Master Amir Chand, the famous revolutionary who was hung on the gallows in the Hardinge Bomb case of
1912, along with other martyrs, ( Four persons- Master Amir Chand, Awadh Bihar, Bal Mukund and Basant Kumar
Biswas were hung. Rash Behari Bose succeeded in fleeing to Japan. ), wrote in his well known book called "LIBERTY"
thus:-

"..The bondage of Bharat depends upon its own will. If all the PEOPLE of this sacred land of Hindustan, determine to
become FREE and (therefore even ) SPIT together, that will sink the CORRUPT, ROTTEN British race, along with
its ILLEGAL & FRAUDULENTLY acquired so-called British Empire.."

Ladies & Gentlemen, these & many other such anecdotes & thoughts swirled thru my mind as we watched the
latest superb Marathi Movie based on the Life & Work of, HERO & IDOL of MILLIONS of HINDUSTANIS
across the WORLD, Yugpurush Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak.

( The word "Lokmanya" is a Marathi word and a fond TITLE given to Tilak by the PEOPLE. ( By way of
info., Marathi is my mother tongue and it is considered as a daughter of Sanskrit language & sister of Hindi, uses
same DEVANAGARI script.. Marathi is predominantly spoken in the State of Maharashtra and is its official
Language. )

The word "Lokmanya" in Marathi, literary means "Loved and Accepted by the PEOPLE".

That, the movies is absolutely STUNNING, the direction absolutely SLEEK, sets tremendously CREATIVE,
SCRIPT is very well WRITTEN and acting by Mr. Subodh Bhave, who played the ROLE of our HERO, Shri
Tilak, is just out of this WORLD.
We very rarely watch new ( Not OLD classics ) Marathi movies & Hindi movies, virtually never, due to the
predictable & absurd story-lines coupled with insipid direction attempt... (lately with the exception of the "Gone
Girl", we haven't seen good Hollywood movie either) However, in the recent past, without a slightest
doubt the quality of Marathi Movies is slowly & surely on the upswing. ( Recent Marathi movie on Dr.
Prakash Amte's life was another example of excellent movie-making. )

The movie Lokmanya, Ek Yugpurush, however is a beautiful movie and sets an example, with its
innovative & succinct SCRIPT, as to how to PORTRAY an approximately 90 years
of HINDUSTAN's HEROIC FREEDOM STRUGGLE, in 140 minutes of SCREEN PLAY, without losing its
core theme ( From 1857 - 1947 ), and in which the first half ( from 1890 onwards till his death in 1920 )
was dominated by the TALLEST personality of Lokmanya Tilak, without a slightest doubt.

Needless to add, that what comes across from the movie going experience, once again, is the GLORIOUS
CHARACTER of Lokmanya, his LION LIKE COURAGE, his ASTONISHING MASTERY over MATHEMATICS
& SANSKRIT, his DEEP GRASP over HINDUSTAN's ANCIENT SANSKRIT LITERATURE like VEDAS,
UPANISHADs & above all BHAGAVAD GITA, his clear UNDERSTANDING about the ROTTENNESS OF
BRITISH RACE, and their cunning PSYCHOLOGY, his IMAGINATIVE APPROACH in mobilizing the
PUBLIC OPINION against BRITISH, his tremendously CAPTIVATING ORATORY, his IRON WILL &
INDOMITABLE SPIRIT & above all his TOTAL & COMPLETE love for MAA BHARTI & its CHILDREN..

Ladies & Gentlemen, we have often written, that WE MUST STUDY OUR GLORIOUS HISTORY & the LIFE of
our HINDUSTANI HEROES, so that WE KNOW THE TRUTH FIRST-HAND that ALLOW us to make our
own opinions.

( I have been a voracious reader ( ..In Hindi, Marathi & English languages & hope to read in Sanskrit too..)
all my life since the age when I could learn to read, and with all my authority & experience of years, I am
utterly convinced, without a slightest doubt, that HINDUSTAN is a COUNTRY of GODS & HEROES..Each
region of HINDUSTAN has PRODUCED finest of talents in ALL WALKs OF LIFE and that, even if one were
to only consider our HISTORY of LAST 100 years, then a COMPLETE BOOK running into several
hundreds of pages may prove inadequate to describe the LIVES & WORK of BHARATIYA HEROES.

With all my knowledge of foreign HISTORY, we don't think any country even remotely comes close
to HEROISM & TALENT as that of HINDUSTAN..This is a statement of FACT of course..But then we are
the OLDEST & MOST GLORIOUS CIVILIZATION of the WORLD...Without no doubts whatsoever.... )

A very Brief Outline of Lokmanya Tilak's Work:-

I don't need to reiterate the very fundamental TRUTH that, BRITISH OCCUPATION of INDIA was
COMPLETELY ILLEGAL by every LAW known to the mankind since the day of Mahabharata or even
Chanakya.

Here a few words on British race:-

We are No Racists, and yet we have NOT SEEN ANY COMMUNITY or RACE other than BRITISH who, by
DESIGN always trying to ENSLAVE OTHERS..

We have lived in London, and were always aghast, as an example, to see & hear, BRITISH voted
down CHURCHILL, after HE WON THE WAR FOR THEM, giving some flimsy reason.

Clearly, the BRITISH race has NEVER HEARD of a VIRTUE CALLED "GRATITUDE".

The whole world know that, HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR CHURCHILL's LEADERSHIP, HITLER would have
ANNEXED BRITON and would have sent Britishers packing to Auschwitz or Dachau. It was big lesson
for me...!

( ....Why go that far? On 9/11 tragedy, BBC ran a program (On Channel 4, I think) where, as I recall, all
BRITISH were literary GLOATING on FELLING of TWIN-TOWERS....and a solitary AMERICAN (
some DIPLOMAT I think ) was crying profusely & silently with tears streaming down on his cheeks. I was
staying in the UK then & had watched the entire BBC program with REPULSION, DISGUST and whole lot of
other unprintable feelings intermingled together......3600 innocent lives lost & Britishers were rejoicing while
denouncing USA on the BBC program, Pretty SICK BASTARDS, don't you think ?....)

Secondly, we have never seen a BRITISH PERSON HAPPY on

SOME OTHER country's or SOCIETY'S success. America ( & INDIA too), is a classic example of
BRITISH JEALOUSY. We have never seen or heard a British person talking GOOD about
AMERICA.. ( Their leaders only LICK BOOTS of AMERICA when whipped by others ).
 ( Me, I am an admirer of AMERICA. Because I still see some GOOD left IN THEM. My most of the HEROES,
other than HINDUSTANI HEROES, are all AMERICANS. ( Although that American goodness, I think with
sadness, is steadily DWINDLING DOWN, due to the LUST for POWER & MONEY, and a break from
its IDEALISTIC PAST ..) )

Thirdly, if you study WORLD HISTORY, most of the CHRONIC INTERNATIONAL ISSUES were DIRECT or
INDIRECT creations of CORRUPT BRITISH FOREIGN POLICIES...For example, be it a PARTITION of
INDIA-PAKISTAN, PARTITION of erstwhile province of BENGAL in to Bangladesh & West Bengal, ISRAEL
- PALESTINE CONFLICTS, AFRICAN & EUROPEAN politics, GERMANY's PARTITION
per Versailles treaty ..etc..

(..There is lot more too...Does this sick BRITISH mindset come from SMALL ISLAND MENTALITY and
SLAVISH MONARCHY TYPE of RULE ?? If one still dig deeper, one would realize that, BRITISH were &
are fundamentally BUCCANEERS & SEA PIRATES. They stole, subjugated, enslaved others in the olden
days & when that ill-acquired territory was re-claimed by its rightful owners, they too started FADING
from the INTERNATIONAL SCENE.....Something to think about... )

We, particularly took time to explain all this, because one could possibly IMAGINE how harsh & cunning
BRITISH RULE was on the HINDUSTAN and in which people like Lokmanya Tilak had to create MASS
MOBILIZATION for the CAUSE of LIBERTY...

( We can't UNDO all this past. We know that! and with COOL HEADS, WE MAY HAVE TO DEAL with the
BRITISH again now as WE MUST in the MODERN ERA, but the POINT is, study of HISTORY will GIVE us an
IDEA as to HOW TO DEAL with such ROTTEN MINDSET, when and as we MUST.That is all..! )
)

Coming back to Lokmanya's life:-

On such backdrop of ILLEGAL OCCUPATION of INDIA by BRITISH, young Tilak's life was initially
influenced by 3 extraordinary personalities. They were,

1. Vasudeo B. Phadke :- From Phadke, considered as the very FIRST REVOLUTIONARY of BHARAT, Tilak learned to love
the SPIRIT of INDOMITABLE & UNADULTERATED, TOTAL FREEDOM & LIBERTY.

2. Maharshi Annasaheb Patwardhan:- He gave TILAK to study, understand & practice the GLORY of ANCIENT HINDU
ETHOS or BHARTIYA OUTLOOK, to solve the issues.

3. Vishnushastri Chiplunkar :- The great SANSKRIT scholar & an ideologue, Vishnushastri INVESTED in TILAK the
CHARGE OF AWAKENING THE MASSES and invoking in PEOPLE the dormant but, quite inherent, WILL &
POWER TO FIGHT FOR THE MOTHERLAND..

Without a slightest doubt, Tilak with his BOUNDLESS ENERGY, GIFTED INTELLECT & INHERENT LOVE FOR
MAA BHARTI & HUMANITY in general was totally successful in achieving all the THREE OBJECTIVES as
his PERSONAL CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS RESURRECTING INDIAN NATIONHOOD.

It must be noted that, after the failed TERRIFIC FREEDOM WAR of 1857, the INDIAN NATIONHOOD SPIRIT
was somewhat on the wane. But Lokmanya Tilak's RISE & his GIFTED LEADERSHIP abilities once
again RESTORED THAT CRUCIAL DISCONTENT among the masses that eventually became a TIDAL
WAVE of BHARATIYA SPIRIT OF FREEDOM and that eventually SAW BRITISH BEING THROWN OUT and
ENDING THEIR ILLEGAL OCCUPATION of INDIA..

PUBLICATIONS of DAILIES like KESARI & MARATHA :-

After the sad demise of Chiplunkar, the responsibility of running the day to EDITING OPERATIONS of daily
newspapers, KESARI & MARATHA, fell on Tilak's able shoulders. From the limited scope of TEACHING
FIELD, TILAK was now propelled into the BOUNDLESS FIELD of PUBLIC LIFE..

Through the field of Journalism, TILAK was destined to carry out his LIFE's work.

His genius was tailor made for such work to REKINDLE THE SPIRIT OF INDIAN NATIONHOOD AMONG THE
GENERAL MASSES, to FAN THE DISCONTENT in the MINDS of INDIANS against the ILLEGAL OCCUPATION
of INDIA BY THE CORRUPT BRITISHERS & to mobilize them to the SINGLE GOAL OF ACQUIRING
FREEDOM & LIBERTY..
What could have been more useful to THE GENIUS of TILAK than to RUN THE NEWSPAPERS?? Nothing
really...He used the opportunity with unparalleled FERVOR & CREATIVITY.

STARTING GANESH & SHIVAJI FESTIVALS:-

Mahatma Gandhi, who always was in awe of Tilak, once described TILAK, as RESERVOIR of KNOWLEDGE
& WISDOM as ENDLESS & as FATHOMLESS as an OCEAN..

In a classic example, where Tilak used his genius with adroitness, was in STARTING TWO YEARLY FESTIVALS
of Lord Ganesha & of Emperor Shivaji.

Tilak's calculation was simple, one would hardly find a person in the HINDUSTAN & especially so
in MAHARASHTRA, who is NOT in REVERENCE of Lord Ganesha & that of Emperor Shivaji.

By starting festivals in their GLORY, Tilak hoped to GIVE A LEGITIMATE PLATFORM to the PEOPLE,
where they can come together, assemble from all strata of the society and PLAN to OVERTHROW
CORRUPT BRITISH..and BRITISH wouldn't be able tos atop the assembly as it was touching at the
RELIGIOUS FERVOR among the people..

The idea WORKED BEAUTIFULLY....and REST as they say is HISTORY...

Epilogue:-
Our Intention is not to write a BIOGRAPHY of Lokmanya Tilak here. Indeed, that would be an enticing
challenge. However, at the same time, it will be too taxing and would be beyond the scope of this article.

Our main purpose was to introduce readers to this new excellent new Marathi movie on the inspiring life of Shri
Lokmanya Tilak and at the same time ensure that the youths of NEW GENERATION of BHARAT, get at least
a brief understanding of TOWERING PERSONALITY of TILAK and his GLORIOUS & yet extremely
FUNDAMENTAL contribution of AWAKENING INDIAN MASSES dejected from the defeat of the FREEDOM
FIGHT of 1857, and that created a solid FOUNDATION on which later LEADERS like Mahatma Gandhi &
Patel could build the shining NEW EDIFICE of FREEDOM...

Lokmanya Tilak's life & work can't be told in few hundred words for sure.

He was a GENIUS and a SPIRITUAL KARMA-YOGI. His commentary on Bhagavad Gita the "Gita
Rahasya" ( The Mystery of Gita ), remains the FINEST & most LUCID ever explanation of such a PROFOUND
and LIFE-ALTERING WISDOM.

Make no Mistake! Lokmanya was a WARRIOR at heart. An UNDEFEATED WARRIOR for sure.

Despite all the seemingly LIFE-SHATTERING setbacks, long & rigorous imprisonments, death of his own wife &
son and that , of friends & close colleagues like Chapekar Brothers, Khudiram Bose, Agarkar, Chiplunkar and
many others, he remained, steadfast & resolute as ever, INSPIRING MILLIONS across the HINDUSTAN. ( Even
RSS founder, Param Pujya Dr. Hedgewar also took inspiration from Lokmanya's teachings and met him
at least on two occasions before embarking on his life's mission to form the RSS. )

Lokmanya's life story was MAGICAL, MYSTICAL, SPIRITUAL, INSPIRATIONAL, EDUCATIONAL, ( He was a
PROFESSIONAL TEACHER, a MATHEMATICIAN & SANSKRIT SCHOLAR. His two books "ORION &
ARCTIC HOME OF VEDAS" provide fundamental explanation on HINDU CIVILIZATION & its ANCIENT
GLORY from VEDIC PERIOD ), and full of HEROISM, BRAVERY & COURAGE of HIGHEST ORDER...

Let me close these few words by quoting, utterly CAPTIVATED Mahatma Gandhi, when he first TIME READ
Tilak's commentary on GITA, called GITA-RAHASYA:-

Mahatma Gandhi says:-

"......In order to learn BHAGAVAD GITA, I took efforts to learn Sanskrit. I had lost my mother at a very
early age. However, after studying GITA, she (The GITA) became my MOTHER & thereafter I never felt any
void in my LIFE.

In my low or confused times, I always look towards this outstanding COMMENTARY by TILAK on GITA
for any advice at all, and all my confusion gets cleared.
 No one has ever done tremendously FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH on VEDAS & GITA as is done by
TILAK.Indeed, there has been no BETTER COMMENTARY on GITA penned by any one other than TILAK.
( We completely agree of course )

Tilak's infinite GENIUS, his complete SELFLESSNESS, and his TOTAL DEDICATION & LOVE towards the
MAA BHARTI, has earned a SPECIAL & IMMOVABLE seat in the HEARTS & MINDS of the PEOPLE.

His GITA-RAHASYA will remain IMMORTAL along with his MEMORIES forever...."

My love and admiration for the State of Israel began when I was in my mid-teens. As I recall, my father had then lent me a book
that he had borrowed from his library or a friend I don't recollect which exactly.

[We both were and are still voracious readers of literature in Marathi (my mother tongue and an official Language of the State of
Maharashtra where I live), Hindi and in English. (and some in 'Sanskrit' too). So from my young age, it was a common practice
amongst us Father-Son duo to share books. Even today after 40+ years the practice continues. :) ]

This particular book to which I refer was in Marathi.
