REACTION

RESULTS
BY LIAM KAYROOZ
My hypothesis is; People who have an increase in sport
invested time per week, will have an increase in average
reaction times, in comparison to those who don’t invest any
time at all.

THE AVERAGE REACTION TIME FOR ALL

MY PARTICIPANTS IS A FANTASTIC

was basketball with a whopping 15 votes,

MALES
Out of all participants of my survey we had a
male participation rate of 60% coming to a total
of 52 males! The average reaction times for
males is:

0.357 MILLISECONDS

The chart below summarizes the reaction times

over all of out male participants.

As you can see, our males had a mode of 0.25-

0.30 which is quite fast ranking in at 2 tenths of
a second.

FEMALES
Out of all participants of my survey we had
a female participation rate of 40% coming to a
total of 33 females! The average reaction times
for our females is:

0.431 MILLISECONDS

The chart below summarizes the reaction times

over all of out female participants.

As you can see, our females although having a

faster time than the males also had more
participants scoring lower than the males, also
their mode was also 0.25-0.30 which is on par
with the guys.

TIME SPENT

PER SPORTS!
Lets have a look at the Males first.

22%

Less than 1 hour

3.-4

5.-6

As you can see our males have their
highest majority in less than one hour of
sport invested time per week a whopping
52%, they could be better, lets see how
the females size up shall we.

Now for the Females results

Less than 1 hour

34% 1.-2
37%

7+
9%
5.-6 3.-4
3% 17%

Now thats a bit better! as you can see

our females have their highest majority in
1-2 hours of sport invested time per week,
only by a bit but at 37%, followed closely
but less than 1 hour coming in at 34%.
REACTION
RESULTS VS TIME
PLAING SPORTS!
Now here comes the important part! The part in
which will prove my hypothesis right or wrong!
The way in which I will display this crucial
information, is putting my participants times
together as an average, and putting it against the
time spent, and if the average reaction time
doesn't increase per time spent than well know for
sure weather time spent playing sport has a
positive affect on your reaction time, or not.

As you can see from the graph above

the answer is, that there is no
correlation between time spent playing
sport and reaction time. There may
however be other unknown factor that
comes into place when increasing
reaction time and cognitive ability.
Although the average reaction time did
decrease between 3-4 and 5-6, it turns
out that it increased back up when
going beyond 7 hours of sport invested
time per week
