DISTAL GOAL

I will practice and improve on basic tennis skills (forehand, backhand, serving, footwork) by practicing twice
a week for a minimum for 1 hour, and be able to play a beginners match by August 10.

• Set goal and determine goal intentions
• Establish monitoring process
• Prepare practice schedule (when/where/with who)
• Review resources - friends, family, online
• Set up Weebly portfolio
PERFORMANCE (July 21-August 10)
Week 1: July 21-27 --- Focus: Forehand & Footwork
• Watch various instructional videos including this video
• Practice at False Creek or Van Tech courts – Tentative dates: July 23, July 25
• Write weekly reflection on progress made; what did I enjoy/find challenging? Do I feel ready to move on to the next skill?
• Make any changes to goal if necessary.
Week 2: July 28-August 3 --- Focus: Backhand & Footwork
• Watch various instructional videos including this video
• Practice at False Creek or Van Tech courts – Tentative dates: July 30, July 31
• Write weekly reflection on progress made; what did I enjoy/find challenging? Am I ready to move on to the next skill?
• Make any changes to goal if necessary.
Week 3: August 4-10 --- Focus: Serves & Footwork
• Watch various instructional videos including this video
• Practice at False Creek or Van Tech courts – Tentative dates: August 6, August 7, play game between August 8-10
• Write weekly reflection: Am I able to play a beginner’s tennis match?
SELF-REFLECTION (August 11-17)
• Self-evaluation: Did I improve in tennis? Am I satisfied with the outcome?
• What did I enjoy about this process? What were some of my strengths and challenges in learning tennis?
• Will I continue on this journey? If so, what is my next tennis goal?
