Abstract

This paper analyzes the purpose and requirements of the Praxis Core Exam while

providing details of my studying preparations, Praxis Prep Exam results, and future preparations

for the Praxis Core Exam. This paper allows me to evaluate my current skills while also allowing

me to distinguish the areas in which I need improvement. In doing so, I hope to strengthen my

study preparations in order to perform to the best of my abilities and knowledge for the Praxis

Core Exam.
Running Head: PRAXIS CORE EXAM ANALYSIS 3

In order to be admitted to one’s selected college of education in continuation of his or her

Bachelor’s degree in Education, one must take and pass the Praxis Core Academic Skills for

Educators Exam. The Praxis Core Exam is a Nevada Education and Early Childhood Education

program requirement; successfully passing the Praxis Core Exam demonstrates the student’s

competency and understanding of core knowledge in reading, writing, and mathematics. In order

to successfully pass the Praxis Core Exam, one must score above the following in each subject:

Core Academic Skills for Educators: Reading 156, Core Academic Skills for Educators: Writing

162, Core Academic Skills for Educators: Mathematics 150. In doing so, a student will

exemplify his or her ability to understand and perform tasks that require basic core knowledge.

In preparation for taking the Praxis Prep Exam, I used resources from the ETS Praxis

website for reading, writing, and mathematics. This website provides numerous insights as to

what to expect from each test, from content to test structure. In my preparations for each subject,

I took one to two days to study the content and complete the sample questions provided through

the ETS website. After completing the sample questions and reviewing the correct answers I was

able to evaluate the areas in which I struggled and needed further improvement. This allowed me

to focus in on the content I was the least familiar with. For further preparation for the math

section of the Praxis Prep Exam, I used resources from the Khan Academy website. Through this

resource, I watched videos and actively partook in sample questions in order to practice and

relearn the content with which I struggled the most. I allowed myself four days in between my

work schedule to study for the exams. On the fourth day, I felt confident and eager to take my

exams.
Running Head: PRAXIS CORE EXAM ANALYSIS 4

Overall, my results for the Praxis Prep Exam were above satisfactory resulting in a

passing grade for each of the exams. My results were as follows: Reading 91%, Writing 90%,

and Math 87%. This means that for the official Praxis Core Exam I would most likely pass in the

Reading and Writing sections and likely pass in the Math section. I feel that these results are due

to the studying and preparation I had put in prior to me taking the Praxis Prep Exam. Had I not

practiced and reviewed the content and resources provided, I do not feel that I would have scored

as high as I did.

That being said, I strongly feel that I should continue studying and further prepare for the

official Praxis Core Exam. Therefor, I will continue to study and use provided Praxis Prep

resources in order to guarantee my success for the exam. I will also examine the areas in the

reading, writing, and math sections in which I didn’t perform as strongly. In further preparation,

I will time myself on practice questions so that I will be most prepared for the limits of the

official testing center. Upon taking the Praxis Core Exam, I will also take time off of work so

that I can be more devoted to studying and mentally preparing myself for the exam. In doing so, I

hope to maximize my efforts and score higher on the official exam.
