Application for MAXIS What’s Next Scholarship

Dear Sir,

With regards to the above matter, I am submitting this application to further my undergraduate
education in environmental studies. My university of choice is Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang
as it is one of the leading universities in the field of environmental sciences and is the only local
university which has been accorded the man-date to implement APEX (Accelerated Programme
for Excellence).

2. First and foremost, I obtained A+ in my Physics and Chemistry papers in SPM 2017. For two
years in a row, I had been entrusted by my teachers to take up the role of a ‘Young Mentor’ for
Physics, in which I mentored ten peers who were struggling with the subject. Realizing my passion
and knowledge in Science, I became actively involved in many national and international Science
competitions in high school. My biggest achievement was winning an award for creative
management for recycling plastic water bottles during The National Petrosains Innovative Young
Inventors, organised by PetroSains in September 2017.

3. In terms of skills and experience, I have spent the last two years after school volunteering in
a waste management facility in the city and have gained a lot of experience in the field. Besides, I
have also worked part-time in a recycling center for three months while waiting for my SPM result,
knowing that it has been my long-time dream to work in the field of environmental sustainability.

4. In addition, I am proficient in spoken and written English, Bahasa Melayu and Mandarin. I
believe this is an advantage as I am aware that the School of Environmental Science in USM often
engages in exchange programmes with prestigious universities overseas including USA, Canada
and China. Furthermore, I am also a risk taker who is ready to face challenges ahead especially in
finding out innovative ways for the sustainability of the environment.

5. Finally, my ultimate goal is to leave an impact on many environmental issues such as solar
power, wind power as well as waste management. If I am fortunate enough to receive this
scholarship, I will finish my degree to qualify for a job in Maxis, a vibrant and futuristic company
that I believe share the same goal of promoting sustainability in their business ethic.

INSTRUCTIONS (GROUP TASK)

1. Form a group of 5 people. Each person in the group will be assigned to one of the points given. Elaborate

the particular point in the most interesting way.

2. All 5 group members will work together in writing the introduction, two suggestions as well as closing.

3. Once completed, combine all the points and paste the written paragraphs on a piece of A3 paper. The use

of pencils is not allowed.

4. For the second part of the task, each group is required to shoot a 2-3 minute video of the team members

reading the letter of complaint.

5. WAIT, THERE’S A CATCH! You must read the letter according to the EMOTION allocated to your group

(SARCASTIC / SURPRISED / DISAPPOINTED / INDIFFERENT / ANGRY).

6. The most entertaining video(s), read in the most accurate intonation and facial expressions will be uploaded

on Youtube😊
