DETAILS OF PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR IMPLEMENTATING

LEGAL LITERACY TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR WOMEN & GIRLS.

INTRODUCTION:
This awareness exercise is aimed at empowering women & girls with the knowledge of their
rights and duties and to ultimately be able to share power equality gain full access to the means
of development to defend women’s rights and to inspire a whole new generating of women to
work together towards achieving equality and justice. As is well known Orissa though a
backward and poor state has of late won the notoriety of having highest percentage of atrocities
of women in the country. The number of cases filled by the victim women is so alarmingly on the
increase that the Government machinery alone is for inadequate to deal with the problems in a
fair and time bound manner. The efforts by the NGOs are therefore highly essential for both
awareness building and legal assistance to the potential and actual victims. Hence, to save the
rights of the women available in different welfare explanation by awaring them through providing
legal education. “Women & Child Welfare Society” has made a plan to organize the “Legal
Literacy Training Programme for Women & Girls”.

NATURE OF THE PROJECT:

Awareness Generation Programme among Rural Women & Girls regarding their legal
rights and aids.

AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT:

 To impart legal awareness to the rural Women and Girls with and to help women to avail
of the benefit under the law and to faster gender justice.
 To impart practical knowledge about the basic legal rights and remedies provided under
various laws, there by making them fit for facing the challenges in real life situation.
 To provided with basic information knowledge and skills on different legislations.
 To equip them to act as agent of social change in their respective area.
 To make the rural women aware of the various machineries/ organs of the justice
delivery system available for redressal of their problems/ grievances.
 The producer of approaching for utilizing various channels for the redressal of
grievances i.e. the Police, the Executive and Judiciary.
 The role of Courts in achieving gender equity most important the concept of public
interest litigation.
 To identify problems involved in implementation of laws relating to women.
 To acquaint the front line activities of voluntary women organizations with the
constitutional provisions, legislations, policies and rights of women.
 Interact with guest resource persons by clarifying their doubts/ problems
 To provide a common forum for discussion, exchange of ideas, views and experience.

 Law relating to marriage divorce & maintenance.

 Criminal Law and Women.
 Dowry provision and Dowry structure, Sociology.
 Employment Law in relation to women, minimum wages/ payments.
 Consumer Law.
 Child & Law.
 Child Rights, Child Marriage.
 Citizen and Police Advisory Trial.
 Legal Aid, Public interest litigation & access to justice.
 Women & Law/ Rape, Prostitution, Descente, Representation.
 Bounded/ Laborer/ Child Labor Act.
 Social Legislation, PCR, Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe Act.
 Human Rights and State obligation and fundamental duties.
 Crime against body & property.

TARGET GROUP:
There are 50 Nos. participants from NGOs, Mahila Mandal, Mahila Samiti, Sarpanch,
Ward Member, Teacher, Angan Wadi Worker, SHG Member, Leader of Women Group,
Housewives etc. will be drawn of as participants.

RESOURCE PERSONS :
The Resouce persons for this course will be Government Official, Judges, Advocates,
Member of Legal Aid Committee and Police Officers of the concerned Area.
