Algebra Syllabus

Hello and welcome to class! My name is Ms. Wardlow and you get the privilege of having me as
your mathematics teacher. Over the course of this year you will learn many different concepts,
procedures, and techniques that will help you enhance your math skills. Hopefully you are able to enjoy
the topics and learn something new each and everyday.

Materials needed for class EVERYDAY Classroom Expectations


3-ring binder 1. Be on time and prepared for class.
Pencil 2. Respect others.
Calculator (not required) 3. Try to do your best and help others do their
Notebook or looseleaf paper best.
Book 4. Respect school rules.
Chromebook

I expect all of you to put forth your best effort. I will always be willing to help you overcome any
obstacles that might stand in the way of your learning. If you have special circumstances for learning
then please let me know so that I can help you be successful.

Classroom Procedures:
1. Entering the classroom at the beginning: Get out all necessary materials, be seated in your assigned

seat when the bell rings, and then begin to work quietly on the warm-up.

2. During class time: You are expected to listen to the teacher’s instructions, participate, and work on the

assigned classwork the entire class period.

3. Leaving the classroom at the end: You will be dismissed when all classroom materials are put away,

all garbage is picked up, and all students by their assigned seats.

4. Passes: To leave the classroom you will need a pass from me. Please take care of using the restroom

before coming to class. I will not give out passes the first or last 15 minutes of class.

5. When you forget supplies: Ask a classmate or myself to lend you the supply you need. Pencils are

always kept in the red cup on my desk.

6. Asking a question in class: I am happy to help you learn in whatever way I can! Raise your hand if

you have an idea to share or a question. I am also available outside of class by appointment if you

would like extra help.

Standards –
Every one of our class lessons will be based on a daily learning objective. These learning objectives will
fall into one of four Course Standard Domains shown below:
 Operations  Graphing Equations
 Solving Equations  Modeling and Structure
These four domains will help you and I determine your strengths in this class as well as areas to grow in.

Using these 4 Domains will help us gain a more accurate picture of how you are doing in this course.
I will use two styles of assessment to learn more about your progress in this course:

FORMATIVE SUMMATIVE

 will not factor into your grade  These will primarily consist of chapter
 will help me determine what needs to be tests, unit tests, and the final exam
retaught, or areas I can help you improve  Summative assessments will determine
 consists of homework, small quizzes, exit your grade
tickets, warmups, etc.  Can be retaken
 Scored by learning objective on a 0-4
scale.

Your final grade in this course will be an A, B, C, D, or F. It will be determined by how you performed in
your Standard Domains.

Letter Grading Rubric

Retake Policy- Retakes will be offered for summative assessments.

Please be ACTIVE in your learning. Seek out help to your questions when
unsure (not just answers), participate in class discussions constructively, and
complete your homework consistently. I am going to make you think through the
process of finding the answer.

Also, this is your first assignment. Take this packet home and go over it with your parent or
guardian. Once all of you have gone over all of the expectations and feel that you have a good grasp of
them, leave your signature where specified below. Then detach the bottom portion of the sheet and return
it to me no later than: Monday, September 12, 2016 @ class time. Thank you.
