Student Response and Assessment Tools

Lesson Idea Name: Shapes, Shapes, Shapes

Content Area: Mathematics
Grade Level(s): Kindergarten
Content Standard Addressed: MGSEK.G.2: Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientation or overall
size.

Technology Standard Addressed: 3. Knowledge Constructor: Students critically curate a variety of resources
using digital tools to construct knowledge, produce creative artifacts and make meaningful learning
experiences for themselves and others. Students: a. plan and employ effective research strategies to locate
information and other resources for their intellectual or creative pursuits.

Selected Technology Tool:

☐ Socrative ☐ iRespond ☐ Quizlet ☐ Plickers ☐ Kahoot! ☐ Office365 Forms
☒ Other:
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:

☒ Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☐ Phone ☒ Tablet (such as iPad)
☐ Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Type of session:
☒ Teacher-Paced ☐ Student-Paced
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):
☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☐ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

 Supports ELL students
 Supports visual learners
 Supports auditory learners

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity. The instructional activities that will occur prior to the student response activity will be
getting accustomed to using Nearpod. I will show students an example of Nearpod that doesn’t have a quiz.
This is also how I will introduce the Student Response Activity.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☒ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity: Students will watch a short video about
shapes, then practice drawing certain shapes. The teacher will monitor the students individual progress and
offer help when needed. Materials needed are computers or iPads for each student. The activity will last
about 45 minutes.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10): Work
sample provided in Weebly

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not? I will pre-select correct answers to all of the questions so students can receive direct
feedback.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity? The students will ask any questions about shapes to
clear up any misconceptions.

How will the data be used? Students will show the teacher if they understand how to classify certain shapes.
Their answers on the Nearpod will be used as a formative grade. Data will be used to reteach shapes if
needed.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. I am trying a teacher paced activity but student driven
and more collaboration. This will allow my students to become more comfortable using technology.

Reflective Practice: I feel the activities I created could impact student learning because it involves technology
and collaboration. This could also introduce shapes (2D and 3D). Other technology tools that could further
enhance this project could be Kahoot.
