CFC Youth for Christ YFC LEADERS RETREAT MANUAL (2012 EDITION) 1
A. RATIONALE
YFC leaders are very instrumental in the journey of a YFC life. They play a very
important role in the fulfilment of the vision through its members, and their inputs
become fundamental part in the pastoral and developmental formation of YFC
members. For this reason, YFC leaders must embraced the gift and the privilege of being
called as a YFC Leader, understand its purposes and the implementation of the YFC
programs as they serve as guide to the YFC members. Their personal link with their
members under their care makes it possible for the youth to find someone to look up
and to be motivated to become like them as they serve. This guidance is an opportunity
to help and direct them to live out the identities of YFC, responding with a spirit of hope
and love in times of challenges and difficulties. In this way, the YFC leaders become
instruments of the YFC’s Seven Identities and our 4 Fundamental Principles. Hence, the
YFC Leader’s Retreat is needed to be formulated to serve as empowerment tool for new
YFC leaders in all programs that would put them in the right footing pastorally as they
take on the leadership service.
B. OVERVIEW
The Leaders Retreat Manual is an overnight weekend activity conducted for all
new YFC leaders coming from different program service, chapter levels and up. Which
means President up, EXECOM up for Campus Based Program, YCOM.This activity seeks
to provide basic pastoral formation to and empower YFC Leaders as they start their
service and be effective in performing their important roles.
Since it’s an entry point formation for new YFC Leaders, this should be
conducted in the top level in the area (e.g. MM –Sector level, Provinces- Provinces,
International- National/ Regional/ Country Level). It is therefore the minimum formation
requirement for all YFC Leaders. As the YFC Leaders formation progresses in their
service in the ministry to another level or program, a per-level or program
formation/training will be conducted to reinforce their knowledge and skills
corresponding to the new set of roles and responsibilities specific to the needs of the
new level or program. The modules for the next level training/formation at different
entry points (i.e. Chapter Level-up, Cluster Level-up, Sector Level-up, High Officers
Training, Execom Retreat) are provided in separate training module documents. Hence,
altogether, the different modules consists the YFC Training Track and Pastoral
Formation.

I. Introduction
As the top leaders of our areas, the Lord has revealed to us more of His
blessings. The view He has shown us is beyond what we ever imagined. When we are
first called to first join the community our primary inclination is just an answer to a
weekend away from home. Yet by God’s grace we have now in the position that
resulted to that unplanned yes. Many of us may not even recall how we were to get to
a point of calling ourselves as leaders. But in God’s unnoticeable plan He graced us with
a path that would lead us clearly to where we are now—leaders in His army.
From our youth camp until today, we have experienced and been more aware of
the infinite blessings and unconditional love of the Lord. We have become living
witnesses of Christ’s faithfulness. Through YFC, the Lord allowed us to experience His
unconditional love and infinite blessings through the 4F’s.
FUN- As youth, we are dynamic and fun-loving. Through YFC, we are able to
experience fun and creative activities with our peers and friends. We do not depend on
our happiness to the standards of the world.
E.g.
--We enjoy parties without alcohol.
--We get to meet other youths.
--We get to try new things and go to other places.
--We get to learn new things, discover our talents and use these things to serve
God.
FRIENDSHIP- through YFC, the Lord has blessed us to establish friendships that
would last for a long time, if not for a lifetime. These friendships are anchored on Christ.
E.g.
--We found our real friends in YFC.
--We build friendship that lasts.
FAITH- Because of YFC, we’ve grown to have a deeper and personal relationship
with the Lord. Also, we have learnt to translate our faith into actions.
E.g.
--We are more proactive in our personal convictions.
--We become respond to our social responsibilities through advocacies.
There is nothing we can do that can make God love us more, and there is nothing
we cannot do that can make God loved us less. That’s what you call GRACE. It is by the
grace of God that we find ourselves basking in the overwhelming blessings of the Lord.
TIME: The Lord has allowed us to have ample time to balance different aspects in
our lives effectively.
TALENTS: The Lord has molded us into individuals with specific skills and talents
where He can be glorified and magnified.
TREASURE: The Lord has showered us with resources that allowed us to attend
activities and to share to other people.
Because these Three T’s are from the Lord, these are not ours to keep but must
be shared to others. We must learn to give this all back to the Lord for His greater glory.
Some say, we cannot give what we do not have. With this in mind, we cannot
share unconditional love to our members if we have not felt God’s love in the first place.
As what is said in the first book of John 4:19, “We love because God first loved us.” Thus,
the primary reason we are able to love is because we have felt God’s great love for us.
C. Blessed to Witness
The overflowing blessings that Lord showers to us are clear manifestations of His
great and unconditional for us. We have witnessed how the Lord blesses us abundantly
and loves us immensely. He fills us up to the brink, our cups overflows. We have felt so
much love and experienced so many blessings that we find ourselves hoping and
allowing others to feel the same. Because of the immeasurable blessings and immense
love we have experience, we can love others with passion and zeal.
IV. Conclusion
As we bask in the overwhelming blessings of the Lord, we find ourselves sharing
God’s love with passion and zeal. As the top leaders of our areas, we have seen the
greater picture prepared to us by the Lord. And this greater picture shows the
immensity of the blessings we have experienced and the unconditional love we have
felt. But the Lord is so great and amazing, He does not end there.
Greater things are still yet to happen. We must continue to have open hearts—
hearts that are eager to see the blessing the Lord in everything—because "No eye has
seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love
him" -1 Corinthians 2:9.

OBJECTIVES:
DYNAMICS:
1. Activity that will stir up the group will be conducted. It will set the points to the
session proper.
Suggested Activity: Quote Quest
On the other side of the cards with letters write one or two words of a famous
quote. The quote may have some significance to the group’s purpose. Avoid selecting
an “esoteric” or difficult quote. Also, arrange the words on the cards so each word of
the quote is represented. This will result in some cards only having one word and other
may have multiple words. Be sure to include all capitalization and punctuation. This will
assist the group in constructing the sentence. Have the group arrange themselves in
order to make a quote that makes sense. Once they have arranged themselves, have
the group “read” the quote by each person speaking the word(s) in succession. This will
serve as an accuracy check for the group and give each person a chance to speak in front
of the group. The leader can choose to provide hints or not. By not offering hints and
looking upon this exercise as an initiative, the leader(s) will receive some insights about
the dynamics of the group (who are the people who exert some leadership, whose
involved and who is not, how well are people communicating, how “at-ease” do people
feel, etc.

is very affirmed of his/her anointing.
CFC Youth for Christ YFC LEADERS RETREAT MANUAL (2012 EDITION) 11
I. Introduction
Indeed we have pictured and felt that we have been tremendously blessed by the Lord
out of His naturally lavish love. He is blessing us, not just in one big flow, but in a consistently
abundant and loving way. He is blessing us not just in the things that we prayed for but even in
the things we never thought it may come to life. He is blessing us not just in the things that in
we can appreciate but even in the things we do not even notice now. He is blessing us not just
in the things that we yearn of having but even in the things that we are unworthy of. And this
love and grace that filled us for the past years is the very reason why we are here.
Though we all have different stories why we are here as YFC Leaders, one thing is
common in all the reasons why. That is, God wants us right where we are right now. We are
here not because of our own capacity but because of His might. We are here not because we
are faithful in our service nor in loving Him but we are here because He has been so consistent
in loving us. We are here not because we want to, but above all He wants to.
As we realize how faithful our God is in His love and grace for us through his blessings,
this will call us only for one thing that is to love as well. “With great power comes great
responsibility” – Spiderman, in the same way with great blessings comes great mission to pass it
on. To pass it on not because we want to repay God, (because we can never repay God, we can
never out do God in his generosity and blessings) but because among all other people in this
world we are the ones chosen by the Lord to experience His big time love that carried us until
this very moment, simply because he wants you to be here.
- To trust not because we are capable enough, but to trust because God is the one
who is guiding every step of the way, prepared every circumstances along the way,
and the one who prepared the
*As we continue to realize His anointing in that he wanted us, prepared us, and brought us
here. Let us also realize that this is a BLESSING and a PRIVILEGE
A. BLESSING – We felt his blessing, heard his calling stronger and louder than all his
creation.
B. PRIVILEGE – A privilege to be working for the God who created the heavens and the
earth.
- We are privileged to be part of God’s dream team. A team carefully chosen and few
can be part of.
A. ACKNOWLEDGE
CFC Youth for Christ YFC LEADERS RETREAT MANUAL (2012 EDITION) 13
- Recognize your anointment, decide to see it, feel it, breathe it, and experience every
bit of it daily.
- (e.g. Always remember that you are chosen by the Lord to be exactly where you are;
in your family you are anointed to be their source unity, in your school to be a
model of excellence, in your friends and to others a source of inspiration and hope.
Never forget that you are not just anointed to be a vessel of blessing in this
community but in all areas of your life.)
- This is the very thing, our anointing because we believe it, we decided to see it. tHIS
that brought us here and this is the very thing that will sustain us to stay.
- If we will not acknowledge it daily and be reminded of it, sooner or later we will
forget its real worth, and one day we’ll wake up wondering why are doing all these
things.
B. CELEBRATE
- Let us always celebrate this gift that God has given us. We celebrate this gift by living
it out.
- Living it out in love.
- Living it out with joy in our hearts, and finding that joy even if time gets tough.
- Stay committed in living it out.
- Our anointing and conviction of being called and carefully chosen by the Lord to do
his mission will only become a cliché and eventually die if we will stop living it.
C. TREASURE
- Always check it and affirm it.
- Defend it.
- Always check your emotions, way of seeing things, and how you deal with different
areas of your life even in simple details.
- Always remember that in every thing you do, you are leaving a mark, a mark that
your member, your friends and all people, whether it’s good or bad. Often times
people focuses more on our mistakes.
- Accept the reality that in one mistake, you can destroy your integrity (a crucial part
of your anointing).
D. GROW
- Decide to grow.
- Our anointing only move two ways, whether forward or backward. Remember that if
you don’t grow you will regress; there is no such thing as staying on the same spot.
- Focus on your strength and develop your weakness to be your strength.
- Drop your fears and embrace every opportunity to learn.
CFC Youth for Christ YFC LEADERS RETREAT MANUAL (2012 EDITION) 14
IV. Conclusion
Our God came for you in His deepest, “non can phantom”, all knowing wisdom because
he wants to create miracles through you. He will touch, change, and make someone realize His
greatness and love through you. But this reality shouldn’t make us proud or/and complaisant
but instead move us and excite us in this mission knowing that he did not only called us but also
trusted us and counting on us. He is counting on us to be a channel of miracle and love to
others and make them closer to Him. Let us continue to acknowledge, celebrate, treasure and
grow this gift he give us.

“And He said to me, My grace I sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness. Most
gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weakness, so that the power of Christ may dwell
in me… ” 2 Cor 12:9 (NASB)
I. Introduction
We have experienced God’s overwhelming love and how He has called and anointed us
be servants of His mission. But there are still things that hinder us from serving. There is
still that brokenness inside us that prevents us from totally accepting God’s anointing.
When we were called by the Lord to with Him in this service, we suddenly have those
apprehensions and fears inside us that make us want to just back out. There is brokenness
inside us that hinders us to go and spread His love. We suddenly feel incomplete and not
qualified to do this mission. We begin to ask ourselves “why me?” Or we simply say “I am
not ready for this mission”
Brokenness is not just a matter of being hurt or being left alone. Brokenness is being
incomplete and filling ourselves with fears and doubts. It prevents us from sharing the
goodness inside us and hinders us from accepting our anointing from God because it is
already filled with impurities.
a. Feeling of unworthiness
The feeling of not being suitable for this mission
We are not worthy because of the sins we have committed
Feeling that we are too young for the mission
b. Having an unforgiving heart
Dwelling on the things or past experiences that caused bitterness
that hinders us to let go of our hurts and accept God’s anointing
Thinking that our past defines our future- the things we did in the
past that are not good will never be forgotten
c. Untrusting self
Not allowing to trust other people and to let them in our lives.
Failing other people to help us and guide us in our mission as
becoming leaders
CFC Youth for Christ YFC LEADERS RETREAT MANUAL (2012 EDITION) 17
Forward to forgiveness
The Lord does not dwell on our past but rather promises a future with
hope and peace
The Lord did call the righteous but rather the sinners, to repentance.
The Lord have called us in midst of our sinfulness.
Forgiveness is the key to healing. It will let go of the excess baggage
in our life and gives our hearts a place for God’s anointing
IV. Conclusion
God Bandaged the wounds He makes; His hands hurt you and His hands Heal -Job
5:18. Know that the Lord may give us all the pains and troubles in life for the Lord the
Lord does not give us pains that we cannot endure or troubles we cannot surpass.
Let us see our brokenness as God’s way for you to share more of His love. Use our
brokenness to reveal the Lord in us for in our weakness God’s strength is made perfect.
Offer the Lord all of your fears and troubles and He in return will hand over His
peace to you.
CFC Youth for Christ YFC LEADERS RETREAT MANUAL (2012 EDITION) 19
OBJECTIVES:
1. To impart to them the seven YFC identities and other essentials to which they could
live by.
2. To stress the importance of a deep personal relationship to God.
3. To excite the leaders to share God’s love to others by living as witnesses of that love.
DYNAMICS:
The previous sessions made the new leaders ready to follow the leading of the Lord. In
the first session, they were let the participants realize how blessed they truly and how they are
being loved immensely by God. Then, in the second session, they were made to realize how
God wants to bless them more by cooperating in His blessings through the call they have
answered. And in the third session for them to cooperate fully to the blessings of God, the new
leaders were also incited to leave and offer to the Lord all that hinders them from experiencing
God’s blessing fully.
Now that they want to be true to their anointing, this session would talk about how they
would live as leaders in the community and how they could witness God’s love to other people.
As they were chosen by God to be witness God’s love, they will be strong in the power of God.
SPEAKER’S PROFILE:
A YFC leader/FTW/MV who lives gratefully of his/her service through the years.
Someone who exemplifies the heart of thanksgiving even in the experience of challenges.
CFC Youth for Christ YFC LEADERS RETREAT MANUAL (2012 EDITION) 20
I. Introduction
After realizing how you are truly loved and blessed by God, after realizing the bigger
blessing of an anointing to serve Him, and after letting all that hinders you from serving go
by offering them to the Lord, another question lies. How should you live with your
blessings? How would you live your life worthy of the Lord?
A. Faith
After you acknowledge all that is given to you and gave up what hinders you
from seeing the Lord clearly in every blessing and experience, we are called to believe
more in His mighty power, his providence and never failing love. We exemplify faith by
believing in God and sharing the Jesus experiences to other youth.
Believe unceasingly. In times you begin to feel needy, God has promised in the
Gospel of look to provide you with the things you need. (Isaiah 43:2-4, Lk 12:22-34)
B. Hope
If you believe in the Lord, you also believe in everything that He could do as God.
Be strong in the Lord and let no worry, suffering and pain lose your sight of reaching
God’s kingdom where you and God. All is well and all will be well in the Lord. Have faith
in Him. Hope in Him and His promises every time you face difficulties and trials. Hope in
His ways because He knows where He leads you. (Jeremiah 29:11)
C. Love
You might have asked yourself, “Why does the Lord give me so much even if I
could only give Him a pinch in return?”
CFC Youth for Christ YFC LEADERS RETREAT MANUAL (2012 EDITION) 21
The answer is, He wants to grow in love in you and desires your love for Him,
too. We have felt His love. It should be natural like impulse that we love Him back. We
must grow more in our relationship with the Lord.
Prayer time
Regular communication strengthens ties breaks indifference. Communicate to
God regularly in scriptures and in prayer for us to know more about God’s greatness
and listen to what God wants us to live by every day.
Contemplative living
The Lord, in certain times, allows us to commit mistakes or allows us to be
susceptible to negative thoughts and feelings. He does this to happen for us to
continuously check on our selves, how we act and react on things.
Let us take our weak and vulnerable moments as time to reflect on how the Lord
wants to prune us from our worldly thoughts and ways. Furthermore, we could also
take this time to seek God’s leading in how He wants to mold us.
Sacraments
Sacraments are the visible expressions of God’s love. In these expressions that
we are best nourished and filled with more grace. We can maximize these to keep is
filled with God’s presence and graces.
In the Sacraments, we want to maximize and receive regularly the Holy Eucharist
and The Sacrament of Reconciliation.
As we desire to keep in touch with the Lord through these steps, these lead us to
our first calling us Catholic Christians – the call to holiness.
YFC Identities
God has blessed us with seven YFC identities to which we could live by. As YFCs, we
are guided with these identities. We are being lead to live out these identities.
o Missionary
As a missionary, we make ourselves ready to share God’s love to anyone,
anywhere at anytime.
o Patriotic
We acknowledge that where God placed us is the place where He wants us to
work His miracles into. We love and honour our country with the honour and
love it deserves.
o 100% Free
o Champion of the poor
o Model of Excellence
Be excellent in your studies, drop cheating, and study ahead, quit submitting
mediocre requirements because of cramming and put excellence on it by
doing it ahead. (The speaker could give other example)
IV. Conclusion
The Lord has blessed us much. The Lord has blessed us even more through our
anointing. We leave everything that hinders us from experiencing the Lord fully. What
will be left of us are the essentials - ourselves, God, and a continuous experience of His
love that leads us to holiness. This makes us feel the itch to share the same experience
to others which will fuel us our service. We just cannot let this feeling of being blessed
be stuck in us. This is just so great that you won’t let everyone else miss this realization.
