Intended audience
This document is intended for system administrators, Hitachi
representatives, and Authorized Service Providers who are involved in
installing, configuring, and operating the storage system.
This document assumes the following:
• The user has a background in data processing and understands storage
systems and their basic functions.
• The user has a background in data processing and understands
Microsoft Windows and their basic functions.
• The user has a background in data processing and understands Web
browsers and their basic functions.

This document applies to Hitachi Unified Storage firmware version 0915/B
or later and to HSNM2 version 21.50 or later.

Convention Description
Bold Indicates text on a window, other than the window title, including

Prepare the site
Definition of terms
Following are definitions of the terms used in the installation and planning
checklist.
• Data center—The room at the customer site in which the storage
systems are installed.
• Equipment—The hardware.
• Location—The specific location in the data center where the storage
system is be installed.

NOTE: If the storage system arrives in cold weather, do not unpack it until
it has been allowed to reach room temperature, approximately one to two
hours. Immediately exposing the system to warm temperature can cause
condensation to occur, which could damage electronic circuits.
1. Inspect the shipment for signs of damage. If you see damage, contact
the shipper.
2. Perform one of the following:
a. Cut away the plastic wrapping from the rack.
b. Loosen the band around the cardboard carton, and then open it.
3. Compare the items in the shipment to the packing list. If an item is
missing or damaged, contact the shipper.
4. Remove any packing materials, accessory kits, disks, and envelopes.
5. Keep all packing materials and cartons in case you need to transport or
ship the storage system.

Network cables
NOTE: The storage system does not power on when the power cables are
connected. Power on occurs when you press the main switch.
NOTE: Drive Boxes power on when you attach the power cables to
the Drive Box power socket.
e. Click the Options tab, and then select the appropriate host operating
system on the Platform drop-down list.
f. Select the appropriate middleware on the Middleware drop-down
list.
g. Click OK, and then click Close.
8. Select platform-specific settings for iSCSI targets:
a. Click iSCSI Targets in the Groups area.
b. Check the appropriate iSCSI target on the iSCSI Targets tab.
c. Click Edit Target.
The Edit iSCSI Target page appears.
d. Click the Options tab, and then select the appropriate host operating
system on the Platform drop-down list.
e. Select the appropriate middleware on the Middleware drop-down
list.
f. Click OK, and then click Close.
9. Use the Create & Map Volume Wizard to create volumes:
a. Check the appropriate array in the Array Name column.
b. Click Show and Configure Array in the Arrays area.
c. Click Create Volume & Mapping in the Common Array Tasks
area.
The Create & Map Volume Wizard appears.
You can perform the following additional tasks based on your storage
requirements.
• Create volumes.
• Enable license keys for any storage features that require them.
• Create, edit, initialize, delete, and filter targets.
• Back up volumes to prevent data loss.
• Perform local replication tasks like creation, edit, split, resync, restore,
and deletion.
For more information about storage tasks, refer to the Hitachi Storage
Navigator 2 online help.
