Technology Standard Addressed: Students recognize the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living,
learning and working in an interconnected digital world, and they act and model in ways that are safe, legal
and ethical. Students: engage in positive, safe, legal and ethical behavior when using technology, including
social interactions online or when using networked devices.
Students will be using this tool to start a discussion on world literature and how it effects students and the
world in general. By asking an open ended question where there is no right or wrong answer, it gives
students an opportunity to discuss freely their personal experience as well as their opinion. This supports a
UDL framework because it is engaging students as well as creating a collaborative effort in thinking of how
World Literature is important. This is also being used as an introduction to world literature, so it also gives
students a preview of how the class is going to look and prepare them for the rest of the year. Using
Nearpod as a response tool will be a big part of the discussions over the entire year, so getting them
familiar with it at the beginning gives them a chance to understand it better as well.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
The poll will be used during the first week of school, most likely on the second day of class after the
formalities have been gone over. I will start by asking students what does world literature mean to them
and ask if it has affected them in any way. Their answer will most likely be that it has not affected them,
and that is when I will start talking about how I have traveled and the books that I read and how they have
affected me. I will then ask them to get out their phones or tablets and follow the link so that they can tell
me where they have been this past summer.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):

involved and engaged. Once students have discussed where they went and as a class discussed the impact of
world literature, the lesson will be further extended by asking students to pick a country. Once students have
picked a country, they will then pick a book from that selected country to find information on not only the
book, but the impact the book had on the country or maybe possibly the world. Students can use Nearpod to
create a presentation of their book and country to further expand upon the lesson.
