QUESTION 2

For the past 50 years, human activities that include the burning of fossil fuels have increased
at an alarming rate. The result has been a build-up of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse
gases in the atmosphere. Global warming is the average temperature of Earth has increases
since 1950 until now the temperature continuing increasing. Nell Greenfieldboyce (2017)
found out that in 2016, the earth experienced its third consecutive hottest year since
recordkeeping began. Global warming are causes by natural events and human that are
believed to be contribute to increase in average temperatures and measures should be taken
by the government as well as an individual.

Industrial revolution is one of the cause which lead to global warming. Industrial have been
using fossil fuels for power machines. Everything that we use is involved in fossil fuel.
Besides industrial, transportation such as cars is also releasing carbon dioxide from exhaust.
From United States Environmental Protection Agency website title Sources of Greenhouse
Gas Emissions (2017), transportation is responsible for 265 of US, CO2, and emmisions.
Rebecca M. Henderson (2017) in her articles, stated that moving away from fossil fuels will
decrease the greenhouse gases and keeping it in the atmosphere below 450 ppm.

Next is the most common issue that is deforestation. Deforestation is a human influence
because human have been cutting down trees to produce papers, wood, build houses or more.
If human continuing deforestation, carbon dioxide will concentrate in the atmosphere because
trees can absorb carbon dioxide from atmosphere. Thus, human breathing that release carbon
dioxide will stay at the atmosphere. According to a research done by The Statistics Portal
(2017) of 1000 respondents in United States, 45%-60% of the respondent aggreed that the
world’s climate is changing as a result of human activity. This research shows that the biggest
causes to the global warming is human activity.

Global warming is a serious issue that should not be overlooked by individual and
government. A quick measure should be taken to control the effect of global warming to the
country. The AAAS Climate Science Panel (2014) stated that, higher temperatures increase
the possibility of heat-related injury and death. Meanwhile, according to research conducted
by the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health, the extraction, transportation, processing
and combustion of coal in the U.S cause 24 000 excess lives lost annually due to lung and
heart disease. Thus, the government shall enforce strict law againts illegal loggers and focus
to the improving the quality of forest in Malaysia. As for individual, we should aware the

danger as impact of global warning, thus reducing activities which can lead to global
warming such as open burning and so on.

As the conclusion, global warming is a serious issue to the world nowadays. The
phenomenon of global warming is an extremely serious matter. Not just hype as many claim.
The scientific evidence of increased greenhouse gases, melting ice sheets and rise in sea level
are undeniable facts. If we don’t do something to prevent this from increasing, our entire
civilization is at risk.
