PART I. COURSE DESCRIPTION

RATIONALE:
Information Technology helps students understand technical concepts underlying current and future developments in
information technology. There will be a special emphasis on networks and distributed computing. Students will also gain some hands-
on exposure to powerful, high-level tools for making computers do amazing things, without the need for conventional programming
languages. Elementary web page design will also be introduced.
OBJECTIVES:
To learn the relevant terminology and underlying concepts of today's technology. To be able to use the tools and information
available on the Internet to gather ideas and facts, and to organize and format information gathered both on and off the net in a
professional manner. To consider societal impact and implications of technology.
OUTCOMES:
Upon completion of the course, students will better understand the appropriate application of technology to problem
solving and have an increased ability to learn and explore new technologies with confidence and the student will display an expanded
knowledge of electronic data processing and its implications. Each student should be able to identify the parts of the computer and
its uses from a theoretical standpoint. A knowledge of area should allow each student to evaluate his own potential in the field.
