CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION,
AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Summary:
This research was made to determine if the activated charcoal is an
effective adsorbent material. It was incorporated in a miniature
vent fan machine in which its design was substantial to suction
the surrounding air to capture the indecent smells present in the
public comfort room of Western Mindanao State University.
Based on the problems, the following findings were drawn:
• Problem 1:
In a test, the results were found that fart, ammonia, muriatic
acid, perspiration, molds, and human feces was present in the
public comfort room of Western Mindanao State University.
• Problem 2:
The vent fan efficiently extinguish the smell present in the
public comfort room of Western Mindanao State University. As
the air runs through the vents/holes, the built-in fan has enough
3
power to suction air at 1450m /hr thus the activated charcoal
adsorbs the smell in the comfort room.
• Problem 3:
The machine is more effective than the air refreshener because
of its fan suctioning at a high speed, it only took about an
average of 2.7minutes to neutralize the smell that causes strong
stench. The indoor air quality was efficiently purified. While,
the air refreshener took about an average of 9.9 minutes to
neutralize the smell.
Recommendations:
This researcher's recommendations have been made for better treatment
and removal of polluted air in an indoor area.An indication of the
ability of an air cleaning device to reduce adverse health effects
from indoor pollutants. The following recommendations for research
are based on the study findings:
• The recommended type of activated charcoal for gas adsorption
applications. For better adsorption, the activated charcoal to be
used in the said project should have a good quality particles and
pores. The active surface is almost entirely within the pore, with
relatively little on the surface of the particle. For this reason a
given charcoal has about the same active area whether in granular
or powdered form.
• The use of air cleaning devices may help to reduce levels of
smaller airborne allergens or particles. Research shows it helps not
only allergic or asthmatic patients, but anyone exposed to
sufficiently hazardous indoor air pollution. This research has
prepared to provide a machine recommended on giving a clean
fresh air in an indoor area highly effective in reducing adverse
health effects from indoor air pollutants.
• The Filtration method of addressing indoor air pollution is
recommended as a unique way to treat viruses, Bacteriaand some
mold spores that causes bad odors.
• The flow rate through the filter should be adjusted as
recommended to provide an acceptable level of odor exiting the
filter, and being comfortably below that flow rate is better. More
filters are better, since they help each other keep the odor level
below the acceptable level.
