COUNTY OF PICKENS

www.co.pickens.sc.us

July 18, 2018

Dear Property Owner,

Due to improvements in technology, the legal boundary line between Pickens and Anderson County is now
located in your area with increased accuracy and precision. You are receiving this letter because at least a
portion of your property is located within Pickens County as defined in S.C. Code Section 4-3-440 et seq.
Pursuant to Article 12 of the South Carolina Code of Laws, Pickens County is required to provide a uniform
assessment of taxes for all real property located within the county. The parcel referenced in the attached Notice
of Valuation will be taxed for the 2018 tax year, with bills mailed out in late September. Please review this
Notice for further information, including your legal appeal rights related to this assessment.

Property tax exemptions (Legal Residence, Agriculture, Homestead, etc.) do not automatically carry over to the
new taxing authority per new S.C. Code Section 12-37-140(E) which states: “Taxpayers affected by the
boundary clarification must apply for all property tax exemptions, special valuations, and special assessment
ratios in accordance with and by the dates specified in South Carolina law.” If your property meets the
qualification requirements for Legal Residence exemption, please complete and timely file the appropriate
exemption form enclosed with this mailing. Note that Mobile Homes in Pickens County are required to be
permitted and registered with the Building Codes Department. A copy of the Mobile Home Title will be
required for this permit.

Note that if this property is your primary residence, the clarification of the boundary line may result in the need
to change your driver’s license, vehicle registration and/or voter’s registration. Contact information for these
agencies is included in this mailing for your convenience. We have been assured by the School Districts of
Pickens County and Anderson County that they will coordinate with each other so that any and all school age
children may remain in the school and district they currently attend.

If you have any questions in reference to the mapping of this property, please contact the Pickens County GIS
Mapping Department at 864-898-5876. For questions regarding assessment valuation, legal residence and
agricultural exemptions please contact the Pickens County Assessor’s Office at 864-898-5872. For questions
regarding Homestead exemption please contact the Pickens County Auditor’s Office at 864-898-5895. For all
