Strength Finders
LFS 496 Career Development Internship

If students have taken LFS 250 and/or LFS 450, they may have encountered this personal assessment
before.

StrengthsFinder is a tool that helps students to identify natural talents and strengths that they have. Knowing
your personal characteristics, attributes, preferences, talents and values provides both foundation and lens to
interpret your experiences, make the most of your internship, and eventually plan for your future.

In preparation for this experience, you are asked to complete the Strengths Finder online assessment, meet
with the Career Services Advisor, and report back to LFS 496’s instructor by the assignment deadline. Please
follow the instructions below to take the Clifton Strengths assessment and discover your strengths.
1. Register by visiting https://www.gallupstrengthscenter.com/Register/en-US/Index
a. This information is stored by Gallup on servers located outside Canada. As a result, it is not
subject to Canadian privacy laws and standards. You can use an alternate or throw away
email/first name/last name if this a concern.
2. Copy and paste the access code into the available field, and then click Continue.
a. Please note this code is only good for the number of uses purchased – sharing this code with
others will take away the opportunity from another member of your group.
3. Follow the onscreen instructions to create a Gallup Strengths Center account.
4. Once registered, you will be able to take the Clifton Strengths assessment. Please give yourself 45
minutes of uninterrupted time to complete it.
a. Review your results Review your results in the “Strengths Insight Guide” found on the right-
hand menu. You can sign in repeatedly after completing the assessment and access the
reports.
5. After completing the assessment, you can download a copy of the StrengthsFinder 2.0 e-book, which
will help you understand the Clifton Strengths assessment and the 34 themes. To download the e-
book, sign in to your account and click Download My E-Book on your dashboard.
6. Please print, read, and bring your Strengths Insight Guide to the session with the Career Services
Advisor. Sessions are 60 minutes long and bookings can be made online at students.ubc.ca/career or
by phone (604-822-4011).
7. Once you have met with the Career Services Advisor, send the LFS 496 instructor a 300 words (max)
reflection on what you learned about your strengths in relate to your future career path.
8. If you have already taken the assessment, but not in the last 9+ months, please re-take the
assessment using the code provided. Simply login with your previous email/password combination
and use the code in this email to take the assessment again. It may be worthwhile to note your top 5
strengths from the previous date and compare them with the new results.
