Delos Aerospace

Delos’s Vision for the future of aviation is to implement advanced

green technologies to provide for sustainability to the aviation
industry by significantly reducing the carbon footprint of aircraft
while significantly lowering operational and MRO cost structures.

The amount of fuel wasted during taxiing and waiting in queue is over
6.2 billion gallons of Jet A fuel every year and rising 5.2% every year for
the global fleet of Airlines and Cargo Carriers so by 2014 this number
will be 7.218 billion gallons a year in wasted fuel burn. Our magnetic
braking and ground maneuvering system captures the energy that is
normally lost as waste heat within the friction based braking systems
and then uses this energy to conduct the ground maneuvering of
aircraft without the need to run the main engines or the APU.
Other green taxiing systems proposed only provide up to 4.2 % decrease
in fuel burn while our system provides up to 27% decrease in fuel burn,
which is 6.43 times more efficient.
Our green taxiing system also allows for increased payload capacity
and/or reduced takeoff distance depending upon the operational
requirements.
The system is able to determine the available friction coefficient at
any instant in time for use in the motoring and braking controls
wherein such information can also be used to determine runway and
taxiiway health and for determining safe loading limits when operating
on lowered runway conditions such as during rain, ice and/or snow
conditions.

The global impact of our green technology will be to
significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions making
air travel the lowest carbon-footprint means of travel
Delos Aerospace has patented an advanced magnetic braking and ground
maneuvering system for aircraft that was awarded the most innovative
technology in the area of power and propulsion by Aviation Week in 2010. The
new system replaces the current friction based braking system with in-wheel
motor/generators eliminating the need to run the main engines or use of tugs for
ground maneuvers, eliminating fuel burn currently required for ground
maneuvering of aircraft wherein our innovative green technology makes it
possible for aircraft to conduct ground movement with greater efficiency,
economy, maneuverability, and safety with input from the flight deck under the
pilots command and control with more effective braking and ground
maneuvering of aircraft.

During landing events the landing gear tires are pre-spun to match the relative
ground speed thus starting out in a rolling friction state eliminating the sliding
friction tire wear that generates particulate pollution, which is ingested by the
following aircraft affecting the clean performance of the engines and eliminates
the depositing of reverted rubber onto the runway which reduces the available
friction coefficient when braking in rainy weather conditions.

motor/generator is designed to be

our patented green technology that will
reduce aircraft burn by up to 28% by
implementing a safer and more
effective magnetic braking and ground
maneuvering system replacing the out
dated friction based braking systems
currently in use. Our magnetic braking and ground

Implementing our green technology within aircraft can result in
significant cost savings of up to 3.8 to 4.2 million USD per year per an
aircraft by eliminating fuel burn for ground maneuvering thus
contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that
will reduce the impact of Airline travel on global warming making the
Aviation Industry the lowest carbon footprint means of travel.

Delos’s green technology will have the fastest ROI than any other green
technology implementation within an aircraft with an estimated ROI of
12 to 14 months

Foreign Object Damage (FOD). Ingestion of foreign debris is significantly

reduced as the main engines can operate at very low idle wherein there is
the elimination of the need to generate breakaway thrust that can result in
heavy sand inhalation thus significantly increasing the time before for Main
Engine Overhaul.

MRO cost savings. By eliminating the replacement of worn friction based

brakes (heat stack) the MRO cost structures for Airlines and Cargo carriers is
significantly reduced by up to 95% of the current cost with significant
reductions in main engine MRO cost due to less time on engines, reduced
cycle times combined with reduced FOD incidence rate.

Aircraft Re-design. Aircraft can be re-designed around the technology to

gain greater benefit wherein the wheel half’s can now be constructed of
composite materials due to the elimination of the temperatures generated
when friction based brakes are used to convert the kinetic energy of the
airframe into waste heat. Also the impulse applied to the main landing gear
is reduced significantly by wheel pre-spin thus allowing for reduced landing
gear wall thicknesses thus reducing weight increasing overall aircraft
efficiency.

Cleaner Air means cleaner water. Our green technology eliminates the
negative environmental impact that the manufacturing process of friction
based braking materials has on the environment due to the time consuming
(30 to 60 days) and energy intensive process in manufacturing carbon-carbon
matrix friction disk materials thus further decreasing the carbon-footprint of
the Aviation Industry.
