In 2001 Andrew Khedoori and award-winning designer Mark Gowing founded an independent
record label with a singular aim: to provide like-minded listeners with good music and congruous
design. Inevitably, Preservation Music's groundbreaking packaging and cover art became
essential to the label's evolution. Gowing's intriguing artwork reflects his commitment to
experimentation in graphic abstraction, typography, and photography, all expressed through
effective communication. With an essay by Dan Rule, this first-rate volume showcases the label's
thoughtful, and music-inspired design since 2010, with full-size reproductions of its most
distinctive covers.

Many subway networks in all parts of the world are dotted with stations that are so visually
striking that one may consider them as art galleries. A glowing red cave in Stockholm; a space
drenched in dreamy coloured light in Munich; a station as lushly gorgeous as a palace in
Moscow. Carefully selected from among such flowers of public art blending the best of
architecture, art, and ornamentation, were 36 beautifully orchestrated underground spaces that
function as subway stations around the world.

A revised reprint of Masahiro Anezaki's 'Practical Ornamental Characters and Designs', first
published in 1926, this book reproduces and rearranges the entire archive of characters he
collected and edited. At the outset of the 20th century, long before typesetting and words like
typography and lettering became established in Japan, designers in the commercial art field
carefully drew characters by hand, one at a time, directly onto a variety of media. This included
bills, flyers, signboards, posters, and more. Unlike what is seen in modern typography today,
these handwritten characters contain a wealth of creativity and dynamism, reflective of the
unconventional spirit of the time.

Sasa J. Machtig is one of the most prominent creative forces in Slovenian industrial design. His
best-known and most influential work is Kiosk K67, whose modular design and complex system
of elements represents the very essence both of his larger design philosophy and practice.
Machtig's approach is systemic, with individual products and design strategies consistently
conceived as part of a wider system that can develop, grow and change. According to him, urban
space should not be furnished with individual, self-sufficient objects, but should instead offer open
systems of flexible structures to create active areas that facilitate daily rituals, exchange of
information and the participation of all. The publication reflects Machtig's systemic thought,
interdisciplinary work, concept designs and end products, while showcasing the process of
creation, from first concepts and project variations to extensive research, testing in public space
and marketing campaigns.

Niko Kralj is probably the most famous designer to ever emerge from Slovenia. For six decades
he has been the central figure in Slovene design, developing an astonishing number of products
and building an impressive archive, with records of his professional work in promoting the
knowledge and awareness of design and its importance. Interest in Kralj's output and legacy has
been growing in recent years, and in 2012 an exhibition featuring his work was held at the
Museum of Architecture and Design in Ljubljana. This book is the first English translation of the
catalogue of the comprehensive exhibition, which featured his most important products,
prototypes, and concepts.

In the course of their quarter-century career together, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren have
carved out a surprising identity that pushes the boundaries between art and fashion. In
contrasting romance and rebellion, exuberance and control, classicism and conceptualism, the
Dutch design duo has come to produce some of the most gorgeous imagery of our times. This
large volume explores their concept of "wearable art" and features some of their most
breathtaking and innovative works. It offers an exclusive interview by curator Thierry-Maxime
Loriot with the fashion artists, plus a glossary and rich iconography, with images by leading
contemporary artists and photographers.
