The Purpose of this assignment;

By completing this assignment learners will understand management principles and their application to the
construction and built environment sector. In essence, the learners will be able to apply principles of
management related to civil engineering. Moreover, the learners will be able to gain understanding of how
these principles applied to day to day management of construction projects through application of recognized
management techniques.

Assignment scenario:
The Managing Director of your construction company is very keen to apply appropriate management
principles and techniques in his company so that his company will have a competitive advantage over its
competitors in terms of quality, cost and time. Hence, he wants to implement the appropriate management
principles and techniques that will be adopted by his technical and professional staff. Assume your role in the
company as a Construction Manager and you have been requested by the Managing Director to look into the
possibilities of application of management principles and management techniques to improve the efficiency
and effectiveness of the company’s construction contracts. As such, you have been asked to carry out the
following tasks to test your knowledge and understanding of the application of management principles and
techniques in the construction and the built environment.
