 A. Background

Bodrex drugs and chemical compounds listed in the pharmacopoeia .Medicine drugs on the

market to consumers in a time that is quite long. In that time, it is possible levels of active

ingredient in the preparation has decreased. For that perluadanya determination of the active

compounds in the sample, so dapatmenjamin that levels of drug present in the preparation is

consistent with the requirements of such levels in his monograph respectively

B. Problems

The composition of the flu and cough medicine (Bodrex) one of which contains caffeine.

Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant that can exhibit certain properties such as

stimulation of the heart, diuretic, and smooth muscle relaxation. Consuming too much

caffeine can cause restlessness, difficulty sleeping, and heart palpitations. Caffeine can

also cause addiction. If you consume more than 300 milligrams (mg) of caffeine

anhydrous health conditions that can cause caffeine into xication. It can Affect a person's

ability to drastically reasoning, and cause nervousness, rambling speech patterns, muscle

twitching, and agitation. Overdose can cause mania, disorientation, hallucinations, and,

in serious cases, lead to psychosis. Deaths by the caused by consuming excessive caffeine

rare. Maximum limit that Humans can consume caffeine as much as 10 grams per person

and if it exceeds the limit will lead to death.

According to Ansel (1985), a drug is a substance used for the diagnosis, reduce pain, and treat

or prevent disease in humans. in drug dosage form is divided into Solid, Gas, Liquid, Semi

Solid.Capsule.Bodrex included in tablet dosage. tablets are solid preparations containing

ingredients with or without fillers. additives for tablet serves as a filler, developers, binders,

lubricants, and wetting or other suitable functions.Bodrex is one brand of migraine headaches

that can be purchased freely in Indonesia.composition is Paracetamol 350 mg Bodrex,

propyphenazone 150 mg, 50 mg of caffeine.Bodrex can relieve flu symptoms such as fever,

headache, nasal congestion and sneezing with a cough.One drug composition Bodrex harmful if

consumed in excess is caffeine.Caffeine in Bodrex drug serves to give the effect of strengthening

the ability of the analgesic.Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant that can indicate

certain properties such as stimulation of the heart, diuretic, and smooth muscle relaxation.

homogenized H2SO4 add 5ml and 20ml KI into erlnmayer later in the titration flask with

Na2S2O3.5H2O supplemented with 4 mL of KIO3 and 25 mL of alcohol

3. Procedur

The first step is crushed tablets Bodrex until smooth.Then weigh less than 1 gram, then

enter in 100mL Erlenmeyer flask.After that the mortar washed with alcohol, then pour

into the flask until the volume of alcohol that is inserted into the flask was 25 mL.And

then Erlenmeyer in homogeneous right for 10 minutes.Then add 25% H2SO4 by 5 mL, 20

mL of 10% KI solution into the Erlenmeyer flask and then the solution was shaken for 10

minutes.Then heated to boiling erlenmeyer and titration with cooled with

Na2S2O3.5H2O equipped with 4 mL of KIO3 and 25 ml of alcohol .

F. Result and Discussions

based on the discussion of our group, that in there Bodrex drug caffeine content will be

dangerous if consumed more than 300 mg for health.

G. conclusion

so the levels of caffeine contained in Bodrex tablets (1.343 ± 0.379)%.
