The number of people working online from home has grown in some countries. Working
from home becoming a new trend in this world as the technology improved. Live of
humans globally changed forever by the internet.Besides connecting people all over the
world, internet also changed the way of communication. It also affected the usual way of
regime of work where it is created a new form of employment and it allows the employee
to work from home efficiently.

IDEA
According to the data from Jobs Street Malaysia, stated that a person has the opportunity
of earning almost RM 300 – RM 800 per week as a data entry worker where they are
working online from home whether it is done part time or full time basis. Data also stated
that many Malaysian are involved in online business in part time basis and the keep
growing. But Malaysian are far left-out from the Americans as a new article been written
by Kenneth Rapoza in Forbes magazine that 1 in 5 Americans are working online from
home and the numbers are increasing over 60% (Forbes, Feb 2013).
Social media is one of the medium that can show clearly that working online from home
becoming a new trend in Malaysia. Almost everyone in Malaysia have their circle of
friendswho works online from home weather it is done part time or full time. We also
have come across to like some online business pages in Facebook or even downloading
shopping apps in our smart phones and purchasing through online.
There are many advantages and disadvantages of working online from home. Firstly, the
advantages of working online from home is physical travel is not needed. Working online
from home does not need to travel physically. Nowadays, many people are travelling far
to their work place. Recent research shows that people who travel far had a shorter life-
span than who does not. Especially most teachers are travelling in daily or weekly basis
from home to school are higher and the number keep getting bigger. I have a co-worker
where she travels about 120km each day and spent almost about RM 600 on toll fee and
fuel. Hence, working online from home helps us to save money on fuel and avoid wasting
our precious time.
Besides, working online from home also keep us save from road accident. Many
accidents occur during the time of going to work or returning from work. Working online

from home, does not need us to travel to our work place. Indirectly it can cut down the
number of road accidently in Malaysia.

Other than that, it also can reduce the traffic during the peak hours. Spending almost one
to two hours stuck in traffic is already become a norm for people who live in Kuala
Lumpur. According to the Forbes Magazine, people in Nationwide spend 4.2 billion
hours driving in traffic every year which cut productivity in half in of most company in
United State and endanger the environment as the amount of carbon dioxide release
increases. As the physical travel not needed in working online from home, it can reduces
the traffic and the save the environment.
Working online from home also creates a stress free working environment. Many
Malaysian suffers from stress and other related diseases in young age due the work stress.
Working online from home definitely eliminates the stress factors as we able to redesign
our workload to our life style and time. Besides, working online from home avoids any
commotions and dramas that occur among the co-workers. We are not going face
problem such as bias promotion ladder or working in an ineffective team or bias
leadership. You can create a positive working environment by working online from home.
Next, we also can have balanced between career and personal life. Working online
from home ensures us to spend quality time with our family members as we able to create
a flexible working schedule. Spending quality time with family members able to avoid
many problems that can cause divorce among married couple. Tight working schedule
between married couples is the most common factors that lead to marriage failure and
divorce. Working online from home can create a balanced life between career and
personal life.
The disadvantages of working online from home are people gets lonely. The
people working from home had a very limited social interaction compared to those works
in company. People who work in company have bond and sharing experience with one
another. Working from home gets extremely lonely especially to the people who need
social interaction in the entire day.
Next, distraction is the most common disadvantages of working online from
home. It is reported that 60% of family members especially children demanding attention

was the main distraction while working from home. Children seeking attention while
parent working from home will cause lack of concentration while doing the work. The
noise from the neighbourhood also caused distraction while working from home
especially during a business phone call. Working from home can cause distraction.
The third disadvantages are health care where we need to pay for our own health
care cost. When we all work under a company, we are offered health or dental insurance
for free where the company pay for our health care. When we decided to work from
home, we need to use own pocket money for our health care. It is a big lost when we
work online from home.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, working online from home has its own advantages and
disadvantages. We all need to consider about the advantages and disadvantages before
making the decision and we need to take responsibility on the path that we choose.
