Grade  Level:  2nd  Grade
Content  Area:  Science

lifecycles  of  different  organisims.
Title  of  Online  Project/Collaboration  Site/Publishing  Opportunity:  Online  Project
URL  of  Online  Project/Collaboration  Site/Publishing  Opportunity:  https://journeynorth.org/
Describe  how  you  would  use  the  Online  Project/Collaboration  Site/Publishing  Opportunity  in
your  classroom:  I  would  plan  to  use  Journey  North  as  a  website  to  chose  a  lesson  from.
Prior,  I  would  have  taught  a  lesson  on    the  topic  of  Earthworms.  Students  will  become
more  knowledgeable  on  the  topic  and  be  able  to  discuss  their  thoughts  about  animals  and
earthworms.
What  technologies  would  be  required  to  implement  this  proposed  learning  activity  in  a
classroom?  Technology  that  would  be  required  would  be  computer  or  tablet.
Describe  how  the  following  features  are  addressed  in  this  learning  experience  (note:  all  of  them
may  not  be  addressed  in  the  project,  but  most  should  be  if  you  are  reaching  a  high  LoTi  Level.):
a. Collaboration  with  peers,  near-‐peers,  mentors  outside  their  classroom  and  often
beyond  their  school:  There  is  a  function  on  Journey  North  that  allows  the  students
to  collaborate  with  one  another.
b. Student-‐centered  learning  and  knowledge  creation  (collecting  original  data  and  or
producing  original  products  as  a  result  of  engaging  in  the  project):  Students  will
collect  data  using  Journey  North  and  put  it  in  a  log  to  report  later.
c. Higher-‐order  thinking:  Students  are  constantly  using  higher-‐order  thinking
because  it  forces  them  to  ask  questions  and  truly  analyze  the  lesson  for
themselves.
d. Students  publishing  their  original  work  to  others  who  will  use/care  about  their
product:  Journey  North  does  allow  students  to  publish  their  work  for  others  to
view.

Bloom’s  Level  of  Critical  Thinking  Required  (check  all  that  apply):

Remembering      Understanding      Applying      Analyzing      Evaluating    Creating
What  Level  of  Technology  Implementation  best  describes  this  learning  activity  and  Why?  Level  2:
Exploration,  because  students  are  exploring  this  website  to  learn  more  about  the  particular
subject  apart  of  the  lesson.
How  could  you  implement  this  proposed  learning  experience  and  still  comply  with  your  district’s
Internet  Safety  and  Student  Privacy  policies?  I  would  first  notify  any  higher  workers  such  as
administrators  and  parents  about  the  project.  I  would  also  educate  students  on  how  to  practice
good  online  safety.
