Student Response and Assessment Tools

Lesson Idea Name: Shapes Are Everywhere

Content Area: Mathematics
Grade Level(s): Kindergarten

Content Standard Addressed: MGSEK.G.2. Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or
overall size.

Technology Standard Addressed: 3- Knowledge Constructor

Selected Technology Tool:

☐ Socrative ☐ iRespond ☐ Quizlet  Plickers ☐ Kahoot! ☐ Office365 Forms
☐ Other:
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:

☐ Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☐ Phone  Tablet (such as iPad)
☐ Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)  QR Code
Type of session:
Teacher-Paced ☐ Student-Paced
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):
Remembering  Understanding ☐ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): For ELL students I would have a dictionary present that they could use
if they needed further assistance. The student would also be able to work in a group or with a partner to
help them with translation and to scaffold learning.
Prior to the SRT activity we will be covering a unit on shapes and how to identify different shapes
regardless of orientation or size by counting the number of sides of each shape. After covering this material
I will use the SRT activity to review the material learned and check for understanding before moveing on to
other things.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) To illuminate common
misconceptions  Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

During the SRT activity I will pass out the QR code cards for the students to use and explain to them how to
answer by holding the card so the letter of their answer is a t the top. I will also give the students some
manipulatives to help them answer the questions. Then I will go through and ask the students questions
concerning the shapes and when they decide on the correct answer they will hold their card up. I will scan the
cards in the room to see how they did on answering the questions, and use the information to guide my
instruction.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
This way I will know if the students can identify the shapes that we have been working on.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After the activity I will address any misconceptions that the students may have had about identifying
shapes, or move on to next thing if all the students understood how to identify the shapes.
How will the data be used? As a result of this activity I will be able to see who in the class got the questions
correct and incorrect immediately. The information will be used for me to asses if the students understand
the information, and address the information that is not understood. The information will be kept
anonymous to the class but will be discussed, so they can learn from their mistakes and celebrate what
they got correct. I will also use this information to differentiate for the students who need extra help in the
next unit. I can also use the data to share with parents and the students to monitor their progress.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. I hope to include this technology to help with
monitoring the progress of the students learning, and guide my instruction. I also hope that it will help to
inform the students on their progress, and engage them in a new fun way of assessment
Reflective Practice: This activity is going to help the teacher as well as the students monitor their progress
in learning. This activity will show the students and teacher how they are doing and what needs to be
retaught. The teacher could also let the students do the activity over again after addressing any issues to
see how they progress.
