Field Work Practice (FWP) was held on March 12 until March 25, 2018 at Balai Besar
Inseminasi Buatan Singosari, Malang, East Java. The purpose of doing Field Work Practice
(FWP) to meet the requirements of final project. Benefits obtained are able to gain insight
directly about the prevention and treatment of diseases and knowing the types of diseases that
attack the superior male in Artificial Insmination Center (AIC) Singosari.
The material used in field work practice is 18 Friesian Holstein Cow at Artificial
Insemination Center of Singosari which is used as an object of observation and recording of
disease attacking Friesian Holstein Cow. The tool used is a thermometer to measure the male
body temperature, stationery to record the data obtained, camera as a tool of documentation
activities. The method used in the preparation of the final task is to compare the results of field
observations with existing theories.
Balai Besar Inseminasi Buatan Singosari is located in Toyomarto Village, Singosari
District, Malang Regency, East Java. Artificial Insemination of Singosari is the Technical
Implementation Unit (TIU) of the Directorate General of Animal Husbandry and Animal
Health which handles the marketing and monitoring of superior male cement quality and the
development of artificial insemination. Artifical Insemination of Singosari has been able to
produce frozen semen from the cow nation (Limousin, Bali, Ongole, FH, Madura, Angus,
Brangus, Simental, Wagyu) and goat (Etawa descent, Senduro, Saanen and Boer). Number of
male population in BBIB Singosari is 236 tails. Efforts are made to safeguard the health of
males and prevention of disease at the Center for Singosari Artificial Insemination is to conduct
daily health control, biosecurity which consists of sanitation, isolation and disinfection,
ectoparasite control, nail cutting, treatment of diseases that include the provision of medication
of worms and vitamins.
The conclusion obtained that the handling of male health conducted in Balai Besar
Inseminasi Buatan Singosari is good and in accordance with operational standards applied.
Handling actions include prevention of disease and treatment of disease in the male. The
disease that often attacks the superior male Friesian Holstein Cattle is Laminitis and Traumatic
disease.
