DATA ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION
The responses of the questionnaire were analysed in percentages. The responses of the subjects
were converted into three point scale from five point scale as given in the questionnaire in which
strongly agree and agree were considered as an agreement with the statement, while disagree and
strongly disagree were considered as disagreement. However, undecided responses were kept as
they were. Thus three point scale showing agree, undecided and disagree was evolved.

The above table indicates that 80 percent of the subjects agreed that participation in sports
enables the young generation to keep away from drug and alcoholism, whereas 13.33 percent of
the subjects disagreed with the statement. 6.66 percent of the subjects have not expressed their
opinion in favour or against the statement.

The above table reveals that 77.77 percent of the respondents agreed that sports impact on the
youth is favourable for their development. 6.66 percent of the respondents disagree to the
statement while 15.55 percent of the respondents opined neither in favour nor against the
statement.

sports places on competition causes more harm than good. 26.66 percent of the subjects disagree

society. 20 percent of the respondents disagreed with the statement whereas 4.44 percent did not

the statement that sports keeps the youth away from the religion, whereas 57.77 percent of the
respondents disagree with the statement. 8.88 of the respondents were neither in favour nor

The above table reveals that 73.33 percent of the respondents agreed that sports participation or
involvement modifies individual’s attitudes and beliefs whereas 15.55 percent of the respondents
disagree with the statement and 11.11 percent of the respondents did not opine in favour or
against the statement.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS
Percentage analysis was applied in each question in order to compare the pattern of responses in
three groups viz. physical education personnels, parents and students.
Based on the results of the study, the following conclusions may be drawn :-
1. The physical educationalists are of the opinion that sports have a positive impact on the
Indian society with regard to socio-cultural, political and religious aspects.
2. The respondents are of the opinion that sports are of immense benefit for the well being
of our society, ithelps youngsters to keep away from drugs and alcoholism and also
enables them to become good citizens.
3. The physical educationalists, parents and students have expressed that sports teach them
respect for authority, develops self discipline and builds personality of the participants.
5. The respondents have favoured the view that sport is a very strong socializing force and
develops international understanding.
6. The respondents have opined that religious factors do not interfere with sports
participation.Majority of them expressed their views that sports contribute to elimination
of religious discrimination on the ground of race, caste and colour.
7. It is also concluded that participation in sports helps an individual for preparation in life
through participation and adjustment in the society.

SUGGESTIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS
In the light of the conclusions drawn, the following recommendations are made :-
1. The socio-cultural, political and religious factors which help promotion of sports be
strengthened and those hindering promotion and progress of sports be modified or if
possible completely eliminated.
2. A historical survey of the development and relationship between sports and politics may
be undertaken, because some of the blocks have influenced sports participation directly
or indirectly.
3. A survey may be made to find out the various motivating factors which inspire various
needs of state/communities to promote sports at higher levels.
