Communication Cable
You MUST use a Fanuc specific Null Modem or Kfloppy cable.
Do not use a standard 25-pin PC communication cable.
Fanuc uses pin 25 to supply 24VDC to power the external devices connected to the RS-232 port.
Same as old Fanuc CNC punch port cable, Fanuc America part number…..
Fanuc Robotics Kfloppy cable part numbers are:
EE-0989-669-001 6ft
EE-0989-669-002 12ft
EE-0989-669-003 ??ft
A much less expensive aftermarket cable alternative is FC0904001-10 made by Machine Tool
Services. It is 10ft in length. The web page is http://fanuccables-store.com/rs232null.html
To build a cable, the pinout can be found on page 7-5 in the manual or on the web.
Setup
Communication protocol is 9600, N, 1
Speeds above 9600 Baud may work sometimes but can produce errors.
Make sure the port in Port Settings matches the port that the Kfloppy cable is plugged into. If you’re
using a USB-to-Serial converter, use Device Manager to verify which port it’s assigned to.
Turn off “Logging” in setup. If left on, Kfloppy will insert a log file after every event in every
directory it happens to be in.
Enable “Large Transmit Buffers RJ Robots only” in the Emulator Settings. This will speed transfers
slightly in R-J and newer controllers.
Directories
When first opened, Kfloppy sets the default directory as the directory where Kfloppy.exe exists.
When inputting a directory, Kfloppy does not understand spaces in the directory path.
Make sure directories don’t have spaces or …
You can fool the Kfloppy/DOS requirement of an 8 character or less directory name by typing in the
first six characters followed by ~1.
For example: /DIEC RJ2 Tester Backup/ can be entered as /diecrj~1/
Press ‘Enter’ to enter the directory change, then press ‘Enter’ again and verify entered path was
accepted, then ‘Enter’ again.
When leaving the emulator to change a directory, press ‘Enter’ to exit the emulator, press ‘Enter’ again
to go to the still highlighted “Change Directory”.
