7. One of the interviewer said that I only know about oil and natural gas so I ll
ask you about transformer oil only ( everyone laughed).. He asked tell me the
properties of oil and types of oil..
8. What advantage does paraffin based oil has over napthalene based oil??
9. What are interpoles ??
10.. What is commutation and how interpoles are connected with armature??
11. Types of fault in overhead lines and how they are different from underground
cable faults??
12. What are the types of renewable energy sources??
13. Is tidal energy being produced in India ??
14. What is hybrid power??
15. How will you integrate solar with coal based plant?

I tried to justify but he stopped me by saying chodo yaar.. Sab sahi batake kya
karoge 1 2 ans galat bhi dene chahiye.. Humari credibility ka sawal h ( every
laughed on that too)
19. You are the eldest son of service class parents.. Wasn't it too risky to resign
and fight such a competition exam?what was your parents reaction??

Apart from 2 3 ques, technical questions were pretty basic but practical.. No
general awareness questions were asked... Overall interview went very well..

Barc interview (selection through online exam)

Interview started in this way-

"So you are 2015 passout, tell me what you did after your graduation?"
[I was GET in core electrical company frm 2015 to 2016 june]
Then they asked me about my job profile, thn why i left my job and what i did after
my job.

So now starts the main technical round n till end they made me play on technical
que only.
1. Tell me about the potentials in the earth grid. ( they provided me with the hind
so to make my ans come exactly in the form which they expect frm the candidate.
Once we get to correct answer now be ready for difficult level que frm the same
topic.
so my que to the same topic was- tell me about how this potential created? (Main
thing is they will not leave the que till you reach to their expected ans or else u
submit yourself, offcourse they will be providing u with relevant hints time to
time to direct to right answer but more the hints they will b providing reduces
your chance of selection.)
2. Draw the graph of protection curve of o/c, o/l, earth fault relay fr 10kw motor,
also draw charac.. of fuse in the same graph.
Draw the graph of torque speed of induction motor, tell about how slip will respond
frm no load to full load, tell what will happen to speed, current when sudden 10kw
load is applied. Tell me about the dynamics of motor during tht time, draw dynamics
graph, what kind of torque exist in motor, tell the equation relating motor torque,
load torquen shaft torque, what will u do to stop crawling of motor, crawing due to
which harmonics, how to overcome magnetising inrush ( thing to b noted here tht
they were not self generating these que, they were catching my mistakes in my ans
frm there they create their que.)
From measurement side , how to measure resistance of bus , then started hint
silsila n deep que.
From control system side they give me G(s) value n asked me to draw its bode plot,
their twisty que on scaling of bode plot, then draw its phase plot again getting
some difficult que on phase plot.
Which material is used in transmission line, i said acsr. They asked me to draw the
acsr n show how steel, copper n alluminium are used.

Asked about family background
• Related to project -What is magnitude of inrush current, How will u measure it.
• tell something about shree cements, how do they generate power, capacity, etc.
(Summer training) , what are the materias used for cement formation.
•what are relays used for Generators
• What are different methods of excitation for Generator
•Explain AVR, draw it's block diagram

GD topic - How online courses have made classroom teaching irrelevant.

GT topic - If u people are setting up 'Dabba wala' system in Delhi NCR, like in
Mumbai, state the problems and how would you overcome

How will you calculate the losses in a transformer ?

16. What is open circuit test ?
17. What is short circuit test ?
18. Whether rated voltage or less or More during SC test ? If rated then What will
be the impact on current value ?
19. Where will you put instrument on 1:1 transformer in short circuit test ?

Types of routine tests of transformer? ( made me draw vector group testing diagram
and derive conditions graphically as it was part of my job)
Voltage regulation?
Impedance of transformer?
Difference between symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults?
Types of breaker and relay testing?
Electrical machines-

Transformer with 3 windings in it,shell type construction, if centre coil made

primary,emf induced in other two coil, If one of the outer coil is made as
primary,then emf induced. Concept of reluctance and formula and meaning of each
terms in it. Then 2 winding xv phasor on no load and full load. Explanation of each
term and different angles involved in it. What if additional 3rd winding is placed
in it. Effect on secondary winding.

Rotating machines- basic requirement for torque production,proof that both fluxes
are stationary wrt each other (analytically or mathematically). Whether phase diff
or relative motion between both the fluxes should exist or not. Concept of
synchronous motor. Difference between rotor of IM and syn motor. Starting and
damper winding concept. Torque speed characteristic of sync motor.

Power system·
ABT (Final yr project)– what is it? Why is it necessary to narrow down frequency
band width . why not deliver power at 46 Hz. NTPC SIPAT lines & capacity. One
specific equipment used in 765KV switchyard. Why reactors are used? Gas based power
plant. KAWAS ntpc . difference between steam turbine and gas turbine. Why gas
turbine has less start up time.·
Insulators, strings ,mutual and self capacitance why come into picture and how to
reduce. Guard ring concept.

Circuit theory·
A 3 phase circuit with one balanced load in star and other load in delta both in
parallel. Find current. star delta conversions.·

Transients. Current source in series with R andC with a switch. Find I after t=0+
when switch closed

Power Electronics

IGBT- describe with structure functioning, safe operating area, curves between i/p
and o/p quantities. Advantage and disadvantage over BJT and MOSFET·

How to get 10MW power at 30MHz frequency from 3 phase 50 hz supply. (Ans: not
cycloconverter with MOSFET but UJT and RF amplifier and many other processes)
