At TIS, we believe it is important that, along with scholastic development, students acquire

values that will make them caring and compassionate human beings as well as learn
essential life-skills. So, along with the assignments, the students are encouraged to do
small deeds of kindness and show empathy towards people around them. For example, you
may help someone to cross the road, wash your own plate after every meal, show a gesture
of kindness to the house help, raise a kitchen garden, find out the names of the trees
growing in the neighborhood, visit the workplace of your parents and most importantly,
spend some time with your grandparents.

Theme: Space Odyssey

Every day we look out upon the night sky, wondering and dreaming of what
lies beyond our planet. The universe that we live in is so diverse and unique,
and it interests us to learn about all the variance that lies beyond our grasp.
This summer break, just dream with your eyes open and let your imagination soar...

Trip to Mars

Our next destination in the human exploration of space will probably be Mars.

Plan Ahead!
Imagine you and your crewmates are planning a trip to Mars. Assume that all your basic needs will
be met by the basic design of the spaceship and the supplies that have already been stored aboard.

1. Decide the list of stuff that you need to carry along, on 19 months
journey to Mars.

2. Fit everything into a 1 – cubic – meter box .Using only a measuring tape,
pencil and paper and Math.

All the items your crew takes along must fit into a box 1 meter wide by 1 meter high by 1
meter deep —in other words ,having a volume of 1 cubic meter (1 m3). (One meter is
about 39-1/2 inches).

3. Find out the volume of each of the items, then add them all up to see whether their
combined volumes is equal to or less than 1 m3(The dimensions will no doubt be given in
inches, so you will need to convert to centimeters or millimeters before calculating the

volume

4. What was the process your team used to decide what to put into the box?

5. What compromises were necessary in choosing the items?

6. Why were the items picked?
7. What items had to be left out?
8. Write the Facts to know for your trip to Mars Eg.
❖ Average distance of Mars from Sun - 1-1/2 times farther than Earth
❖ Length of Mars year - 687 Earth days
SCIENCE

‘THE FUTURE IS NOW ’

Space exploration is the discovery and exploration of
celestial structures in outer space by means of evolving
and growing space technology. While the study of space
is carried out mainly by astronomers with telescopes, the
physical exploration of space is conducted both by
unmanned robotic space probes and human spaceflight.

About 61 years ago, April 12, cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin blasted into Earth orbit, marking the
beginning of the human spaceflight era.
In 1969 Neil Armstrong took his first steps on the surface of the Moon.
Welcome to the 21st-century space race – one that could potentially lead to recycled rockets, 10-
minute space vacations, and humans on Mars!!

NOW...Let your imagination run wild to create a comic strip* with a

storyline including your super heroes , aliens, crazy scientists,
villains.... designing your own space crafts, hi- tech space
stations...... to showcase the future of space explorations. Give an
out of the box title to your comic strip which should have minimum
of 4 sheets to be used on both the sides. Use A4 size colored
sheets .
