Introduction:

In recent decades, new technologies had a dramatic impact on people’s life. Not only

have new innovations transformed the communication with one another, but also it had a

transformative effect on how people do daily routines. While people with disabilities still face

numerous challenges, it is fair to say that new technologies are providing with new opportunities.

Of course, those with disabilities often find it difficult to operate technologies in the way able-

bodied users do, but this technology can help disabled persons in their daily activities by using

their voice command. A voice command device is a device controlled by means of the human

voice. By removing the need to use buttons, dials and switches. It can easily operate appliances

with one hand or while doing other tasks. Some of the first examples of this project can be found

in home appliances, like lights that allow consumers to operate on and off switch through

vocal commands and mobile phones with voice-activated dialing.

The Voice controlled home automation project helps to control the electrical loads based

on Bluetooth input signal. The Bluetooth device receives this input signal from android device. It

is designed as a switch to control any appliances and outlets on and off using voice command

and an application in our cellphone as a command receiver.

The form of home automation called assistive domestics focuses on making it possible

for elderly and disabled people to live independently. Home automation is becoming a viable

option for the elderly and disabled who would prefer to stay in their own homes rather than move

to a healthcare facility. This field uses much of the same technology and equipment as home

automation for security, entertainment, and energy conservation but tailors it towards elderly and

disabled users.

As a researcher I observed that people with disabilities do not want special treatment

they just want the barriers removed so they can get on with living. So this technology perfectly

fits, not only for the disabled person but also in elderly. Voice control home automation is a

technology that helps other people to perform daily task and to help disabled people to be

independently functional.

Result and discussion:

Voice control home automation project helps to control the electrical loads based on

Bluetooth input signal. The Bluetooth device receives this input signal from android device. This

system is especially beneficial in case of handicapped or aged people who find it difficult to walk

and operate the electrical switches to turn on or off the loads.

System off

In figure 5 it shown the actual image when the system is off. In this state the arduino and

the relay are still functioning. The arduino is plugged into 5 volts supply. And when the program

switched on, the arduino opens the relay to open the 220 volts source and results the output to

switch on.

System on

In order to switch on the voice control home automation, using the android cellphone

connect the Bluetooth of the device to the Bluetooth module (HC-05) of the system and open the

Amr_Voice application. Input the voice command to work the application. The voice controlled

home automation finally done. The example command that is registered to the systems are

“lights on” (all lights will on), “lights off” (all lights will off), “bedroom 1 lights on”, “kitchen

lights off” etc. The results for testing the code is always work.

Since this system is related to the voice or the speech by the user that will use to control

this system, thus there is some issue that arises when using the system. The problems are the

pronunciation of the user when doing the training process, pronunciation when using the system,

the repetition of the same word used to train the system with different number and lastly the

length of the word used. For the pronunciation matter, the system takes it a quite high level

sensitivity. The main reason is when a word is trained into the system, the HC-05 Bluetooth and

using an android will perform the code of the voice control home automation. So when the user

wishes to use the system of the code of Arduino Uno that will perform the voice control home

automation, thus he or she must produce the word of lights on, lights off or any code provided in

the voice control home automation with the correct pronunciation as in the training process.

This issue will cause the system to enable to perform it duties perfectly as when the user

uses the word that trained it.

The voice control home automation system has been successfully developed and through

this project we gained much experience especially in the field of applying the technique of

troubleshooting an electrical circuit and also in programming the code of voice control home

automation.

Methodology

Voice control home automation project helps to control the electrical loads based on

Bluetooth input signal. The Bluetooth device receives this input signal from android device. This

system is especially beneficial in case of handicapped or aged people who find it difficult to walk

and operate the electrical switches to turn on or off the loads. This system solves this issue as

now the user just has to give voice commands to turn on or off the loads. Here 6 light bulbs are

used as a loads. All these loads can be individually turned on/off or all loads at the same time.

This system solves the issue by interfacing a unit with home appliances that switches these loads

based on the input received from android device.

In table 1, it shows the materials that used in Voice Control Home Automation. In here

the arduino is the acting brain of this system. It process the input voice command to control the

output of the home automation. Then the relay is a switch that activates when the command is

delivered, it connects the loads to 220 VAC source when activated. A Relay is an electrically

operated switch. In this project there is no real need to isolate one circuit from the other, but we

will use an Arduino UNO to control the relay. The HC-05 or the Bluetooth module is the device

that receives the connection of the smartphone to control the application.

The procedure in this project are; connect the wiring connection as shown in figure 1,

make sure that the pin headers are well connected to each components. After connecting the

Bluetooth module and the relays, connect the electrical loads in the relay (see in figure 2). Since

we used a readymade relay board with 8 - channels, all we need to do is to connect the inputs of

the individual relays to the Arduino. Make an individual outlets for each electrical loads. After

that upload the program in arduino uno as shown in figure 2.

module. After successful connection, the devices are ready to transmit data. For that, press the

press microphone icon on the app as shown in figure 3 and start giving voice commands. The

Voice Control Home Automation is ready to use.
