ASSISTANT BARGE SUPERVISOR
Revision: 01

REPORTING:
Reports to the Barge Supervisor.

SUPERVISION:
Supervises the Ballast Control Operator (BCO), Crane Operator, Roustabout, and Painter.

LOCATION:
Offshore location.

PREREQUISITES / QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and
written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education.
- Knowledge of all technical calculations required for the safe operation of the marine
aspect of the rig.
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates.

BASIC FUNCTION:
- Assist the Barge Supervisor in ensuring that all marine aspects of the rig’s operations are
carried out in accordance to statutory and regulatory controls and guidelines.
- Coordinate the operation of the marine department to ensure the safe and efficient running
of the rig.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Operations/Maintenance:
- Check variable deck load on a daily basis in order to calculate and Authority I
maintain unit stability.
- Coordinate all helicopters and supply boats traffic to the rig and assist in Authority I
supervising transfers of materials to and from the rig.
- Monitor quantities of expendables such as fuel, potable water and drill Authority I
water.
- Assist in ensuring that all marine and navigation equipment is properly Authority I
maintained and ready for use at all times.
- Assist in monitoring the stability of the rig and ensure all loads are Authority II
appropriately dispersed throughout the rig.
- Operate and assist in maintaining the bulk system as required. Authority II
- Assist in ensuring that all lifting gear is color-coded, maintained and Authority II
stowed correctly.
- Supervise tests on fire fighting equipment, obstacle lighting, and audible Authority II
signals.
- Supervise Crane Operators, Roustabouts, and Painters in work related to Authority II
drilling operations, deck maintenance, loading and offloading workboats,
et cetera.
- Assist in planning rig moves, anchor patterns, and associated mobilization Authority II
preparations.
- Maintain accurate daily marine logs. Forward copies of these reports to Authority II

- Assist in monitoring weather/environmental conditions. Advise the Barge Authority II
Supervisor/OIM on conditions likely to affect drilling operations and
seaworthiness of the rig.
- Assist in ensuring that all safety equipment, including lifeboats and fire Authority II
fighting equipment is maintained in a state of operational readiness at all
times.
- Assist in ensuring that all Flag State and Classification Society Authority II
requirements are complied with including manning scale for marine
personnel.
- Participate in the effective management of the Preventive Maintenance Authority III
System as directed by the Barge Supervisor. Ensure all records are
properly maintained.
- Deputize for the Barge Supervisor as required. Authority III

QHSE:
- Play an active part in the weekly meetings, Quality Improvement Plan Authority I
program, and all other Company safety management systems.
- Review, understand and become familiar with the rig’s safety case. Authority I
- Ensure a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained Authority I
onboard the rig.
- Partake in weekly emergency drills along with monitoring and evaluating Authority II
the deck crew responses.
- Assist to prepare Job Safety Analysis for hazardous marine operations. Authority II
- Assist the Barge Supervisor during emergency situations and emergency Authority II
protection responses as designated on the station bill.
- Assist in communicating all Company QHSE policies and other to all rig Authority II
personnel.

Personnel:
- Meets the training requirements as per the applicable training matrix Authority I
- Mentor, develop and train crew members to ensure they are competent to Authority II
work at their next job level.
- Ensure proper and relevant communication with all personnel. Authority I
- Maintain discipline onboard and ensure compliance with Company and Authority I
regulatory disciplinary procedures.
- Conduct on the job (OJT) training for BCO, Crane Operator, Roustabouts, Authority II
and painters.
- Develop annual performance appraisal on employees supervised and Authority II
recommend promotion or disciplinary action up to and including
discharge.

DEFINITION OF DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY:


Authority I: To act.
Authority II: To act but inform supervisor and/or other interested parties.
Authority III: To obtain supervisor’s approval before acting.
