Balbalan, is situated in a remote

rugged mountainous terrains in
the Province of Kalinga,
Philippines. It is the home of 7
indigenous tribes who occupied
the place since time immemorial
practicing a unique cultural
tradition that is distinctive from the
rest of the Filipinos.
While majority of them are now
Catholics and some are
assimilated to other non-catholic
christian denominations, these
tribes were only converted to such
religions in the 1930s.
While Balbalan is becoming one of
the fast developing municipalities
in Kalinga through development
interventions by the Philippine
Government, the customary
practices of the tribes living in this
place have been preserved with
little modifications to cope up
themselves with the changing
time.
This channel focuses more on
how these indigenous tribes
respond to the challenges in their
assimilation to the mainstream of
Filipino society through the
introduction of various
development programs to their
indigenous way of life.
