1-WHAT’S THE PONT OF…? or WHAT’S THE POINT IN…?

De qué vale..? De qué sirve…? Cuál es el punto de…?

Cuando a esta expresión le sigue un verbo en infinitivo, éste se expresa en gerundio, añadiendo la
terminación “ing”. Ya sea que se utilice “in” u “of” se debe poner el verbo en gerundio, ya que
ambas son preposiciones, y si les sigue un verbo infinitivo, en inglés se debe expresar siempre en
gerundio.
Ejemplos:
- De qué vale vivir? Cuál es el punto de vivir?
What’s the point of living?
- De qué sirve casarse? Cuál es el punto de casarse?
Casarse: get married
What’s the point of getting married?
- De qué sirve tener una casa grande? Cuál es el punto de tener una casa grande?
Tener una casa grande: Have a big house.
What’s the point of having a big house?

Cuando “Why” se usa en este tipo de oraciones, el verbo infinitivo se escribe en su forma
natural, sin “to” ni “ing” al final. Solo el verbo
- Why live? Para qué vivir?
- Why get married: Para qué casarse?
- Why have a big house: Para qué tener una casa grande?

pocos?

Con “Why”:

them?
- Cuál es el punto de ahorrar mucho dinero si no vas a gastarlo?
What’s the point of saving a lot of money If you’re not going to spend it?
- Con “Why”:
Why save a lot of money If you’re not going to spend it?
- Cuál es el punto de hacer algo que valga la pena si nadie está observando?
What’s the point of doing anything worthwhile If nobody’s watching?
- Cuál es el punto de ser famosos si no tienes nada de privacidad?
What’s the point of being famous If you don’t have any privacy?
- Cuál es el punto de estar casado si no crees en el amor?
