context This lesson has the aim of researching corruption as a social issue and for
students to develop a position on this problem and learn how to object to it.
pre lesson The teacher must research relevant literature on the topic and find relevant
preparation cases in the home country and give as examples (law, legal sanctions, case law
: etc). The teacher must make connections to the proper institutions and inform his-
or herself about the ways to fight corruption. Based on the research and
preparation, the teacher forms groups of students (4-5). The groups must research
the different types of corruption and present them in front of the class. I
recommend for students to research where in the society corruption is most
widespread.
ICT The students must research web information (from proper sources like the
resources: websites of national institutions, European institutions, NGO), different laws that
are connected to the topic. The groups should also make PowerPoint
presentations with the most important information about their group work. Another
option is to present short videos with interviews with prosecutors, judges,
investigating journalists etc. with their view on the point and their experience.
CFEC Students should learn to be active members of society. Students should also
competenc develop intolerance for corruption and learn how to act if they witness this negative
es and phenomenon. Students will also develop analytical and critical thinking. They also
other will develop their oral skill and ICT competences (by making presentation and
competenc short videos).

evaluation The first lessons has the objective of explaining the importance of the topic, giving
and general view on the subject, forming groups of students and giving the group
assessmen projects. The groups have a week to research the topics and make their
t presentations. In the second lesson the students must give their presentations and
show their videos. After that there should be a discussion on the research and
presentations. At the end the students must come up with a plan how to react if
they witness corruption.
This theme can also be discussed in 3 lessons. In the third lesson the teacher or
the students can invite a respected judge, prosecutor, journalist or politician to
speak on the topic. For the first part the person should introduce his- or herself,
speak about their job. In the second part of the lesson the students must ask
relevant questions. After that there should be a discussion about the negative
effects of this social phenomenon. As this is the final part of the lesson, the
students will by now have researched the topic, analyzed it and formed an opinion
and they can discuss it more in depth.
