Where to access this https://www.google.com/slides/about/
tool (web address)
Brief instructions of 1. Click on ‘Go to Google Slides’
how to use the tool 2. Log into your google account. If you do not have one you will have to
(please number these) create a free account.
3. Under ‘Start a New Presentation’ select your prefered presentation for the
templates available. You will be able to edit these in more detail later.
4. On the left hand side you will see your slides where you can edit each
individual one with your own comments. Those sharing in the
presentation will be able to see who has added and edited what as well as
when it was done.
5. You can add more slides as needed at the top by clicking the ‘+’ button.
It will then ask what type of format you would prefer.
3 SOL/Grade/Content 1.) 11.1 The student will make informative and persuasive presentations.
Ideas for how the tool a) Gather and organize evidence to support a position.
can be used in PK-12 b) Present evidence clearly and convincingly.
c) Address counterclaims.
d) Support and defend ideas in public forums.
Usage: Students will present on a topic of their choosing that can have a
counterclaim. They must then present the counter claims and demonstrate
knowledge on why this opinion exists and what are the logics. For instance a

reading their slides but by knowing what they know off hand while giving the
class a presentation that uses a medium to tell a story.
3.) 11.6 The student will write in a variety of forms, with an emphasis on persuasion.
a) Generate, gather, plan, and organize ideas for writing to address a
specific
audience and purpose.
b) Produce arguments in writing developing a thesis that demonstrates
knowledgeable judgments, addresses counterclaims, and provides
effective
conclusions.
c) Organize ideas in a sustained and logical manner.
TLED 430 Module 3 Collaborative
Assignment

Usage: Students will present on the history of literature focusing on a particular

genre. They will create a historic timeline to illustrate how that genre has
changed over time and what the present day looks like. This requires students to
do research and provide their own readers history on that genre.
4 Positives and 3 Positives
challenges of using 1. Easy to use and familiar to students who have previously used presentation tools
the tool such as Microsoft Office.
2. Allow students to easily combine ideas into one area for easy presentation.
3. Givens students (and professor) ability to see who has contributed and who has not
with edits being made available to view.
4. Is free and does not require students to pay a premium price for a more updated
version.
Challenges
1. Only available for those students who have easy access to the internet. If not then
they are limited to school time to work on presentations.
2. Takes time getting use to if not familiar with making presentations and thus might
require help on the teacher.
3. Requires students to be able to be in the know about who is doing what and when
they are complete with their project so that others will not edit someone else’s
work.

PEER 1’S NAME: Jordan Hoffman (PK-6)

Name of the tool Edmodo
Where to access this www.edmodo.com
tool (web address)
Brief instructions of 1. Go to www.Edmodo.com
how to use the tool 2. Log in or create an account with your email/password.
(please number these) You’ll be prompted to enter your first/last name in the setup.
3. Create your first “class” (I created my account as a teacher
instead of student in order to create my activities from that perspective)
4. There are tabs to the left you can click on to create/assign
groups and also in the center to create assignments, quizzes, polls, or post announcements
for the class/small groups.
Students are able to be added to the Edmodo class with a special code – no account needed.
There is a place for the teacher to add members as well where they can search to add.
3 SOL/Grade/Content 1. 4th Grade SOL 4.1 The student will use effective oral communication skills in a variety
Ideas for how the tool of settings b) Contribute to group discussions across content areas.
can be used in PK-12
- Students could be in small book groups in class and use Edmodo as a platform to
communicate their ideas on each chapters’ events and characters. Most of the time
this is done on pen/paper but can be done on laptops in the classroom if it is quiet
reading time to avoid disruption from talking or even as a homework or over the
weekend assignment. The students can then use ideas shared on the Edmodo
platform to foster oral discussion when their groups meet during class time, and
save time from sharing ideas to focus solely of discussion of those ideas.

2. 5th Grade SOL 5.6 The student will investigate and understand characteristics of the
ocean environment. a) geological characteristics; b) physical characteristics; and c)
ecological characteristics.

- Students can collaborate on Edmodo in a group for Characteristics of the Ocean

Assignment

by going 1-2-3 and assigning students with either the geological, physical or
ecological characteristics of the Ocean to research either online or from their own
notes from class. Students will then share their findings in the group so that those
in other groups can learn from their peers’ research. They can be required to have
3 facts for their topic along with a photo representation as well. Students can also
access this from the library or home to study the topics later on for testing.

3. 3rd Grade SOL 3.10 The student will recognize the importance of government in the
community, Virginia, and the United States of America by a) explaining the purpose of
rules and laws;
- Students can be put into small groups of 5 or so to create student
governments and laws that they find important for the classroom/school
community. They can name their student government and even assign
roles if they’d like. They can collaborate on Edmodo by sharing their ideas
for laws and coming to a list of 10 or so that they feel must be in place in
order for the class, or society, to function properly. They must also be
able to collaborate and explain why they feel those specific laws are
important and tie it back to what they have learned along the lines of
laws in the community/state/country. (ie. Stealing is illegal/don’t steal –
you could go to jail, hurt someone’s feelings by taking their things etc.)
(“No speeding/running in class” b/c Someone could get injured/hurt). The
class will then have a poll on Edmodo to choose which government they
think would work the best for their community by their rules and
reasoning.

4 Positives and 3 Positives

challenges of using 1. Groups can be easily created and managed by the teacher.
the tool 2. Students do not have to have a log in but are able to get in by a teacher created code
which adds to the ease of use for students.
3. Students can also be given assignments and pop quizzes through Edmodo so it is not
only for collaboration but can be used by individuals.
4. It is a safe environment for idea sharing as the class is private and can only be accessed
by student’s with the code and the teacher themselves.

Negatives
1. Students who do not have internet access at home could not use this except for
when at school.
2. It seems like a tool for older students – 3rd grade and up, so it would not be as
easily accessible for those who struggle with reading or struggle navigating web
pages/tabs.
3. Students can communicate with one another but creating documents or projects
would have to be done elsewhere and then uploaded or attached onto the group page.

K-12 Safety Science Grade 6-

In implementing the Science Standards of Learning, teachers must be certain that
students know how to follow safety guidelines, demonstrate appropriate laboratory safety
techniques, and use equipment safely while working individually and in groups.

Safety must be given the highest priority in implementing the K-12 instructional
program for science. Correct and safe techniques, as well as wise selection of experiments,
resources, materials, and field experiences appropriate to age levels, must be carefully
considered with regard to the safety precautions for every instructional activity. Safe
science classrooms require thorough planning, careful management, and constant
monitoring of student activities. Class enrollment should not exceed the designed capacity
of the room.

4 Positives and 3 Positives= 1. It is the most simple tool to use. 2.It gives everyone a place to ask questions
challenges of using and not say a word. 3. No login/user name/ ect. Saves time and lets more learning happen 4.
the tool You could use this tool as a questions only spot, you could do silent review and see if
everyone’s on the same pace, there is endless opportunities.
Negatives= 1. There could be cheating if you used it as a review because you could just
wait on classmates to put their answers. 2. It has no teacher view, so our work and the
students work is all on the same page. 3. Might be over simplified.

DEPENDING ON YOUR GROUP SIZE, YOU CAN ADD OR REMOVE PEER SECTIONS AS NEEDED.
