, on the computer desktop will appear the “Galileo” or “Untitled” icon, indicating
that the device was correctly installed.
NOTES
In addition to the icon shown on the computer, at every connection (at power-on or
by inserting a new card, etc), the instrument will show:
informing about the succesful connection and the USB mode choosen.
Using a Mac computer and recalling the Dir function on Galileo, on the instrument
display will be shown four folders named “Desktop folder”, “The volume settings
folder”, “Trash” e “—Move & Rename”.
These are system folders that will not be displayed when controlling the contents
of the memory card with the computer.
To extract the memory card from Galileo when it is connected to a Macintosh
computer, it is necessary to select the “Eject” command and extract quickly the
card. This command is available by clicking on the Galileo icon with the C key
pressed.

USE OF A COMPUTER TO MANAGE FILES STORED IN
GALILEY MEMORY
Once installed the necessary drivers to manage the memory card, the use of Galileo with
the computer is very intuitive and simple. The O.S. manages the Galileo as a “Removable
disk” unit.
Clicking on “My computer”,
all devices installed will be shown, including the “Removable disk”.
The “Removable disk” is Galileo. Click on the icon to see immediately the content of the
card.

In case other subdirectories are present just click as usual on their icons to see the contents.
Now you can copy files from the computer to Galileo memory card, erase them or create/
cancel folders.
Of course if a proper program is installed it will be possible to reproduce and listen thru the
computer the MIDI and MP3 files of Galileo.
During any operation with the computer, the monitor will show the relating messages.
On Galileo, the [SAVE] key LED will blink.
Due to the characteristics of some OS it may happen that the “Copy in progress” message
box disappears before the [SAVE] key LED stops to blink. In this case avoid to disconnect
the USB cable and to extract the card until the LED goes off (this because the operation is
still in progress).
COPY OF FILES FROM COMPUTER INTO GALILEO MEMORY CARD
To copy one or more files into Galileo it is necessary to select the files (or folder) on the
computer hard drive, and drag them into the “Removable Disk” icon. Of course it is possible
to use the “Copy” and “Paste” commands (recall them clicking with the right mouse click)
or the C + c and C + v keyobard keys.

ERASING FILES OR FOLDERS FROM GALILEO MEMORY CARD
Select the “Removable Disk” icon, then the desired files or folder. Use “Delete” command,
or the ® key.
CREATING NEW FOLDERS IN THE GALILEO MEMORY CARD
Select the “Removable disk” icon (o a folder stored in it) and use the “New” command (in
the window that can be showed by right mouse button):

then “Folder”.
A “New Folder” will be created. Change the name as desired and press E.
It is possible to create subfolders (folder which contains folders), please note that Galileo
accepts a maximum of 5 levels of sub-folders.
NOTES
Using the NORMAL USB mode, in case of errors using the memory card, the OS
may show up messages not properly related to the error occurred. To know the
exact cause of the error, check the Galileo display and the messages here reported
(for more informations see the “Error messages” chapter).
It is not possible to use more than 512 files in the root directory.
Using a Mac computer, it may happen that, after having inserted a memory card
into Galileo, the icon does not appear on the computer desktop . In this case it is
necessary to extract and reinsert the memory card.
To grant a good management of the memory cards, we suggest to format them
with Galileo (see “Card Informations” chapter).
Using Windows98 SE, after having extracted a memory card which can already
be inside, it’s advisable to wait at least for 7 seconds to insert a new one.

MIDI FILE EDIT FUNCTIONS
Galileo provides some useful MIDI files editing functions, that are available by pressing
the buttons of the MIDI SONG SETTINGS section.
These functions are all on real time, therefore performable during a song playback.
They offer the great advantage to be extremely quick and really helpful to modify a song
while playing it.
These functions are:
- TRANSP: it allows the user to change the key of the selected song.
- MUTE: it allows muting of a track (exclusion of a track).
- TEMPO: it allows to change the metronome tempo.
To recall these functions press the proper key (both in play or stop mode).
The display will show the setup video page related to the selected function: the LED of the
key will start blinking, to show that internal parameters of the function are in editing situation,
but the function hasn’t yet been applied to the file.
Press [ENTER] and the new parameters will be activated: the song will play following the
new settings.
To deactivate the function, press the function key again.
The modifications made as above described, do not change the MIDI data stored into the
memory card, but just the way how they are played back from Galileo.
It is possibile to store the editing parameters of each song: in this case, when a song is
recalled, the user settings will be applied.
Please refer to the “SAVE GALILEO SETUP ON THE MEMORY CARD” chapter.
Plase check also the “SONG PLAYBACK MODE” chapter for other useful information.
NOTE
These functions are not available for MP3 files. Please be careful in using these
function in MIDI files containing MP3 files.
Here below the details of each MIDI SONG SETTINGS function.

TRANSPOSE FUNCTION
This function allows to modify the key of the song being played, in other words to transpose
an exact number of semitones (half tones) on all the tracks (MIDI channels) except the
one containing the drum sound.
This track (normally the n.10, named DRUM TRACK) must not normally be transposed as
this may cause the playing of drum timbres different from those previously chosen or
selected which might interefere with the beat of the musical backing.
By pressing [TRANSP.] the display will show the editing video page:
where the following parameters are reported:
• BIAS: It sets the value of transposition (semitone)

• DRUM TRACK: It sets the drum track which has to be played
After having set up your chosen settings, press [ENTER] to confirm and activate them or
[ESC] to abort the operation. In both cases Galileo will show back the main video page.
To deactivate the transposer function press the [TRANSP.] or [ESC] keys (the led will
switch off). In both cases the display will show the main page.
If you desire to show or modify the transpose parameter when the function is active, press
and hold down the [TRANSP.] button.
MUTE FUNCTION
The MUTE function allows, while playing a song, to reduce the velocity (and therefore the
volume) or completely mute (remove) one or more instruments (tracks) from the playback.
To activate the function press the [MUTE] key, the display will first show the configuration
page:

• CHANNEL: It selects the one of the 16 tracks the mute is to apply to; in other words th
“signals “
• MODE: to select the MUTE mode:
- OFF: it showst hat the track is played the track is played
- HALF: it shows that the track is played at half volume
- ON: it shows that the track is muted
Press [ENTER] to activate the function or [ESC] to cancel the aborted operation.
In both cases the display will show the main video page.
If you wish to check and/or modify the Mute parameter while the function is active, press
and hold down the [MUTE] key.
To deactivate the mute function press the [MUTE] key (the led will switch off).
TEMPO (CHANGE) FUNCTION

The TEMPO function allows the user to vary the metronome tempo of a song being played.
By pressing the [TEMPO] button the Galileo display will show the following video page:
These are the configuration parameters:
• RATIO: It allows you to regulate the variation not in “absolute” tempo, but of a
recalculation percentage, to ensure proportional variation in the performance of the
song, features rallentados or accelerandos. If the ratio is set at 200%, the new tempo
will be twice the original one while if the ratio is set at 50%, the new tempo will be the
half.
• NEW: It displays the new tempo value.
• ORIGINAL: It displays the original tempo value.
Once the desired settings are made, press again [ENTER] to activate them.
If you wish to cancel the new values press [TEMPO] or [ESC].
In both cases the display will show back the main page.
If you wish to check and/or modify the Tempo parameters while the function is active,
press and hold the [TEMPO] key.

THE LIST
The Galileo allows you to create pre-arranged sequences of songs, both MIDI or MP3,
also if stored in different folders. However, when the instrument is switched off these
sequences are lost. To prevent this, these programs can be saved in the form of List files.
To program a LIST, first of all, you have to display the memory card contents by pressing
[DIR]:
Using the [UP] and [DOWN] keys (CURSOR section), move the cursor on the first song
you want to add to the list and press [SELECT].
A small progressive number will be displayed near the file name:
This number indicates the song position inside the LIST.

Execute the above procedure to insert all desired songs, also if stored in different folders.
The “LIST” icon is displayed, informing that a list is being processed.
To deselect a file inserted in a list, it is enough to place the cursor on the desired song and
press again [SELECT].
Once the list programming has been completed, press [ENTER] to confirm or [ESC] to
cancel the selections. If confirmed the system will load the first song:
and will show the main page:

indicating that a List (not a single song), is really running.
Now press [PLAY] and Galileo will start the playback; once the song is terminated (by
itself or pressing [STOP]) the second song will be loaded and played, then the third one
and so on.
By pressing [STOP] for some seconds, it will be possible to stop in a definitive way the
LIST playback.
To verify or edit in every moment the list contents (also during the playback) press the
[LIST] key.
If you need to change the position of a song inside a list, select the desired song using the
encoder knob, and then select the new position with the [UP] and [DOWN] keys.
By pressing [SELECT], the selected song will be removed from the list.
To remove all songs from a list previously programmed, press and hold down the [LIST]
key. The display will show:
press [ENTER] to confirm or [ESC] to cancel.
NOTES
In the PLAY MODE section, you can edit the start mode of the songs programmed
in a list (see also “SONG PLAYBACK MODE”).
The “LIST” field at the top right corner of the display is not shown if the list contains
just one song.
To learn more about the Galileo messages during song playback, please see also
“INFO MESSAGES” and “ERROR MESSAGES”.

SAVING A LIST
To save a previously programmed list press [LIST] and, when the contents is shown,
press [SAVE].
The system will ask for a List name:
Use [SELECT] and/or [BACK] keys to move the cursor and [UP], [DOWN] or the encoder
to insert the desired characters.
To save the LIST in another directory press [DIR] key and select the desired folder.
Press [ENTER] to start saving. During the save process, the display will show:
WARNING!!
Due to the USB interface features,if Galileo is connected to a computer, it will not
be possible to save data into the memory card. In this case the following message
will be shown:
At this point disconnect the USB cable and repeat the saving procedure.
When Saving a list with an already saved, the system will automatically rewrite the
original file.

QUICK FILE SEARCH
Using the FILE ENTRY function, you can search for a specific element inside the memory
card (such as a MIDI / KAR file, a MP3 file, a list or a folder), without scrolling the content
of all the memory card.
Press and hold down the [DIR] key, the Galileo display will show:
Now, using the encoder and the [UP] and [DOWN] keys, insert the first letter of the word
to be found. Use [BACK] and [SELECT] keys to move the cursor and add more letters.
For example, by inserting the “F” letter, Galileo will find all the files which name starts with
“F.” If you already know the enteire name of a file to search, you can insert it complete, so
that the search will be immediate.
Press [DIR] and the system will start the search process:
and it will show the first file found. Press [DIR] again to search the next file.
Press [ESC] to leave the function.
At the end of the search process (no more entry found) the system will display:
Press [ESC] to show again the DIR function.

MICROPHONE EFFECT
As from the description in the introductory side and in the connection description, it is
possibile to connect a microphone to Galileo via the [MIC IN] plug.
The signal coming from the microphone can be controlled with a dedicated effect, similar
to delay, and redirected to the [LINE OUT] and [RGB VIDEO OUT] outputs.
To control this effect press [MIC.] key, in the AUDIO section of the control panel.
The following screen will be shown:
where the following configuration parameters are present:
• LEVEL: it trims the effect level.

• TIME: it sets the repeat duration.
• FEEDBACK: it sets the decay time.
Once the necessary checks are made press [ENTER] to confirm and store the new values
or [ESC] to cancel them.

EQUALIZER
Galileo is provided with two internal equalizers to control the sound generated from the
MIDI tracks and the MP3 files.
The EQ for the MIDI tracks is a two band semi-parametric, while the one for MP3 files is a
two band graphic with anti-clipping system.
To access the two EQ screens press [EQ.] in the AUDIO section on the fromt panel:
MIDI FILES EQUALIZER

As explained above, the EQ for the MIDI tracks is a two band semi-parametric device.
A parametric eq allows both the control of gain into specific frequencies as well as but also
to select the work frequencies themselves.
Before accessing the control parameters select AUDIO MIDI FILE in the previously
described screen. The display will show:
These are the control parameters:
• LO G: it controls boost or cut of low frequencies with a range of ± 12 dB.

• FR.: it set the central work frequency for the LOW EQ in a range from 0 Hz (FR=0) to
4,7 KHz (FR=127).
• HIGH G: it controls boost or cut of high frequencies with a range of ± 12 dB.
• FR.: set the central work frequency for the HI EQ in a range from 0 Hz (FR=0) to 18,75
KHz (FR=127).
Once made the necessary checks press [ENTER] to confirm and store the new values or
[ESC] to cancel.

MP3 FILES EQUALIZER
The MP3 files EQ is graphic, with two bands, allowing the regulation of low and high
frequencies.
In addition it is completed with an anti-clipping system, that is controllable with 3 different
setups, in order to avoid signal saturation.
To access the parameter regulation screen select AUDIO MP3 in the eq selection screen:
These are the control parameters:
• BASS: it controls boost (positive values) or cut (negative values) of low frequencies
with a range of ± 15 dB.
• TREBLE: it controls boost (positive values) or cut (negative values) of low frequencies
with a range of ± 15 dB.
• ANTI CLIP: it sets the anti-clip system modes. The anti-clip reduces the higher signal
peaks: it is possible to deactivate it (select OFF) or set three different attenuation modes:
minimum (MIN), medium (MED) o max (MAX).
Once the necessary checks are made press [ENTER] to confirm and store the new values
or [ESC] to cancel them.

SAVE GALILEO SETUP ON THE
MEMORY CARD
Galileo offers the possibility of saving, for each MIDI or MP3 file, all setup information
collected into the MIDI SONG SETTINGS, AUDIO and VIDEO sections, and recall them
automatically at any time when a song is loaded.
As stated before, these functions are related to the type of file which have been loaded.
Therefore for each MIDI file it will be possible to save:
• All MIDI SONG SETTINGS functions

• Microphone setup
• EQ setup (for the specific MIDI file EQ)
• Video setup
For an MP3 file it will be possible to save:
• EQ setup (for the specific MP3 file EQ)

• Microphone setup
• Video setup
If we are working with a MIDI file containing MP3 tracks it will be possible to select all the
above described options.
In case of saving procedure of MIDI file settings all saving operations will create a .INI file
in the memory card, or alternatively a .TXT file if we need to save the MP3 functions.
For an easier search, these info files will have the same name of the song.
These file can be successively saved and modified with any text editor that you have in
your computer; by this way it will be possible to modify without executing any other saving
procedure.
To save all desired presets first of all load the desired song, then modify the parameters
and press [SAVE] key. At this point the display will show:
SAVE which is a parameter that allows to select the saving options.

composed by a max of 8 characters.
All operations related to the parameter modifications included in the .TXT or .INI
files are listed in the Advanced User Guide.

GLOBAL SETTINGS
By pressing the [GLOBAL] key, in the SET-UP section of the front panel, it is possible to
access to all global settings to setup and customize the instrument adjusting it to your
needs.
These settings will take care of:
• Display contrast setup (DISPLAY CONTRAST)

• Setup of song playback mode (PLAY MODE)
• System setup (SYSTEM)
After having pressed the above descripted key, the display will show the GENERAL
SETTINGS MENU screen (we will name it from now on GLOBAL menu):
To recall a desired function, first of all, select the correspondent field with the [CURSOR]
keys and then press [ENTER]. To trim the value use the rotary encoder.
Once the necessary checks are made, press [ENTER] to confirm and store the new values
or [ESC] to cancel and reset everything and recall the previous values.
DISPLAY CONTRAST
Galileo display has a contrast control in order to obtain the best readability if the user is in
different positions toward the display.
To access to this control select DISPLAY CONTRAST from the Global menu and press
[ENTER], the display will show the screen:
STANDARD mode
that contains the following fields:
• CONTRAST: which shows the display contrast value.

• REVERSE: which recalls the display reverse mode.
Select NO to see the display in standard mode or YES REVERSE mode
to see it in reverse mode.

SONG PLAYBACK MODE
When selecting the PLAY MODE field in the Global menu, the following screen will be

Please note that this screen does not contain programming parameters but a sub-functions
menu, that are used for song playback. These settings are:

USER SETTINGS
Through this function it is possible to set the instruments working when an .INI (SMF
parameters) or .TXT (MP3 parameters) file is present. These files are created from Galileo
after a “Save” operation (for more informations see chapter “SAVE GALILEO SETUP ON
THE MEMORY CARD”).
When selecting SONG USER SETTINGS, the following screen will be shown:

START MODE SETTINGS
The video page that is displayed when selecting the START MODE contains all the
parameters to configure the list execution mode, and the song header skip function settings.
These are the parameters:
• MODE: it sets the playback mode of the songs loaded via a list. By selecting SINGLE,
after having loaded the next song the system will wait a click on the [PLAY] key to start
the playback of the new song. By selecting CONTINUE the next song will be played
automatically.
• LOOP: when the last song of a list has been completed, it specifies if the system will
playback the first song again (by selecting YES) or stop (by selecting NO).
• HEADER JUMP: by selecting YES, it specifies if you may to skip the header MIDI data
(normally they are placed before the first note or the first lyrics letter).
This function has the great advantage of loading at a great speed the sound generation
setup messages without any need to wait for the first empty music measures before
starting the playback.
FOOT SWITCH SETTINGS
This function allows to assign a command to the footswitch pedal conneted to the [FOOT]
plug on the back panel. To recall the screen, select FOOT SWITCH ACTION:

- PLY-STP: which at each pedal pressure Galileo switches from Play to Stop and

and info relating to the kind of pedal which is connected to :

SYSTEM SETTINGS
The video page SYSTEM SETTINGS is displayed when the SYSTEM command is selected,
and it contains all functions not strictly connected to song playback, but for example to
obtain informations or configurate the Galileo accessory settings.
The available functions are as follows:
• MIDI data output port selection (MIDI ROUTER)

• Informations on the memory card and its format (CARD INFORMATIONS)
• Language setting (MORE…)
• USB mode setting (MORE…)
• Installed firmware informations (MORE…)
MIDI ROUTER SETTINGS
Router MIDI intendsto be the possibility to specify if the data contained in a single track (to
which corresponds a specific MIDI channel) must be transmitted to the internal sound
generation board or to the [MIDI OUT] port on the back panel.
Selecting ROUTER MIDI, it will be possible to see the setting screen:
With the CHANNEL command you can select, via the rotary encoder, the track (from 1 to
16) where you want to address the contents.
On the PORT field the actual link will be displayed. The channel-output links are described
on the next page.

- INTERNAL: the data of the selected track are sent exclusively to the internal sound
generator.
- EXTERNAL: MIDI data of the selected track are sent exclusively to the [MIDI OUT]
port.
ATTENTION!
Remember that selecting EXTERNAL option for a specific track, this track cannot
be played from the internal sound generator.
CARD INFORMATIONS
The CARD INFORMATION function allows to be continuously updated with information

regarding the memory card total capacity and the remaining free space.
This screen contains also the format function for the memory card.
It is advisable to format the cards with the computer, because this type of format allow a
larger storage space for your files.
Use the Galileo function when the card has some errors and the computer is not able to
perform the formatting.
To recall the function simply select CARD INFORMATIONS, the display will show the
followng screen:
• SIZE: it shows, in MByte, the total capacity of the inserted memory card.
• FREE: it informs about the free space, in KByte
As displayed, by pressing [ENTER] key, it will be possible to format the memory card. In
this case the display will ask you to provide a further confirmation:

Press [ENTER] to continue or [ESC] to cancel. In case of confirmation, the following
screen will be displayed:
as long as it is required to complete the formatting procedure.
ATTENTION!
Remember that all the data in the memory card will be lost when you format it.
If you proceed to format from the computer, pay attention to preset the File System
as FAT type.
NOTES
The load time will be slightly longer if the card has been formatted with the compu-
ter.
The cards formatted thru Galileo will be named “Galileo”. This way, using a Mac
computer (not a PC) the “No title” icon will be displayed with Galileo name.
If Galileo is USB cable connected to the computer, the connection will be
momentarily disabled during the format process.
When a format has been completed thru a PC, it is advisable to pull the memory
card out of Galileot and then plug it in again.

OTHER SETTINGS
By selecting OTHER… it is possible to see the screen will show where to set the language
and the USB mode (for more informations see chapter “FIRST SETUP”).
In addition this function allow to check the operating system and hardware versions.
The following are the displayed parameters:
• LANGUAGE: it selects the desired language for all display data.

• USB: it selects the USB mode how to connect Galileo to a computer. This setting
depends on the OS installed in the computer, as follows:
- NORMAL: if your computer is Windows 98 s.e., Windows ME, Windows 2000 based
- ADVANCED: if you use Windows XP
- MAC: if you use a Mac O.S. 9.1 (or later versions)
• RELEASE: It displays the software (first number from left) and hardware versions
installed into Galileo.

VIDEO SETTINGS
As described in the “CONNECTIONS” chapter, Galileo is equipped with a SCART plug to
connect a TV set, to display karaoke lyrics and other information regarding the playback
songs.
The VIDEO menu, is accessible by pressing [VIDEO] key in the SET-UP section of the
front panel:
contains all settings related to the TV data display, and more precisely:
• Display mode and characters size (MODE)

• Color selection (COLORS)
• Screen adjustment and auto AV selection (CENTER - AV)
To select one of the functions use the CURSOR keys to move and press [ENTER] to
access configuration screen.
NOTE
To get a quicker and more efficient setup of the VIDEO section, it is advisable to
do the settings with the TV Set connected and during a song playback. In this way
you can see your setting in real time.
DISPLAY MODE
To set the display mode and character size, select MODE in the VIDEO menu.

• MODE: it sets the display mode, actually the karaoke info you want to display on the
TVset. It is possible to select:
- LYRICS: on the screen of the TV set only the song lyrics are displayed.
- MIXED: both lyrics and song information are displayed.

• FONT: it selects the size of the fonts to display on the TV screen.
NOTE
The LARGE dimension is not available when one of the LIST and/or SONG modes

COLORS SELECTION
A further customization for the video settings is the color selection. You can actually choose
the color to visualize text and song parameters on the Tv set.
It is possible to select a color for each of the parameter and the song text (already sung or
to sing).
To recall this function select COLORS:
It is possible to select the colors for:
• TEXT: fixed fields, song text that needs to be sung, song text alredy sung.
• BACKGROUND: Tvset background.
• SYLLABLE: song text in syllable
ATTENTION!
If the parameters or part of the text are not displayed on the screen please check
the screen colors that you have selected. It may happen for example that you
selected the same color both for the background and the text.

SCREEN CENTER AND AUTO-AV
The last setting regarding Galileo connected Tv set is the centering of the screen of the TV
and the automatic selection of the audio and the video modes.
To access to this function please select CENTER-AV:
The following parameters are present:
• CENTER: this parameter allows to select one of the 16 presets to center Galileo display
on the TV set.
• AUTO AV: by selecting YES it is possible to activate the automatic selection of the TV
set audio video input. Therefore when you switch on the TV, it will go automatically on
AV. Select NO to deactivate this function.
NOTE
Deactivating AUTO-AV option it will be necessary to manually select AV channel

on the TV, to visualize the song text and/or the additional information.

APPENDIX
FIRMWARE UPDATE
Galileo firmware is resident inside the internal instrument memory. To update it with more
recent releases is very simple and easy to do.
Ensure to select the correct USB mode, that is:
• NORMAL: for Windows 98 s.e., Windows 2000, Windows ME

• ADVANCED: Windows XP
• MAC: Mac 9.1 (or later)
Switch off Galileo holding for some seconds the [STOP] key.
Now connect Galileo to the computer via the USB cable, and switch it on by keeping both
the [ESC] and [ENTER] keys pressed.
The system will automatically recall the update procedure, showing it on the display:
Thru the computer copy the files into Galileo, with a normal drag and drop procedure.
During the file loading, the system will show:
When the loading is finished, the system will show:
Press now [ESC] to switch off Galileo and [ENTER] to switch it on again.

ATTENTION!
While loading update files, be extremely careful not to switch off either Galileo or
the computer, and do not disconnect the USB cable.
Do not modify the update file contents.
SYSTEM RELEASES VERIFIY

As described above, the system informs about the firmware release actually installed thru
the initial screen and the “OTHER INFORMATIONS” screen in the Global menu.
With the computer it is also possible to verify the bootstrap and preset information, clicking
on the Galileo icon when the instrument is in the update mode (switch on and press keys
[ESC] and [ENTER]).
INFO MESSAGES
The display screen set is completed with a series of messages that we list here.
These messages are useful to inform the user of malfunctioning or other issues (error or
information messaging).
This chapter reports all information messages, normally used when the system is not able
to complete a certain operation with the data on the memory card.
CARD FULL
The memory card cannot load further files.

Create some free space by deleting files
or use another memory card.
DIRECTORY FULL
The root directory can save max 512 files.

If you are trying to save more files this
message will be displayed, and the saving
procedure will not be possible. Create some
more free space in this folder or create and
use a subfolder.

memory card, or because of a system malfunction.
HARDWARE FAULT
There are some errors in the internal

hardware. Please refer to a Voice Systems
Authorized Service for assistance.
WRITE PROTECTED
When the memory card is protected it is

not possible to store any further datas in it;
then remove the protection and repeat the
operation.

ILLEGAL CARD
The memory card inserted is not formatted.

This error can be displayed also when,
inserting a formatted card, Galileo finds
some errors in the main sector. In this case,
try to pull and reinsert the memory card, or
repeatedly switch off and on Galileo.
INVALID FILE
The selected file is not a MIDI, KAR, MP3

file, or has some errors and cannot be
performed.
ILLEGAL ADDRESS
The file memory address is wrong.

Correct the error and make a file copy.
This error can be also displayed when, in
the case of the copy of one or more files,
there is an attempt to load a song while
you are writing it.
FILE TOO BIG
The internal Galileo memory reserved to

MIDI files allows to load files with a
maximum size of 320 KByte each.
This message is displayed when a selected
file exceeds this limit.
READ ERROR
Some errors occur in opening a file.

The file can be damaged. Try to correct the
error executing a copy of the file in the
memory card.
