Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

This lesson would address multiple factors of the Universal Design for Learning because it allows the students
to have multiple means of representation through the use of the software timeline. There are may different
aspects that the students could be involved in, they have to research either online or in books about the
different topics, come up with designs, pictures and descriptions to make the project one of a kind. There are
also different ways that could allow for students to have access to the tools they need to be successful with
the project.

Lesson idea implementation:

The teacher will introduce the topic that they have been covering, The American Revolution. They will discuss
how there are different factors that went into the Revolutionary Movement in America. The teacher will give
a list of specific things that the students need to research and place on a timeline. The students will be placed
in groups of four to work on this project where they will work together to create a timeline using the timeline
feature powered by ReadWriteThink. The project will be something that the students are working on for
about 45 minutes for a few days. They will first start by researching all of the information about each of the
topics. Then they will condense and put them in order. Lastly they will use Timeline to create their finished
product. They will display their findings to the class.
The students will be given guiding questions to help them to think about what is most important about each
of the events that are on the timeline. The teacher will be walking around asking questions and clarifying any
misconceptions that the students may have. The lesson will be concluded by sharing the order of events that
led up the Revolutionary Movement in America as well as answering questions that the students might still
have.

Reflective Practice:
As a result of this lesson the students would be able to work with different kinds of software to create their

timeline, as well as learn how to work with other students to achieve a common goal. One way that this could
extend for students is to have them come up and each group share over one of the topics using the
SmartBoard or Expression board to show their understanding of the materials.
