Activity # 2
PROPERTIES OF SOLUTION

I. Objectives:

At the end of the activity the students should be able to:

1. Compare the evidence gathered with the prediction you made;

2. Describe the properties of solutions based on the observation.

II. Materials:
- 6 cups water
- 6 pcs. Spoon
- Filter paper/katsa
- 2 tablespoon each of the following:
o Sugar, salt, mongo seeds, powdered juice, cooking oil, vinegar
- 12 clear bottles or cup
- Measuring cup
- Measuring sppon
- Funnel

III. Procedure

1. Predict which among the given samples will dissolve in water. Write your prediction in
column 2 of the table 1.
2. Put one cup of water in each of the cup
3. Add half teaspoon of each of the 6 samples. Use the teaspoon to dissolve as much of
each sample as possible.

Guide Questions:

Q1. Describe the mixture that resulted after the mixture. Write your answer in column 3

Q2. How many phases do you observed? Write your answer in column 4.

Q3. Identify the solute in each of the mixture. Enumerate your answer below.

4. Filter the mixture with filter paper or katsa. Use the funnel to facilitate the filtration.
Q4. In which mixture you were able to separate the components (solute and solvent) by
filtration? Write your observation in column 5 in your table.

Q5. Which of the samples are solutions? Write your answer in column 6.
