General Education (GE) Subject Information 2010-11

Who are required to take GE subjects?

• If you are a Full-time UGC-funded degree student, you are required to pass two 2-credit GE subjects
from two different categories (one from "China Studies" and one from "Broadening").
• If you are a Full-time UGC-funded sub-degree student, you are required to pass one 2-credit GE
subject from the category of "China Studies".
• If you are a Full-time UGC-funded/self-financed articulation Bachelor’s degree student admitted
in 2008-09 and after, you are required to take one two-credit GE subject. Whether the GE subject
would be a "Broadening" or "China Studies" GE subject will be subject to the decision of the
programme offering department with reference to the background of students concerned.
• If you are a Full-time Self-financed/Part-time programmes student and are required to take GE
subjects to fulfill graduation requirement, please contact programme offering department for details.

Which semester can you take a GE subject?

You can take GE subjects in any semesters during your study unless otherwise specified by your
department/definitive programme document.

Where can you find the GE subject Information?

Where and how can you select a GE subject?

Location for GE subject selection
AS Student Page (http://www.polyu.edu.hk/student) > Subject Registration > General Education Subject
Selection
• You can select a maximum of 10 choices in order of priority into the system. You are recommended to
select more subject components to increase your chances of alloting a GE subject.
• If there are more than 1 section for each component e.g. TUT001 and TUT002, you may select
TUT001 and TUT002 as 2 choices if you wish.
• You need to ensure that the timetable of your chosen GE subjects does not clash with the timetable
of your registered discipline-based subjects. Any GE subjects with time-clash will be skipped from the
iteration process. However, time-clash among your selected GE subject components is allowed since
only 1 GE subject will be allotted to you, if successful.
• You can have unlimited access to the facility during the GE subject selection period.
• A computer iteration will be conducted after the GE subject selection period.

Where can you be informed of the result of your GE subject selection exercise?
