The entire assignment can be performed using the simulator feature of RC-Studio, or a live
MACH-Pro series controller can be used. In either case, use your last name for the system
name, file name and panel name. After completion, copy the entire job directory into a Zip
File and email it to erehn@reliablecontrols.com or nwilson@reliablecontrols.com. A
graphic of the system described below is included on the training CDROM under the
training folder under graphics. The name of the file is AHTH.png. Copy this graphic into the
PIC folder of your job directory when you're ready to annotate your assignment.
Execution
1.1 Air handling unit AHTH shall run continuously during programmed
occupied hours as determined by an operator adjustable BACnet
schedule. The initial program shall be Monday to Friday, 07:00 am to
05:00 pm. Provide a BACnet calendar pre-programmed with the first
year of statutory holidays.
1.2 AHTH serves a large, open production floor. Provide three temperature
sensors where shown on the floor-plans, labelled AHTH-Rm100A,
AHTH-Rm100B, and AHTH-Rm100C. Monitor and record the minimum,
average, and maximum room temperatures.
1.3 Exhaust Fan EF-1 removes heat and fumes from a large oven in the
middle of the production floor. A manual switch mounted near the
exhaust fan is wired directly to an input of the DDC system, and is used
by the operator to turn EF-1 on and off. EF-1 may be operated outside of
normal working hours. Whenever EF-1 status is proven, AHTH shall start
if not already running, and the minimum damper position of AHTH shall
be set to 50%.
APPENDIX L
1.4 During programmed occupied hours, or whenever EF-1 is proven ON,
the AHTH supply fan shall start and run continuously. The return fan
shall be software interlocked to run whenever the supply fan status is
proven. Install a current transformer on the power leads to all three fan
motors, and display both amp draw inputs on the system graphic.
Create a fan status variable for each fan based on the current
transformer input.
1.5 During occupied hours, and with supply fan status proven, the heating
valve, mixed air dampers, and cooling valve shall modulate in sequence
to maintain the supply air temperature at set-point. Use purely
proportional control loops to modulate these devices. The supply air
temperature setpoint shall be reset according to average of the three
room temperature sensors, as follows:
1.6 Monitor the return, mixed air, supply air, and outdoor air temperatures.
1.7 After supply fan status is proven, the mixing dampers shall ramp open
over five minutes. The damper ramp rate shall be 1% every three
seconds. After five minutes, the dampers shall modulate according to
the supply air control loop, while maintaining a minimum percentage of
outdoor air (25% if EF-1 is OFF, 50% if EF-1 is on). The mixing dampers
shall revert to minimum position whenever the outdoor air temperature
exceeds 22 oC (72 oF).
1.8 Whenever the supply fan status Is proven, the heating coil pump shall
run if the outdoor air temperature falls below 10 oC (50 oF), or if the
heating valve position exceeds 10%. Assign suitable switching
differentials to prevent these devices from short cycling.
fully closed.
MANUAL
1.12 The control system shall automatically generate system alarms for
failure of any fan, low minimum room temperature, high maximum room
temperature, high pressure drop across filter, and tripping of the low
limit thermostat.
