 'No Smoking was not captured in the right manner
cinematically'

His biggest high was producing Omkara, with Ajay Devgan, Saif
Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Kareena Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma.
"It is one of my most satisfying works as a producer. Now, I
want to do quality films," he says.

So how did he feel when No Smoking, directed by Anurag

Kashyap, bombed?

"All of us feel -- to this day -- that the project was very

good on paper," he says. "But it was not captured in the right
manner cinematically."

"I am against smoking. My father died because of smoking; he

had lung cancer. I had a passion for the subject. That's why I
took it up."

"The film was appreciated by the government. They thought such

films should be made. Unfortunately, it did not work."

So what went wrong? "Nobody tells K what he should do," Mangat

says with a smile, quoting a line from No Smoking.

"I guess youngsters don't want to be told what to do with

their lives. That's why they did not appreciate the film. But
this is my analysis. And a guess. Maybe I'm wrong."

Ajay Devgan's directorial debut, U, Me Aur Hum, his next film,

will release in April.

Another film, Haal-E-Dil, which will launch his daughter

Amita, is expected in theatres in June.

Will she pursue her father's dream of becoming an actor? "I

don't think that way," he says. "She has her own life. She has
always wanted to be an actor since her childhood. I never tell
my children what they should do in life. My son Abhishek is
learning filmmaking in New York."

Why does he not follow his dreams now and become an actor?

"Many people tell me that. But I cannot do it. There is too

much work as a producer. I just don't have the time."
