For Germany’s medical tourism there are approximately 100.

000 inbound tourists and

300.000 outbound (Kunhard, 2018), figures that are strengthening the popularity of the
services. At a European level, Germany is the second most favored destination, behind the
Netherlands (EHCI, 2012). It is known that the industry is developing year by year, therefore
most of the facilities in Germany provide treatments related to medical tourism for
internationals (BMWi, 2017).

Between 2000 and 2010, the number of Arab patients from the UAE alone increased
considerably, more exactly by an outstanding 417%, while for the medical tourists from the
overall Gulf States until 2010 was of 376% (Kunhardt, 2018). Bavaria is one of the region
that also faced a growth in their inbound patients. The top three states that are often choosing
Bavaria as their medical destination are (Destasis, 2012): Austria, with more than 4.000
patients (23,6%), followed by Russia, Ukraine and Georgia, with 1.967 patients (11,3%) and
the Arab states, more specifically Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman with 1.540
individuals (8,8%)

The focus on inbound patients also rose, and for this reason 21% of the German medical
centers have implemented their websites both in German and English language and 9% in
other languages (BMWi, 2017).

Medical tourism has great importance for the progress of a country, therefore promoting this
industry should be taken into consideration. First of all, hospitals and clinics may bring
additional incomes in the national economy, thus studies and procedures in curing rare
diseases should be more financed, as well as adding medical devices and products. To attract
more tourists in Germany, treatment costs should be reduced, so they can withstand the
evolution of the Asian market (Kunhard, 2018). - conclusion

In 2015, over one million overnight stays from tourists of the Gulf States in Germany were
counted for the fourth time in a row (BMWi, 2017). The changes in the Arab world since the
spring of 2011 had an impact on the traveling decision of individuals, and in some cases have
generated new traffic flows within Europe, being more concentrated in Germany. Since 2006,
when only 202.000 travelers arrived in Germany, the rates increased severely, in 2015 being
around 698.000 arrivals. The number of nights spend in Germany by the Arabs also increased
strongly from 2006 (666.000 stays) until 2015 (219.200.000), thus realizing a growth of
229% (BMWi, 2017).
